1 Re: Tree Swap Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by VeniceIsSinking on: April 25, 2009 07:16:35 PM
I received last week from andwedanced!
I'm super sorry I haven't gotten pictures up until now but...
drum roll please

CHECK ALL THIS OUT!

1. A lovely canvas bag with stenciling. There's a recycle sign on the other side!

2. A lace headband with a sweet flower on the top

3. An AWESOME pillowcase made from an old t-shirt. Up-cycled! it's soft and beautful

4. A tree-bark-looking mail holder

5. Beautiful handmade jewelry. The one on the ribbon is made from recycled beads, the green pendant is on a vintage chain and is one of my favorite items. I put it on right away. The white leaf pendant is made from shell, and is all seed beads and extra long. I gasped when I opened it. The bracelts are so so lovely!

6. My Big Item! It's a WICKED green stenciled shirt. LOOK AT THAT COLOR! It matches the inside color on my glasses which it pretty awesome. Such a cute little tree! it's folded over because there are roots/ground stenciled on the back too! It's wrinkly because I wore it to work the next day and got lots of compliments!

7. My favorite item: A collaged journal. It really means a lot to me. We both bonded over being journalists and I had mentioned that it had been quite awhile since I've really written anything. She wrote a lovely note to accompany this that said she wanted me to feel inspired to write again. It is lovely. I taped the note on the inside cover.

8. Lovely leaf candles! It's hard to see but there are two colors.

9. Hand painted wooden boxes!

10. Warm and fuzzy socks!

I FORGOT! There was also a copy of the magazine she is the managing editor of! The reason it wasn't with all this other stuff is because it is my purse being carted to and from work. It is amazing!

Thank you so so so much andwedanced! You are so awesome!

2 Re: (Old Fashioned) Random Swap 2009 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by VeniceIsSinking on: February 11, 2009 07:23:56 PM
AsphaltQueen sent me SO MUCH STUFF! I couldn't believe the size of the box. I would have taken a photo of it before it was all unwrapped, but my roomate and I were too anxious (at 10:30 am) to open it that I didn't bother.
Prepare yourself for a million photos.

LOOK AT THIS HAUL!

I said that I'd really like to learn how to knit. She put together an amazing learn-to-knit kit with yarn, patterns, a book, and box with all the things I need!

14 skeins of yarn!!! The white stuff is so soft and lovely. I rubbed it on my roomates face to prove this too her.

The book and binder of patterns! She even purchased the pattern for knit boots I had on my Wist so I could make them myself (hopefully)

Beautiful note cards and a scrabble note to me. I "oooooh!"-ed when I saw the cards. So pretty

BUT THERE'S STILL MORE!

An adorable crocheted octopus! Octopi are my absolute favorite.
The softest (CONVERTABLE!) mittens I have encountered. In love.
and socks with ALPACAS on them! WHAT? THAT'S AWESOME!

And SIX, yes... six! necklaces and 2 rings! Good Lord!

The octopus has watch cogs as suckers. That is awesome.
The tree necklace, though, is my favorite of the lot. I love green.
A jumbly green and blue necklace that is oh so lovely and will be worn a very great deal.
and a sparrow necklace with watch parts that is almost exactly the same as one in my wist. So pretty!

Another sparrow necklace that I absolutely adore.
A watch piece with golden wings!
You can't really make out the rings, but one is a teacup (awww!) and the one with the bird has a watch face as the background.

I was spoiled ROTTEN! and I love love love everything. I can't believe how wonderful everything is and how much work went into this.
AsphaltQueen you are my hero, and you have made everyone sufficiently jealous of your mad swapping skills! Thank you SO MUCH!

3 Metalopoly, the Metalocalypse Board Game!! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by VeniceIsSinking on: November 22, 2008 01:19:43 PM
This is a project I had been thinking about doing for awhile and finally decided to make it for my boyfriend for Christmas.

METALOPOLY

I went out and bought a monopoly game, primer, labels, and card stock. This was the result after plenty of hours at work. The logo on the box was designed in photoshop and then free-handed on the box which was then painted black and varnished several times for the glossy look.
The pieces are replaced with a clock (dethklok), a bat, a skull, a 1" spike, and I kept the horse (thunderhorse) and the money bag from the original game.

Better view of the board

Instead of Community Chest, there is the Band Fund. Cards say things like, "Van broke down, pay $200", or "Happy dethday, birthdayface. Pay dr Rockso"
The chance cards still exist and say things like "Tour bus left without you, take a walk on the boardwalk."

The title deed cards were a hassle. Sorry I don't have a better picture but I cut out tiny pieces of labels and covered over the words "houses" and "hotels." In Metalopoly, instead of renting, buying, and selling houses or hotels, you Rent, Book, and Play Bars and Arenas.

We've been together about a year and a half, and he's always been a fan of metalocalypse. I don't even know if he likes the game monopoly, but I think this will be cool to have around.

5 felt pins/brooches in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by VeniceIsSinking on: October 28, 2008 09:41:59 PM
Felt Cupcakes and Mix Tapes!
these had awesome adhesive pins attached to the back of them. When asked to make more, I was informed that my supply store no longer carried adhesive pins... so i bought a bunch of regular ones and some double sided tape. that was a great time.

This is a progress shot. I think I had almost 40 pins in total... including some zombie ones not pictured.

I sold them at a craft fair on the weekend and the cupcakes were a huge hit!

6 Ultimate Unsolvable Rubix Cube in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by VeniceIsSinking on: October 28, 2008 09:36:22 PM
Not that anyone could solve them anyway... This one's made of felt, and you can't just peel the colors off and stick them back on like I used to when I was a kid.

7 Olli the Octopus in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by VeniceIsSinking on: October 28, 2008 09:34:31 PM
I decided to make a small felt octopus lastnight and let me tell you, I will not be making another one. Olli, although incredibly adorable, took forever to complete.

He also sits very comfortably upon one's head.
Sorry the photos are a bit blurry - the flash was washing out the color

olli!

Thanks!

8 Re: Retro 50's Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by VeniceIsSinking on: February 24, 2008 09:17:51 AM
So I'm a first time swapper and I guess I hadn't thought of taking pictures of the things I sent before I sent them. I will know for next time!
I will at least tell you what I sent

*4 felt coasters in the shape of records with embroidered grooves in them.
*An apron and matching pot holders made from blue fabric with stars and bright green fabric (this was the first time I had ever attempted either of these things so they came out a little wonky but still cute)
*A "Pin-up pin cushion". It had a silohuette of a pin up girl in black felt on a hot pink striped cushion. She had mentioned that she didn't have one and was using a cookie tin lined with magnets.
*A green painted retro mug. I'll try to find the picture I used and I'll post it later.
AND
*some accessories. Some hair pins with black and white striped buttons glued to them and a necklace that I "screen printed". The necklace was my favorite and the only thing I took a picture of because I was so proud.
this has the hair clips too. In this photo they look more like eyeballs, but the buttons were white and silver striped. -> less like eyeballs.
And this is what was painted on the mug.
Sorry that you have to use your imagination for the rest!

I messaged darkdaughter in hopes that she will post some photos of what I sent.

9 2 Video game inspired valentines +others (Pic Obese) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by VeniceIsSinking on: February 08, 2008 07:34:59 PM
Here are some valentines I just made.
A guitar hero one for the man (crazy on you is our song)
The weird blue/yellow coloring is just from my camera
The inside says "100 %, five stars, on expert!"

A Katamari one for my roomate
inside says "you've rolled up my heart"

And these are some ones I made last year using photos from a stock photography catalogue

Back: We're out to steal hearts

Back: For your love!

Back: I just happened to find you passed out by the toilet

Back: You said you just got new contacts

Front (it's kind of hard to read): A good friend is like a rare bird
Back: Who sometimes poops on your windshield

Back: But Freud had a better idea

Back: But I wanted to give you my heart

10 Mix-Tape Ipod Cozy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by VeniceIsSinking on: January 02, 2008 09:23:36 PM
The merging of technologies.
This is based on my felt mixtapes that were just softies.
I had just bought myself an ipod and decided that I wanted a cozy for it so I stuck to what I knew (and loved... mixtapes) and voila.

outside:

The white part is adhesive felt - also on the inside. I had to put the white outline on the inside as I ended up cutting the holes too big.

inside:

Since a mixtape is wider than an ipod, the part on the side holds my earphones quite nicely. There is also a velcro closure so the ipod doesn't fall out the bottom.

::Edit:: sorry for huge pictures
