Ok I have a very good friend who is graduating and I'm stumped about what to get her.

She is a engineer major.

She loves coffee.

I thought about a "College Survival Kit'' (ideas?).

Loves reading!

Colors:

Blues, Greens, Neutrals,  Not Orange or Bright Reds

Thanks!

P.S.  I crochet, knit, and needle felt.

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help with the gauge! on: April 15, 2008 04:41:32 PM
Well the pattern is knitted on circs because of the amount of circles but you don't actually knit in the round.  I did knit my swatch on size 8 circs though since that is what I was going to knit the sweater on. Smiley

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help with the gauge! on: April 14, 2008 02:46:59 PM
Ive been knitting for about 2 years and know all of the basics. Since Ill be attending the Knitters Connection in Columbus I figured I better have a knitted piece of clothing to wear. So I went to the LYS and bought Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed Cotton in Sky, the April issue of Knit n Style, and size 8 circs to begin my first sweater the:

Cropped Raglan Cardi

http://www.knitnstyle.com/issues/apr08_gallery.shtml

The gauge for the pattern is 18 sts by 24 rows= 4 in St st with size 8 needles. The gauge for my yarn is 4-5 stitches per inch on size 7-9 needles. I did my gauge swatch after washing and drying my gauge was 16 sts by 24 rows= 4 in St st with size 8 needles. My question is this what will this do to my sweater? Should I invest in size 7 circs or could I make the size down or up to even out the problem?

Thank you for any advice/tips!

6  Ohio / Ohio: Central / Re: Anybody going to the Knitters Convention in Columbus, june 11-14? on: April 10, 2008 08:40:57 PM
Thanks so much for the info!  We've been to Columbus a few times but not recently.  So I was unsure if I was sending the family into a bad area! lol  Do you know of any good (area for the family) antique stores, thrift stores, vintage shops etc.?  I really want to go to these:

Rag-O-Rama http://www.ragorama.com/
Nostalgia http://columbus.citysearch.com/profile/7852299/columbus_oh/nostalgia_vintage_clothing.html
Alantis http://columbus.citysearch.com/profile/7852296/columbus_oh/atlantis_vintage_attire.html

Do you know it?  Oh and I'll be sure to have people bring "ok for the wet" clothes to Easton.  Again Thank YOU!

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Raverly Anyone Know When They Invite? on: April 02, 2008 12:58:03 PM
Ok so I found out about Raverly and CAN'T wait to get on!!!!!!  Cheesy  I think they want to torture me though because last night I checked my waiting list status and it said only 55 people where ahead of me!  Grin  Great right?  Well, I've been checking and it is already 4 o'clock and no invite.  Cry  So does anyone know if they send the invites at a specific time?  Because I'm about to go crazy. lol

Yay someone else is going!!!!!  I'll convo you later.  About hotels the Hampton where the convention had a deal going is completely booked that weekend (I called).   Undecided  Our family is going on our "big" vacation that weekend and I got to plan the whole thing.  Here's what I planned (if you want more details about any of these things just ask) Grin:

1.  Free outdoor concert at Easton Center (a big HUGE outdoor mall).

2.  Rose Festival on Saturday. Free

3.  Butterfly exhibit and gardens at the conservatory.  I think it was $7 dollars for adults/ $5 for kids (If you get a Cosi membership though you get coupons with your purchase)

4.  Sweet Vintage Clothing stores. Free  Wink

5.  Cosi.  This depends on your membership/if you want to see the Imax or special exhibits.

6.  Zoo/Aquarium $12 adults, can't remember kids cost.  But if you have a membership to other zoos/museums you can get a deal (we get in for half price).

7.  Mozart's Cafe

8.  We might hit Polaris too on the way in.   Wink

9.  Santa Maria Tour (a tour of the exact replica of Columbus's Santa Maria in the river) I think $4 adults and $3 for kids.

I'm not going to the Festival you mention it is an African American celebration (not that this is a bad thing just thought I'd let you know in case that didn't interest you).

Oh and we are staying at the Hyatt Regency which is connected to the CC.  It is a bit pricey but not to bad depending on what room you get.  Also you can get breakfast, Cosi, zoo, packs that are pretty nice.   Since most of the things we are doing where cheep we were able to stay at that hotel.   Smiley

I can't wait!

Is anyone going or have you been?
