1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Tofu Swap? on: April 05, 2009 01:15:17 AM
Hey all - I've now completed a few swaps and suddenly today the idea of a Tofu themed swap jumped into my head. I'm a vegetarian and tofu holds a special place in my heart:) I was wondering if anyone else thinks it would be a good idea? I've never organised a swap before but would be willing to try if someone else would be willing to help me out? Smiley
2  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / New Zealand Craft Swap - Baking? on: February 28, 2009 12:08:02 AM
Hey All,

I've noticed a few swaps on the main board for baked items - ie cookie swaps...mmm...I've wanted to join in many of these swaps but clearly I can't as the cookies would need to be sent to the other side of the world.

So I thought I'd send an e-mail out on this notice board and ask are there any kiwi craftsters out there willing to participate in a baking swap? I've never organised a swap before but I would be keep to help someone else organise it?

Let me know if you'd be keen - I think it could be pretty fun!
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Zombie Doll! on: January 05, 2009 12:44:49 PM
Hello All - not sure if this is the right place for my zombie doll or not - she's an alteration rather than something I've made from scratch.

Anyways - I made her some time ago now - back at Halloween for a cake topper. Turns out I didn't use her as a cake topper as I became a little carried away with the cookie tombstones and had no room for my zombie doll! That's ok - my friends liked her anyways.

So - in the spirit of all those make over type shows - here's a before photo:

And here's what some paint and a whole bunch of craft supplies can do:)

4  California / California: Central / Anyone help a crafty tourist in San Fran out? on: September 04, 2008 03:35:14 PM
Hi there San Fran crafty types,

I'm a New Zealander (just like Flight of the Concords - in fact I'm from the same city!) and my partner and I are soon moving to the UK. Via a trip through the US and one of our stops is going to be San Fran which I am SO excited about.

I was just wondering if any of you locals has advince in regards to cool local crafty happening - such as cool craft shops, markets...I would LOVE to do some sort of workshop when I was over there - can you suggest any stores that have workshops? Maybe a beading class or something?

Also one last thing - any suggestions on great places to shop for vintage clothes?

All responses are greatly appreciated!

PS- any suggestions on where to get great vegetarian food also appreciated:)
5  New York / New York: Central / Can anyone help a crafty tourist out? on: September 04, 2008 03:29:48 PM

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Beads made from the pages of an old calender on: June 28, 2008 11:21:20 PM
It was my friend Ange's birthday celebrations last night and for a gift I gave her this necklace!

I made the beads from the pages of an old calender (2007) that I couldn't bear throwing out because I loved the images (strangely enough I had no issues with cutting the images up into little pieces for beads!). I cut the images into strips - then I rolled the strips up with the use of a trusty chopstick and glue stick. Finally I finished the beads off with a touch of nail varnish for protection and strung them on cord.

I got the "recipe" for the project from an issues of craftzine - yah! Craftzine rocks;)
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Chopstick Frame for Chinese Postcard on: June 06, 2008 10:44:34 PM
I recently came home from a trip from China and amongst my purchases was a pack of vintage look Chinese postcards - I knew I wanted to give some of the the postcards a special home.

Just before I left on my trip I had bought Mark Montano's "Big Ass Book of Crafts" which had a project which was a photo frame made of chopsticks.

It seemed like a perfect match - chopsticks & a vintage look Chinese postcard!

Here's the result - by the way it took a LOT of glue!

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Swallow Bustier Top on: February 20, 2008 09:37:55 AM
I bought this bustier top from the Salvation Army Second Hand shop for $4 - there was actually nothing wrong with it but I thought I could personalise it a wee bit.

So I embriodered a swallow and added the heart shaped buttons and the bow.

Tell me what you think:)

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Necklaces made from old badges on: February 11, 2008 01:39:33 PM
So I had waaay to many badges - they are one of those things I seem to acquire quite easily. I had way too many to wear so I figured I may as well make them into something else...hence the badge necklace was born!

10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Donna's Pincushion on: February 05, 2008 11:36:06 AM
I'm not sure if this should be in this catergory or not but hey I got the pattern from the "Softies" book and it is stuffed so it MUST belong here:)

Anyways - I did get the pattern from the Softies book, but when I begun to make the pincushion I was looking for a ruler to measure and cut out the felt and couldn't find it.

My partner insisted that the ruler was "on the craft table somewhere" in fact - it was not anywhere on the craft table and we later found the ruler somewhere else completely (after I had cut out the felt with my own random measurements!).

But I still like the end product - it's for my friend Donna for her birthday - she's a very sophisticated kind of girl. Not a skull earrings and doc martins girl like me:) But she is a very crafty girl also so I hope she likes it!
