51  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Surprise Wreath on: December 16, 2007 05:21:57 PM
I just love this - what a great idea and soooo creative!!

In our home there's me, my dh and our 5 kids who are all boys (yep - I'm very outnumbered!).  So this wreath would be a HUGE hit!

Great job.

Your bag is beautiful!!  I have never understood the price for the Vera Bradley bags.  My sister has one with all of the accessories and as I was looking through her catalog I was astounded at what they cost.  Wait - let me rephrase that - I was astounded by what people pay for her things when they are easy to make.  But I do have to remind myself that not everyone knows how to sew. Poor souls - bless their hearts.   Wink

That's a good idea about the toothbrush.  I'm going to clean out the cut marks and then return it.  Thanks for the help - I really appreciate it.
54  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: gift for my mom? on: December 08, 2007 07:24:12 AM
I'm not very good a hand sewing so it is hard to imagine making a purse without a machine so I'm going with a non-sewing idea!   Wink

I think I'd make her a beaded bracelet.  Since she is stylish, I bet she would love to get a chunky bracelet, or a cute pair of earrings.  And beading jewelry is pretty easy to learn if you don't know how.

Have fun and I'm sure she'll love anything you make her.

I bought it at Wal-mart so they might take it back.  I've been using it a lot and it has tons of cut marks on it.  I don't know if it even should have cut marks though since it is supposed to be self-healing.  Did I just get a bad mat maybe??
56  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Self-healing cutting mat smell on: December 08, 2007 06:53:02 AM
I've had my cutting mat (Fiskar) for about 2 months and the smell is still horrible. My husband says the smell is like a dead animal.  Roll Eyes I don't think it is quite that bad, but it's still pretty nasty. I read online a suggestion for washing it down with dish detergent, but that hasn't helped.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Any solutions on how to get rid of the smell?

Can I just tell you that those are so amazing!  I love the Phoebe bag the best, but really - they are all great.

I wish that I had known how to sew when I was 13 - that is such a great skill to have at your age.  Keep up the beautiful work!!
