11  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Mandarin in Garlic on: April 19, 2016 08:23:01 AM
Yesterday a friend  posted on picture of a garlic bulb with a slice of Mandarin orange in place of one clove. The caption read 'just because you fit, doesn't mean you belong' and it had to be the name of this scrappy trip around  the world quilt.
Half the blocks came from the swap and half were picked by my lads. The one block just doesn't blend. So I figured it's best to highlight it. And hence the name.
12  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / the 'redeemer' quilt on: April 18, 2016 08:34:35 AM
Friday I made a pieced pillow. I did the math. I sketched it out, it looked fine. So I cut and sewed. And it was a total fail. I have no idea why it didn't translate. But it didn't. And no, I'm no being overly critical. It was just bad.

So I was sulking in my sewing room and decided I couldn't go to bed mad at fabric so I decided I needed something quick and get me out of it. I had picked up a few solid charm packs a couple years ago for something and have been scavenging them since. I had some one inch white strips pre cut from another project that didn't need as many as I cut. So I figured I'd smoosh them together.

I manage to get the strips done before bed an wasn't mad at my sewing room. When I got home from work Saturday afternoon, I set up on the deck for the first "spring" day in ontario. Grabbed the beer and finished it.

And I love it. And it told me where it wanted to go live so I even got to be the quilt fairy this weekend. Smiley the recipient was super happy

It's not ripply, it's just not laid out carefully. Wink

This... this is the life.

I've been waiting for this pattern since I saw the quilt along posted. Last night while cruising for Superhero patterns I looked up this one. And Yay!

Printed off last night and selected fabrics, headed to the slothcave about 11 this morning. Smiley had th top done about 4. Went to mom and dads for dinner. Came home basted quilted and bound.

Hung it during the second commercial break of The Walking Dead.

I LOVE THIS MINI!
14  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / shirt quilt on: March 23, 2016 08:22:31 AM
When my kiddo was a wee bot he liked to wear "stripey shirts like daddy wears to work"... I saved them thru the years an made a set of quilts for Christmas. One for my parents and sister. One for hubs mom and aunt.

The bot's birthday was yesterday so I finished the top o had made for him. Two.. three years later.   Now he wears nothing but hoodies and flannels and he has my sense of "style"  Cheesy

16  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / batik and solid. wedding quilt on: March 08, 2016 11:59:36 AM
This one isn't much to look at. Simple.

But the story is a bit fun. Mom was cleaning out her "loom" room and found in plastic bag full of large scraps of this batik. This batik that was made into dresses for the  girls and vests for the guys in our wedding. Almost 17 years ago.

So I made it into a new camp/beach quilt for hubby and I.
17  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / fallen rainbow (qbs8) on: January 12, 2016 04:52:12 PM
This is my first finish of 2016.

I put th blocks together from round 8 of the quilt block swap and sashed them with a thin black sashing. And binding.

I gave this to a friend and coworker who got married this fall. He is from Cuba and the colours remind n so much of his personality
18  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / "Stacked" quilt on: January 12, 2016 04:47:59 PM
In the most current Quilt Block Swap (round 8... keep your eyes open for round nine) I asked for a simple block called "stacked" in white and batik fabrics.

I got it quilted and bound this afternoon on my new fancy machine.

Also. Finish number 2 2016 Wink

20  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / garden fence memory quilts on: December 14, 2015 04:15:03 PM
I do a ton of memory quilts. Especially around this time of year. These are for sisters who lost their dad quite young and fairly recently.

I wasn't  sure how the pattern would lend itself to tshirts. But I like the way the shirt fronts break up. It's a slightly arty version of a tshirt quilt.

And the colour change of the  Fences really changes the look of the quilts
