1222  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Crazy Quilt Book Cover on: June 17, 2008 07:25:56 PM
Thank you so much for the kind words and for the advice. I will be sure to look for that book at my library. I started over twice on my book cover because I couldn't figure out how to get the loose ends in- then I just decided to embroider those ends. It was a lot of fun free handing the buttons and the embroidery.

I love the brain slug and the toast. so cute!
1224  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Crazy Quilt Book Cover on: June 17, 2008 12:32:39 PM
I wanted to share a crazy quilt patchwork book cover that I made for my partner in the Giant Multi-Theme Swap. The book cover is adjustable and has a dark brown corduroy backing. This was my first time trying to make any type of quilt. It was also my first time embroidering- lots of firsts!!!

Anywho... on to the photographic evidence:

Over all shot of the whole book cover

Some detail shots:

So how did I do for my first time? I didn't really know what I was doing, and I did leave some "loose" edges that I had to secure down with embroidery.Any advice you guys could give me on how to avoid that in the future would be greatly appreciated.

I claim meganlorraine for  one or two stenciled t-shirts and some rocks and dollar store finds!

This is 3,0,0 for this round.

I am 27 years old and live in Wisconsin with my husband and our two cats. I love crafts that reflect nature and/or reuse and recycle materials. I also like funky, freaky, weird, cool, unusual craft items. My favorite colors are chocolate brown, blue and green. I am not a big fan of pinks or any thing too girly.

On to the wish list:

Crafted Items
-   Reusable shopping bags- my goal is to eliminate my use of plastic and paper bags when I shop and I am just learning how to sew, so I need help to meet that goal. I like these designs, but I am pretty flexible.

-   Art work for my new house. I have a lot of bare walls that look so sad it makes me want to hug them and tell them its not that I dont love you- its just that I suck at making things pretty enough to hang on you

-   Decorated light switch covers- polymer clay/decoupage/whatever medium you choose

-   Reuseable swifer sweeper covers http://wists.com/UntouchableFace/7871a8215a2a2b5388b901374eba6ed2?offset=40

-   Items made from used magazines such as:

-   Cross stitched items with sarcastic/funny sayings.

-   A jar of mini whimsies

-   Necklace pendants (resin/polymer clay/slide etc)- lots of examples in my wist

-   Crochet hook holder similar to this but in blue or green fabric.

-   Felted Soap

-   Sewing caddy thingy:

-   Anything knitted. I am in awe of anyone who can knit. Ive tried multiple times, but I think I have been crocheting too long and I cant learn new movements ( at least that is what I tell myself every time I try and fail) So if any one wants to make me something knitted, you will be my hero.

-   Hand carved rubber stamp- I love robots, butterflies, mushrooms, gnomes and octopi. But I would also love anything you would like to make for me.

-   Botanical Drawings- especially of native prairie flowers and grasses

-   Headbands, decorated bobby pins: many examples in my wist

-   Embroidered or stenciled t-shirt or hoodie (size xl)

-   Anything from my wist
http://www.wists.com/UntouchableFace

Supplies/Kits
-   Needle Felting kit- Ive always wanted to learn, but I dont know how nor do I have any supplies

-   Fabric (blues, greens, browns, nature inspired, bold Ikea-ish, etc) to make wall art like this http://www.wists.com/8cb615468e4996aa3a833a09229d99f7?q=hoop&offset=0

-   Buttons!!!- new, vintage, or homemade

-   Drop spindle and instructions on how to use it

-   Yarn- especially wool and homespun yarn

-   Heated knife for cutting stencils (used is o.k.)

-   Stencil blanks

-   Old wool sweaters
