201  Re: Fiber Friday Feb 6 in Spinning: Completed Projects by LeapFeetFirst on: February 06, 2009 12:00:30 PM
My first Fiber Friday!

After stalking Fiber Fridays for the past year, I decided that I wanted to give spinning a try. I took a drop spindle class in November at my LYS and I plan on taking a spinning wheel class in a few weeks. I think the fiber bug has bitten me hard Grin

All of these yarns were done on a drop spindle.

My first and second yarns. I love their wonky unevenness!! Unknown fiber and length.

Lemon Grasshopper- spun from a batt I received from Lapoli in a swap. It is a mixture of corriedale, glitz, and icicle. I spun this up for a swap partner.

Swamp Thing- hand dyed mill ends also from Lapoli.

Blue Jewels- Superwash BFL- 164 yards. My first singles! I still can't believe I got all 4 ounces of this roving on my drop spindle.

Thank you all for being such an inspiration and I can't wait to post on many more Fiber Fridays to come!!!

I received my package from Thenutmeg2000 on Monday! I love the yarn she made for me. It is a beautiful mix of blues, browns, purples, and greens

Here is a close up shot that shows the colors better

Thenutmeg2000 also sent some wonderful roving that I can't wait to dye with my new acid dyes

She also made me a beautiful hat- it is a little small but I am going to try to block it to see if I can't get it to fit. I really like the blues- they match my winter coat!

There was also some chocolate and a small tin of Burt's Bees Hand Salve- but they seemed to have walked off Grin

Thank you for being an awesome swap partner Thenutmeg2000!!

Yikes, I can't believe I forgot to post pictures of the thoughtful packages I recieved from MommytheMaid and CamOovas. It's been a hectic, stressful past couple of weeks.

Anyway- here are the pictures...

MommytheMaid made me a cover for my sewing machine. It even has a pocket to store various sewing notions.

and CamOovas made a wonderful piece of felt artwork. It is 8X10 and in my favorite shades of blues and greens.

Here is a close up- I really like how CamOovas matched the thread to the felt- very professional looking!!

Thank you so much ladies, and sorry it took me so long to post pictures

I received a wonderful piece of artwork from morglanc! I love the colors and the trees!! It is 8 1/2 by 11 and is not as crooked as it looks in the picture. I took three pictures and this one was the straightest Cheesy  I am still searching for a perfect frame but as soon as I find one it is going in my craft room! Thank you so much.

I received two wonderful packages from elmpixie and girlosun_9. I apologize for taking so long to post the pictures. I was waiting until I could actually get home before the sun went down, so I would have some natural sunlight for the pictures. But then I realized that is probably not going to happen any time soon.  Grin

Elmpixie sent me a wonderful knitted hop bud for my husband who loves to brew his own beer and has an unnatural love of hops. The knitted hop is more green colored in reality, and it has a lot more detail that doesn't show up in this picture. I am going to give it to my husband next week for Christmas, but I am sure that he will love it as much as I do!

girlosun_9 sent me two reuseable sandwich wraps. I cannot wait to use these! I love the chicken fabric.
Outside Shot:

Inside Shot. I love the Hawaiian print on the inside of the brown polka dotted one!

Thank you so much elmpixie and girlosun_9!!

CamOovas, I am so glad that you liked everything. I think I am going to make a tree skirt for myself that is similar to the one I made for you, it was really hard to part with it Grin

We actually had some sun this weekend, so I was finally able to take pictures and edit them. Now I can show off the wonderful package that CamOovas sent me!!

First up is an awesome onsie that was supposed to be for my nephew, but I think that he has outgrown onsies- so I am going to give it to some friends of ours that just had a baby in October. Either way it is really cool. It is based off a tree on my wist I think.

Tree artwork that is currently hanging on my office wall

A bracelet that is going to go to my mom and some awesome pendants for my sister in law. I am going to have a hard time parting with the pendants, especially the sea glass one.

A beautiful handpainted ornament that I am going to keep for myself Grin

a needle felted snowman ornament

Some needle felted fruit and veggies for my nephew. I had to wrestle these from the jaws of my monster kitties in order to take a picture. I actually found a felted strawberry under my couch yesterday, so I didn't get a picture of it. The level of detail on these are amazing!

And finally, my favorite things- needle felted South Park Characters for my husband. I cannot wait to give these to him- he is going to love them!!! Again, the level of detail on these are amazing!!!

Thank you for being such a wonderful partner CamOovas!!!

fabric scraps ( my favorites are the front two);

and yarn for a Rapunzel scarf! The yarn is so soft a squishy- and there is some handspun yarn included!

Thank you!!!

I received the best package from lapoli earlier this week. She sent me a bunch of great fibers for me to pratice spinning on my drop spindle.

First up is an awesome batt of corriedale, glitz and icicles. I have already started spinning with this and it looks so cool!

Next is some hand painted roving. The colors in this roving are so pretty- it reminds me of a tree.

Lapoli knit me the cutest Christmas sock ornaments. I can't wait to put them on my tree. In the background is some fun multi colored roving

I am very intrigued by the natural wool dryer balls that she made for me- I am going to try them out this weekend- along with the homemade laundry soap

Last but not least is some yummy smelling soaps. I seem to have misplaced my labels, but I believe the purple one in lavender and the other one has apricot seeds in it. Lapoli can you help refresh my memory?

The soaps and the ornaments came in cool stamped muslin bags that I can't wait to reuse!

Thank you for such a thoughtful swap package lapoli!!!
