I received an awesome box from VegasZombie last week (Sorry it's taken me so long to post pictures- spring is finally here in WI and that means my schedule gets super hectic) Anywho enough of that- on to the crafty supply goodness!!!

VegasZombie filled my box chock full of fun papers, awesome bottle caps, broken jewelry and rubber stamps. I can't wait to use everything!! My favorites were the watch parts and the neon paper.

Is anyone else as excited as I am about the new season of Arrested Development on Netflix?? I was thinking that it would be fun to swap with other die hard ( or not so die hard) AD fans as we wait anxiously for May 26th.

I was thinking that this would be a low key swap, maybe only one medium and a couple of small items? What say you all?? Anyone interested?? I would totally be willing to organize if there is interest.

I've added a new mini canvas and some iPhone crossstitch cases to my shop!

I can't seem to stop making mixed media canvases with lots of texture. I tried really hard to stay away from the modeling paste on this canvas, but apparently I just couldn't help my self.

 

So this canvas started out with a mixture of acrylic paints and spray inks. My next step was to bust into our tape stash and cover the canvas with random tape strips.





Next I used some white acrylic paint over the top. The idea was that the spaces would be white, leaving the painted spaces under the tape. However I didn't take two things into consideration with my brilliant plan.

1. Spray inks continue to react even after they've dried.
 I ended up with a pastel green/blue instead of the bright white that I wanted.

2. Electrical tape makes a really bad mask.
 The red tape above was some electrical tape I had handy. It didn't seal correctly, so the white paint seeped under the tape, messing up my clean lines.



A pretty pastel, but not really what I was going for.

So after I pulled the tape off the canvas, I tried to figure out how to salvage this piece of art. I decided to do what I do best- build up layers and layers of texture using modeling paste. I also used Distress re-inkers to draw on the canvas and added some bubble wrap stamping. The final touches were some painted cardboard strips and chipboard letters.





So I guess the moral of my story is that 1. Its really hard to resist the siren call of the texture paste and 2. If you've messed up on a piece of art, more layers of paint and texture will fix that right up

First up- from A2k, an amazing purse and wallet set. I love the fabrics and the design is so functional for me. It's just the right size for all the stuff I carry.


A2K also included some fun extras- a tin and coasters to alter, some lip balm and and an awesome dictionary from the 1920's that I can't wait to use!


Secondly from alteredmommy- two pieces of artwork that have already found a home in my office. The first piece is a 6x6 canvas that has an awesome niche! I love the cool little heart with the nails.


This piece is my favorite! I love all the rusty bits and the matches and the buttons and the red thread.... I could go on and on.

I've decided to start art journaling- mostly because I received an awesome handmade book from sheepBlue and I want to fill it with art. I am also excited to see everyone else's pages and talk art all year round!

I am going to be using the website teag mentioned-  A Year in the Life of a Journal  http://oneyearartjournal.blogspot.com/ as a basis for my journal. Since I am new to this, I thought it would be good to have a little guidance :-). The first promt comes out today!

Details of swap:

The 4x6 Art swap runs like this:  You make ONE piece of art, in your style,  in any medium, how you want.  The only parameters are that you keep it relatively flat, and 4 inches by 6 inches big.   You will have no idea who your partner is, until "Address Time", which will be at the end of the crafting period.  And then you will only know their Address and proper name.  The organizers will do their best to match up partners but do remember that this is essentially a "surprise" swap and no information other than a real name and address will be sent out to you.
