121  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / 'Drink Me' Messenger Bag on: August 04, 2008 07:10:41 PM
My friend asked me to make a bag for her(most likely cause I was broke at the time XD), so this came into being...Much trial and error and plans not going according to...plan. It was just earlier today when I was still convinced that I'd completely screwed it up and that it would look ridiculous. However, after attaching a black strap(opposed to the original purple) and attacking it with fabric paint, I grew quite fond of it. Not sure if I'll go so complex in the future though. Tongue Hopefully she likes it.

123  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Fabric Glue on: July 19, 2008 08:11:45 AM
Thanks for all the good suggestions. I purchases this iron on "stitching" which sounds somewhat like some of the suggestions.

My concern about the fabric glue is that it will give out, and probably at a time your friend does not want it to give out.   Bags tend to carry weight, which you really need secure seams for.  Fabric glue is fine for a quick fix of a hem, basting something in place, costumes that are only worn once, attaching ap

Oh, I know how to sew for the most part. I would be a bit crazy to try to make a bag with only glue keeping it together. The actual structure that will be carrying weight is sewn very thoroughly. I was just referring to stitching that the eye can see, for design purpose. However, as you said, its good to learn, so I'll definately give the stitch outlining a try if the design appears to lack something or just doesnt seem like it will last.

I'm in the process of making my friend a bag. I have a moderately detailed design idea for the outside. I'm no expert with the sewing machine, so I don't want to attempt sewing it on (cause the lines will look chaotic). For those with experience with fabric glue, is it strong enough to keep down a design involving a number of pieces of cloth on a bag? Or if there are any other suggestions.

Those look really badass. But are they really shoes? Look more like socks. Do they actually have soles that wont kill your poor pimped out feetsies? Cool regardless.

Love the colors. Smiley

I might have to try this myself, seeing as I have the urge to make something and am as broke as hell. XD
