11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Discworld Items on: February 04, 2009 07:11:48 PM
I thought I'd show off a couple of things I made for the recent Discworld Swap.

1st is a kitchen towel with the Guild of Seamstresses Crest and Slogan.  I need to work on my stitching some, especially the words but I still like it even if it's not perfect.

Next is a LED ornament made in the likeness of Greebo.  Here it is:

And with the LED eye lit up:
12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Zobie baby ball on: January 18, 2009 12:41:40 PM
I have a friend who is expecting a little boy next month.  They had a couples baby shower today.  I knew most of the cute baby gifts would be more exciting for mom than dad so I wanted to have something the he would especially like.

He's has this thing about zombies and its a bit of a joke with our group of friends that when the zombies do attack we're all heading to his house as he knows all the ways to survive a zombie attack.

All the red, black, and white baby things made me think of zombies so I decided he needed some zombie item.  I came up with the idea of a "zombie hunter training" ball for the baby.  I embroidered the baby zombie, and the "Future Zombie Hunter" on black satin and white flannel.  I found this great black and red skull fabric and also used some red velvet, red grid fleece, white striped terry to make lots of different textures for the baby.  I also added some ribbon taggies.  I finished it off with black felt end caps embroidered with the biohazard symbol.

Dad and Mom both loved it and everyone thought it was hilarious.  Dad says its going in his room though not the babies.

13  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Nuno Felted scarves on: December 11, 2008 04:05:07 PM
I got a great felting kit from the DIY swap recently and wanted to share what I've made.
I can see myself getting addicted to this...it so much fun!

1st attempt....the colors are a bit bright for my tastes but my SIL loves pink and worships Hello Kitty so I'm giving this to her.  It needs a bit of trimming as some of the edges are a bit wonky but I'm pleased for a 1st try.

This was my second attempt....it's red roving from my kit and some gray and black curly Lincoln sheep locks I got from etsy.   I really like this one.   If I can convince myself to part with it'll be a gift for my aunt.

14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Microbe - germ ornaments on: December 06, 2008 06:02:24 PM
I thought I'd share my latest project.  I made a set of these microbe/virus ornaments for a NIH researcher friend for his birthday.  It's a total nerd gift and I had a blast researching actual viruses and bacteria to make.  He loved them and says he'll be the envy of his lab!

Here they are:

flesh eating bacteria (Streptococcus pyogenes)

Dysentery (Shigella dysenteriae)

Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis)

Giardia (Giardia lamblia)
