1  Embroidered Easter Coat in Needlework: Completed Projects by ChrisSews on: May 01, 2013 07:36:44 PM
Here's a project I finished a few weeks ago.

A spring jacket I made for my niece.  Embroidered with bunnies and buttons.

The jacket....

I've been busy making these banner for all the baby showers I've had lately.

I've given away two in the last month and am working on a third.  They're always a big hit.

Then there's the Mini Art Quilt I did for the MAQ swap.  It's a baking/cupcake themed wall hanging.

I've been making lots of things for my sister and the baby she's expecting next month.  She asked to me make a seat the fits a baby swing she picked up used.  And a cover for her bobby-type pillow.  I have several more baby projects in the works so hopefully will have more projects to add soon

PurplePaisly send me this great ocean themed quilt.  I love the way she used the decorative stitches to applique.
All the critters are decked out with beadwork, making the quilt lots of fun.  Thanks so much, PurplePaisly!

I've spent the last couple of weeks sewing a maternity wardrobe for my sister.

I made her:
2 new skirts
1 revamped skort
1 revamped capri pants
3 revamped shirts
3 new shirts

I sort of made a few matching modules...
This green and ivory A-line skirt with a matching green T-shirt and linen tunic.

A brown yoga skirt and coordinating tunic tee and shirt made from an XXL button down shirt.

Capri pants, skort, and t-shirts modded into maternity from regular clothes plus the white shirt made from scratch.

Great necklaces, love the action shots!  Those patches are fun...I have to try making some one day.

I received from atsuko a few days ago...been a busy weekend so I'm just now getting photos posted.

She sent me these great tags for my critters.  The ones they have now are pretty worn and getting hard to read so these new ones are much appreciated.

And some baby bibs.  The fabric on these is too cute.

Here are a few items I made for swap partners.  Monster pouches seem to be popular requests.  I made these frog/monster coin pouches to a couple of boys to carry their lunch money.

And then this monster pouch and a earbud holder for another swap partner.

I received my burp clothes from texscrapper too.  I like the material she choose and the different colored terry on the back.

Fantastic artwork, nicoleburdsall.  And nice organizer, Eclectic Dreamer.

I finally finished some curtains that have been in my to do pile for over a year.  Nothing fancy just simple panels.

And I've been remaking some x-large shirts into maternity tops for my sister.
Here's one...I think the elastic band may be too low...I might try to make it higher but am worried how that would look with the end of the button placard being below the elastic.  Any ideas?

Here's another.  This one I pretty much took a mens 3xl and just used the fabric and recut it to follow a maternity shirt pattern I had.  I think the only seam I kept was the hem on the sleeves.

10  Sewing Machine Needle Case in Completed Projects by ChrisSews on: March 11, 2012 03:17:00 PM
I sew lots of different types of things from clothes to crafts to home dec.  So I need lots of different needles for my machine.  When I change projects I end up having to rummage around in my supplies trying to find the right type and size of needle.

I also like to try and change out the needle often (sharp needles are so much nicer to sew with).  So I switch out the needle on my machine often but then I'm left with what to do with a needle that was used once or twice.  I don't want to put it back in with the new and it still has some life so I don't just want to toss it.  If I put it in a pin cushion then I can never remember later if it was a sharps needle or maybe a ball point and did I use it just for a few seams or is it mostly worn out.  Different manufactures have different colors to code the needle type and so don't have any color...who can remember them all. As for seeing those tiny little numbers to figure out what size it is...almost impossible.

So my solution...a needle case labeled with common type and size machine needles.  I can flip to the right needle type and find the right size needle for a project instantly.  As I use the needle I'll move them across the strip so needles at the center of the book have more use than those on the edges.  I special marker pin is placed in the spot of the needle in the machine so when I remove it later I'll remember where to return it.  Front and back have a few pockets to keep the unusual needles the don't fit in the labeled spots.  The whole case was made from one Moda charm pack plus some felt for the strips, a bit of printable fabric for the labels, and batting.
