Thanks for the tip. I presume therefore that you would just stitch over the 1/4 stich line made when closing the final top and bottom seams? Let me know.

Thanks

I am glad that everyone can use this helpful tutorial.

By the way, your pouches are quite lovely. I love the fabric choices.

Thanks

19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: question about sewing with leather (for a wristlet) on: July 22, 2006 09:09:53 AM
Hi if you are sewing leather on a regular sewing machine you need a size 18 needle. You also need a walking foot with grooves underneath so the leather could move freely when being stitched. In terms of thread you need #69 Nylon Thread-it is strong and durable on the leather. Normal thread could work but it might burst easily. Normal thread, if you take your time, could work on light suede. You also have to adjust your tension and stitch length on the machine-I suggest you practice with a scrap first.

With regards to where you can get leather-it all depends on where you are located. I am in New York so I could tell you about places there. You can also check ebay they have a lot of sellers who sell leather and scraps. Leather is sold by the square foot and prices can vary a lot. Leather is usually expensive.

You can sew that wrislet you just have to know what you are doing since leatherwork involves certain tools, glues and techniques to give it a professional look. You can PM me if you like-I study Accessory Design at FIT in New York and I take handbag construction classes in leather.

Hope this helps.

I love ALL of your stuff, and I really love aqua at the moment.  I see your relocation plans are on hold.  I'm sorry to hear that, but selfishly glad because then I get to see more new stuff from you!   Grin

Where in the world do you get your colored snaps?  I've looked everywhere, including online, but can't find any!  Are they metal or plastic?  They look metal in the pics.

Keep up the good work, and thanks for all the inspiration!

Hi I found the following sites that sell colored snaps. Hope that helps.

http://www.snapsource.com/store/snapcolors.php
This site is good and looks similar to the snaps on the wallet

These are also useful

http://home.att.net/~tjatsdehart/Resin.html

From here onwards these are suppliers and some are international. Yahoo search word "snap suppliers" "colored snap suppliers" The word "supplier" makes a major difference to find what you are looking for.

If you really want to know a list of suppliers in India-this is a great site as well

I also found this site that has some great stuff not only snaps but also additional handbag hardware and velcro etc. The stuff on this site looks great if you are interested

Thanks.
