2  fish vase in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by karen09 on: October 25, 2009 02:25:40 PM
This is a project from my ceramics 1 class i took in the summer but i reglazed it and it just came out of the kiln a couple days ago.

This was made using the slab and coil technique and i tried to make a beautiful blulbous-y shape but it came out really wonky and a friend said, Hey it looks like a fish. so with a needle tool i carved out scales making some smooth and others rough.
This was the first piece i ever glazed so it didnt come out as planned so i redid the glazing and it came out better, not exactly what i had in mind, but im happy. btw this was low-fire

i made alot more pieces but was scared to glaze because i wanted them to be perfect but im learning that everything is trial and error. and sometimes mistakes come out beautiful. like my fish vase, not exactly a beauty but still interesting. Smiley

4  sequin stilleto pumps in Shoes: Completed Projects by karen09 on: October 18, 2009 11:09:46 PM
I had this pair of black pumps that my basset hound Syrup, used as a chew toy, and I never threw them out because i was certain I could fix them some how. Well thanks to some inspiration from katielouise (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=319142.0), I decided to make my own sequin shoes. I have a couple of yards left over but i think thats due to the shape of the shoe. They are by no means perfect, but i think i have bigger problems if someone is looking at my feet that close up.  Tongue

before:
the heels

the tips

after:
again not perfect but i am happy.

and finally, the culprit:
shes so bad, she had to be arrested! Smiley
(old pic)

NO dogs were harmed in the making of these shoes Wink

5  instant dog bed in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by karen09 on: October 05, 2009 06:57:45 PM
my dog waffles, who is really like another child to me,( i know Cesear Milan doesnt condone treating dogs like people Tongue) has been sleeping in the closet for some reason so i decided to make her a new bed. We had this extra basket that was pretty useless to me so i made her a cushion and...voila, instant dog bed!

waffles being sexy!

work it, work it! haha

and Marilyn donating a pillow to Waffles

They are actually very jealous of each other so i was surprised to see Marilyn giving away her cowgirl pillow. Turns out she was trying to trade the pillow for the whole basket bed. She made Waffles get out of the basket and tried lying in it herself.  Roll Eyes Don't worry, we have let her know its strictly for Waffles.

P.s. i know my dog needs a haircut...but i like her poofy and im scared to cut her hair new her eyes.

7  Re: why does my serger hate me! =( in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by karen09 on: September 18, 2009 09:09:06 AM
i took a picture to better illustrate my problem. anyone with a kenmore serger or any serger please come to my rescue. this is my first serger so i dont know if they have all the same threading components. anyway on to the picture...

ok so where i have the purple circle and an arrow is a little hole for the thread to go through as indicated by the yellow line. but....sometimes i will be sewing and it will be going fine, and then all of a sudden it stops serging correctly, the threads are still coming out but its not making the chain. it some how bypasses that little hole yet, it still come out through the top like the orange/red line. how does that happen? it makes me so frustrated. any ideas? does anyone else have this problem?

i think my problem with the needles breaking was, me trying to sew too fast and maybe i was pulling the fabric. idk. it wasnt anything thick. it was just thin cotton broadcloth. thanks for your help!

10  pinch pot palooza!!! in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by karen09 on: August 22, 2009 01:48:25 PM
I just finished my first ceramics class and....I LOVED IT!!! Grin I expected to be working more on the wheel but since it was ceramics I we learned the techniques of handbuilding. I took it during summer session so i made quite a bit of stuff but didnt get to glaze them or master my techniques.

This was the first thing I made which was a pinch pot that we pit fired in what I like to call the poopie fire, cuz we used dry cow manure, that I brought from our ranch. It doesnt stink, the cow pies were dry and didnt smell.
