Such great yarns, everyone!

Catielove: I'm not a big fan of spinning glitter myself, but I love your sparkly yarns!

Antsy: Mmm, your singles look like Merino at it's best...

Calluna: OH WOW!!!

Myself, I've been a busy bee this week.

First we have "Cheesy Hay". It's a combo spin with one ply Shetland, one ply Falkland and one ply organic Merino. 685 yards/ 10.9 oz of 3-ply fingering weight.

Then there's "Rothko", fiber is BFL and I got 228 yards/3.9 oz of 3-ply sport weight.

And last - but definitely not least - "Green Tea", fiber is Polwarth and I got 240 yards/3.5 oz of 3-ply sport weight.

2  Handspun cowl/infinity scarf in Knitting: Completed Projects by nittydread on: June 10, 2011 01:17:05 AM
The yarn is one of my combos spun for the Combo SAL over in the Spunky group on Ravelry. Secret Jam - one ply each of SE Eclectic Jam BFL/silk, SCF Buried Secrets Shetland and SCF Carried Away Polwarth.

The pattern is http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/variance (Ravelry link) and I knit the fingering weight version. It's PERFECT!!!

Jexxican: Glad you found your bobbin part and LOVE that drop spindled yarn!

Inlerah: Beautiful yarn, I've never tried spinning from a batt. That's one of my goals for Tour de Fleece.

Charaxesdistanti: Happy colours, love it!

Sprocketfox: Woot for your first coloured yarn, it looks really nice!

This is what I made this past week:

Wensleydale singles, light fingering. Colourway is called Bruised Ego. First Wensleydale, first singles yarn, LOVE.

This is Kentucky Derby, a fingering/sport Norwegian long wool 2-ply. Oh, beloved long wools.

Spunky Eclectic Fiber Club - Mar '10 - Kentucky Derby - Norwegian Long Wool by nittydread, on Flickr

Huckleberry Train, worsted Falkland 2-ply. The thickest yarn I've ever spun since I learned how to spin thin!

6  2-ply Romney yarn of purple goodness in Spinning: Completed Projects by nittydread on: May 26, 2011 01:28:33 AM
I have a yarn!

Fiber is my April offering of Northbound Knitting's Fiber Club, Potted Pansies on Romney.

I love Romney so much. I haven't spun any for a while, so this was a real treat. I tried to divide the top colourwise to spin a 2-ply from light to dark, but splitting was kinda hard. No matter, the yarn turned out great anyways!
I have a tendency to overply and Romney gets ropey if you do that, so I tried to keep everything nice and loose.

226.1 m/247 yards
111 g/3.9 oz
14 WPI/fingering

Picture overload, cause handspun rocks!

I knit a pair of mitts from my SE Fiber Club - Dec '10 - David's Gift, for my little sister who turns 29 on May 18th. Fiber is superwash Corriedale. I've teased her with the yarn a few times (oh lookie, nice eh? YEAH GIMME!) and little did she know she actually was getting it, HA!
Pattern is Easy Handspun Mitts by verabee on Ravelry. Easy they were, that's for sure and the result is wonderful.

The yarn is a sportweight n-ply, 4 oz/ 115 grams and 275 yards/251 meters. I split the top 5 times lengthwise and spun them one after the other, for a yarn with "sockwidth" striping. It turned out just as I wanted! My first superwash spin.
Loads of yarn to spare, I can probably squeeze out another pair.

9  Fingering 3-ply combo yarn - Retreat, Fat Cat! - pic heavy in Spinning: Completed Projects by nittydread on: May 09, 2011 12:38:14 PM
I've spun another combo yarn, just can't stay away...Smiley

This is "Retreat, Fat Cat!"

7.5 oz/212 g and 759 yards/694 m of 3-ply fingering sock yarn. One ply is Spunky Eclectic Retreat on wool blend, one ply Fatcat Knits Mixed Blessing Club - January on merino and one ply Fatcat Knits Mixed Blessing Club - February on Falkland (the fiber pictures are in that order, from top to bottom and the bobbins in the same order, from left to right). I spun all three tops from beginning to end, no splitting.
I really like how the mostly grey Retreat toned down and made a great background for the other two. The yarn is soft but still sturdy and I think it's gonna make great socks! Oh how I love combo spinning...

10  Handspun Polwarth stockinette socks in Knitting: Completed Projects by nittydread on: May 06, 2011 11:12:28 PM
I knit these socks as a birthday gift for my BFF! She's the girl dressed all in black, wearing her Dr Martens...I thought she needed to spice up her feet a bit!

They're knit on 3,5 mm/US4 bamboo DPN and I loved every inch of them while knitting. The yarn I spun myself, it's a squooshy chainplied sportweight, spun from a Polwarth top dyed by Southern Cross Fibre. The colourway is called "Wide Awake" and looking at them certainly makes ME Wide Awake anyways...Cheesy
