I did this for kid's Christmas presents this year, I used those aluminum star and heart shapes that Reynold's makes. It was a inexpensive gift and the children I gave them to loved them.

I like the second choice you have for the hardware, I think the curved handle contrasts against the sharp corners of the table.

The finish you put on the table makes it so much more "modern"(?) looking, if that makes sense. You took an old piece of furniture from the 70's and made it into something you could buy today. What kind of hardware are you going to put on it?

Anyways, awesome job it looks great. I love refinishing tables and chairs, sanding is soothing to me lol.
