http://www.loopknits.com/2008/10/13/grace-lace-beret-class/

i want to knit this beautiful hat, but do i have to do the chain/crochet cast on? i've never done it, and i really don't even know how to do it

so can i just cast on normally or is it crucial to the pattern?
or...can someone tell me/send me info on how to do this weird cast on??

thanks guys!! xoxox

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / why is my pattern confusing me now? on: October 05, 2008 10:47:28 AM
ok so i've been doing well so far...and the pattern keeps saying K3 (P1. K3) 3 times. P1. K2. Inc 1 st in next st. K6...blah blah" but THEN, in the next line it "blah blah blah...Inc 1 st in each of next st. K8...blah blah"

ok. why does it say "each"Huh is that different? or is it just a typo?

thanks guys!

6  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / help making this dressss! on: April 29, 2008 12:38:02 PM
ok...so i admit...i like watching The Hills
and yesterday, Lauren was wearing a really cute dress that was her own design.

i'm wondering how i could make it because i dont really understand the construction. it's like she's wearing a big skirt over one shoulder, but i'm wondering how when she lifts her arm up, her skirt doesnt come up as well and show off her goodies.
i found another picture of something similar, and thought, maybe she like made a tight dress, then put another layer on top. can someone tell me if i'm right?
thankssss!

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / a little hand-sewing help? on: January 31, 2008 10:46:47 PM
so i've never hand-sewn a garment before. ive done like tacking and small repairs, but not actual construction. usually i'm just chillin with my sewing machine.
i want to make my boyfriend some boxers because his are falling apart. is the whole elastic thing going to be hard to work with? i'm just not sure whether or not i should waste my time if it's going to be too hard to hand-sew.
any advice on hand-sewing would be great. thanks!!
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / help making this empire waist dress on: December 26, 2007 07:29:21 PM
ok so i have no pattern, and i'm just winging this dress, but i need help

ok so i have a piece of patterned linen that i want to attach to the bottom of a tube top (stretchy material) to make like a empire waist/babydoll dress sort of thing for spring/summer

i was thinking about sewing a piece of elastic on the waist, but i dont know how to incorporate that with the two fabrics.
anyways, suggestions would be great
i'm not opposed to adding in a zipper

also, just to add, i wanted the linen to like be bunched or pleated at the empire waist so it creates like a fullness to the skirt

suggestions? hints? thanks!!!!!
