111  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: THE GENERIC BOYFRIEND GIFT THREAD: A How-To! on: November 25, 2007 02:33:17 AM
Can you tell I'm just the girl at the hotel who sits around and waits for a guest to call and ask for something or for something to go wrong all night. BUT IT NEVER DOEESSS!
112  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: THE GENERIC BOYFRIEND GIFT THREAD: A How-To! on: November 25, 2007 02:31:59 AM
Sooo...I have a very boring job doing nights at a hotel, so obviously I'm going to tell you I've just read this entire topic :S

We're both not much for christmas, but our anniversary is December 17th so I guess we're having annivaersaymas celebrations. He's in Toronto and I'm in small-town hicksville and he's coming to visit me for a week during christmas break.

So when I pick him up I'll give him a box of miniatures hinting to gifts to come (this idea somewhere in here..), and I'm thinking a long the lines of something to do each night, so here's what I've got:

-cow-->steak dinner (get 50% at the hotel's fancy schmancy restaurant) this idea taken directly from previous post, thank you

-plastic ice cube--> skating and hot chocolate, and I knit him a scarf

-toy mouse --> indulging him by playing Starcraft or Civ 4 with him for the night

-plastic star wars toy or something --> geeky movie of your choice marathon, because I don't usually watch geeky movies

-wee massage lotion bottle (also from Jaeda! the original poster, found her name!) --> lay around in bed day/massages

-barbie/tiny sock--> anniversarymas stocking presentation! have some ideas going for this but more are always appreciate, so far I'm making him a new necklace (since he wears the last one I made every day. although getting his input was a struggle), some stencilled shirts/boxers, wallet, gloves, and belt because he needs them, stash box

-beer bottle cap--> good ol' times day, long story short, we met during nightly parties over the course of a month, with lots of drinking, so I'm making him an etched shotglass set (with a case that will say "my poor college boy's survival kit" or something) with the chemical structures of things liek caffeine, alcohol, thc, etc etc on them

So...stocking stuffer ideas or alternative miniature associated dates (some of them are a little on the not so much side for me) would be appreciated.

He's a huge geek (rpg, comp games) but also a raver (also got me into the scene), getting into psytrance djing, moved to Toronto for school cause we're both city people. Sometimes picky about clothing but in a weird geeky way. Cooks at a restaurant but is mad he doesn't have money to get good groceries to cook at hime "I want to cook meat!". Lives with 6 roomates. Bought me a kitten for early b-day because I begged him..

Breathes..and done.
113  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help! Started to felt roving.. on: November 23, 2007 10:53:07 PM
ah, okay, I notcied it was slightly refluffable but having no spinning experience wasn't sure if it was still workable from there. Also, a few spinning terms I don't know: staple..no idea, and draft..pulling fluffs out lengthwise to continue on while spinning?

And yeah, usually I would mess with it while wet (impatient me), but I was very tired and went to sleep while it hung up. Funniest thing is the whole reason I made this boo-boo was because I was tired in the first place (I started dying as soon as I got home form work at 7am) but couldn't wait to dye it after it had been in a vinegar soak overnight.

Thanks!
114  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Help! Started to felt roving.. on: November 23, 2007 05:06:38 PM
Ran a search in the fiber arts forums and couldn't find anything. The problem: I dyed 1/4 lb of roving, and then did the one thing I had read NOT to do, take roving from really hot water to really cold water. But the question is...

It's not completely felted, but it's not perfect either...

So, is it salvegable? If I can't spin it I don't know what to do with it.. (Keep in mind this was to be my first spinning project, so I should rephrase, is it salvegable by an experienced spinner?)

Thanks, and if this HAS already been discussed than I'd appreciate a kick in the right direction : )

116  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Im new - My first project on: November 23, 2007 01:25:00 AM
I would wear that in an instant! If only I weren't broke : /  And I can't believe no one's bought it yet!  And funny because I was Etsy browsing and I've already come across your bent ruler cuff thing and decided it was cute. Small world : D

And this sounds nuts but those buttons are 100% my esthetic, but no idea where'd I'd get them here : S Perhaps I shall hit up some educational toy stores. Oh I'm so laaame xD

Any pictures of someone wearing them? Wondering how the pant legs would actually sit while being worn. Very comfy looking, and I'd be very tempted to make ridiculous zebra or bright yellow ones. Not very ninja-like of me though ; )

119  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / glowing/uv reactive cards on: November 22, 2007 02:23:09 AM
If no one else thinks this is papercraft related please let me know and I can (re)move the post. Thanks : )

Can anyone think of a way I could produce glow-in-the-dark or uv reactive business cards? The only thing that I could possibly think of was screenprinting them, but there's a forum for that ; )

I'm guessing if it were even possible to find reactive printer inks/colours that would involve a LOT of experimentation, but maybe with reactive papers?

My only concern is the ability to produce them in quantities.

Cheers,
Susan
