1  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Modern Quilt Ideas?? on: November 30, 2004 10:51:07 AM
Check out this site, it's so cool!!  I've also found that the key to finding different stuff is to use the word "fun" or "crazy" instead of "modern" in your search engine.

2  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Quilting Advice for Beginners on: November 30, 2004 10:47:40 AM
One thing that works for me when I am machine quilting and get to the middle of the quilt is to roll up the side that has to be to the right of your needle.  You can lay the quilt out and do a pretty tight roll on the right side until you just have to feed the "tube" of fabric through that right side of your machine.

Also,  One of the most important items for me when I'm quilting is to have a rotary cutter and a cutting mat.  It's amazing how exact it can be and can really make things look perfect (even though their not).

3  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Super easy sewing to benefit homeless cats and dogs on: August 24, 2004 11:23:56 AM
HI all,

New here and looking for volunteers.  I'm looking for people to sew really simple, tiny catnip pillows for the rescue group that I work for.  The pillows are generally 2" X 2" and stuffed with batting, some catnip and a bell (if possible).  I've been buying remnants from fabric stores for very cheap (sometimes only 10 cents) and I make as many pillows as I can.  My group sells them at a farmer's market in Illinois for $1 each and all money goes to www.helpinganimals.org.

You would have to cover the cost of the materials (very minimal if you are frugal and willing to look for bargains) and I'll supply the FedEx account to get them to us in Illinois.  Each pillow takes about 2 mintues to make (with a sewing machine; of course).

A little about the group:
We are an ALL VOLUNTEER organization; we have NO PAID EMPLOYEES
We rescue cats that are stray or are in danger of becoming stray; we do not take people's pet's to rehome.
We rescue dogs from local shelters that are scheduled for Euthanization (there aren't many stray dogs in our area).
We are an ALL FOSTER HOME group which means that we DO NOT have a shelter.  All pets are in a foster-person's HOME, no cages at all!!

If you are interested in helping out or have any other ideas on how crafting, in any way, can make some money for the animals, please feel free to e-mail me at:
