Hi everyone!

So, on Thursday, my 5 year old neighbour fell off her swingset and broke her leg.  She was not a happy camper.  So as a "Get Well Soon" gift, I used this pattern:

... and attempted crochet!  I'm usually a knitter, and left-handed to boot, but I think I got my crochet hook to work properly .

I only did 4 because I ran out of stuffing.  Otherwise I think I would have gone for a full dozen.  Even after 4, I was beginning to feel the addiction!

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to show an address book I made for my partner's mom.  She loves earthy nature-inspired things... My partner had envisioned something all manly in leather, but I had a different idea, and tons of this "pineapple paper" (the stuff had huge fibre chunks in it) from a glorious sale at the art store.

I've never made a book before so I just kinda winged it and made it up as i went, looking at other books I had.
I designed, and printed the pages, sewed groups of 4 pages up the centre and folded them in half.  I then hand sewed the spines of each group together, and assembled it with the cover.  I gave it to her last week and she was very happy with it.  On with photos!

(the book is very thin... 16 sheets of paper folded in half. this is me binding the groups (folios?) together.  All the pages are double sided, and each page has a tab for the letter section)


(I sewed these little metal rings into the binding to be able to tie everything together in the end. You can also see how the entries for each person are laid out - the other 1/2 of the page has a space for mailing address and cell phone #)

The whole thing is pretty thin, but it holds like 500 entries PLUS room for notes and stuff at the front and back.

Happy Belated Halloween everyone!

So, I asked my S.O. what sort of limits there were in the type-of-costume department this year. He said "Do whatever you want."

I chose to make him Bamm-Bamm from the Flintstones because S.O.'s a gigantic drummer, and I needed something really cheezy

I started by silkscreening my orange fabric - about 2 yards.


I covered one of his old ball caps with the fabric, and made a really goofy pair of shorts. I made a stuffed softie bone and cut a sash of fun fur.  Horrible toenail accident from just moments before accounts for the bandage on his left toe, kind of fitting for his character   Nothing a caramel apple couldn't cure, though.


The only thing I wish I could have found was a shorter white wig. And maybe some contacts.  No photos of me.

Hi!

I created an installation in a gallery space and now one of the pieces lives in my garden.  I made a ribcage - originally it was made so you could wear it on the outside (armholes) haha.   I hammered tons of copper tubing, flattened it and shaped it around the leg of a heavy steel chair (my landlords who lived in the same place LOVED me! Haha!) The spine acts as a really simple hinge, so you can crack it open.  There's a little clasp and lock kinda thing that keeps it closed where the sternum is located.  I built the ribs around the size of my dressform, so they're a little large for me... not that i would be going grocery shopping with this on or anything.

Hi All!

So, I made a series of prints based on Snow White, from grey linoleum, printed on really thin rice paper, about 12" by 15".  Gouged my fingertips a couple times, but it was worth it There are 3 scenes:

1 - Snow White meets the Old Woman (don't mind my finger)



2 - She eats the apple, and falls.



3 - The "prince" (<-- I refer to this figure in quotes because like in most fairy tale interpretations, this figure can be representative of many things to the viewer - not just a "Prince Charming" or "Knight in Shining Armour", etc..)(sorry about the tangent... I fall off the focus train sometimes)



I printed about 10 of each scene, and rearranged them to form different "stories" and handstitched them together with red thread - examples of the rearrangements:

- The original storyline - she meets the Old Woman, eats the apple and falls, and the "prince" awakens her.
- Snow White eats the apple, falls, then eats the apple again
- 3 repeated images of Snow White fallen

I am pretty happy with how everything turned out!!

Before & After...

Ok, so it's been like 4 months since I finished inking up this drum head...  member dip_n_dot asked me if they ended up getting played.  My, they have!   I wanted to post the change after being used ... the original post, followed by recent pics:

Hi everyone!!! First post!!

OK it's time to embark upon a series of creations.  My significant other is a drummer, and I'm visual-arts-inclined.... combine these things and VOILA! I'm inking the heads for his snare drums.  This one is 14" of graphic glory, (complete with pencil lines - oops!!), done with permanent black ink pens.

The other interesting side of this project is that my Drummer is not going to take it easy on these heads, and they're going to get really worn over time.  I think THIS development will be pretty nifty to see.  I just have to make sure I get sufficient photo documentation before they get beaten up.
