11  Christmas party dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by syrlig on: December 10, 2009 04:56:06 AM
So, I never find dresses that I both like and that fit well (does that sound familiar anyone?), so I made one instead.

I didn't use a pattern, I just started with an idea and went with it. It fits me perfectly Cheesy It is in some kind of really heavy satin, which I think drapes perfectly. It has a quite poofy skirt and it did end up a bit shorter than intended.

It took me ages to find the lace. It was also the most expencive thing on the whole dress.I also made a corsett to go underneat since I can't wear a bra with straps with it and I have quite a lot to support.

I just wish I hadnt made it in black since everyone else also wears black dresses. But I love it anyways <3

Everybody has gotten so beautifull packages! Wow.

And today I recived mine from Dulcinea. She is the best partner in the world, I swear!

First there is a needleroll. Look at the crazy colors and cool ribbon! Awesome.

Inside

Oh, what is that on the right side? Its a whole bunsh of stuff, I tell you, cleverly hung by the red cord. There is two sharpies, stich markers, a beautifull beautifull thread cutter, and the coolest earrings ever (ops, I see now that Id taken them out of the blue bag before I took the pic. I just had to try them on at once Cheesy)

Here is a better picture, and one that acctually contains the earrings:

And then shed knit one of my top ting in my queue on ravelry. Ive been drooling over that scarf for a year, but I hate knitting scarfs, and never found the right yarn anyways. And its purple! Purple is both ours fav color. And now I got one! And its the softest, prettiest thing!

And look at the cool fastening! The ring is a bent needle, and even the stick is a dpn! How cool is that. I forgot to take a better pic of the top, its really cool.

And also, I told her that I only drank instat coffee because I didnt have any coffe-making stuff, so she sent me a one-cup coffe brewer. How awesome is that! And she also sent me some coffee (which I had to open and smell at once *aaah*)

Thank you so much! I feel so spoiled and totally love everything! Wow!

My offer consist of two part of a set:

First there is a cabled wrist bag, made in DROPS cotton viscose. The yarn is shiny and pearl gray. It has a black felted handle. It is lined by hand in a light fabric. The bag contains a small surprise Smiley None of the colors in the photos is true, its just plain gray, without blue or yellow in it. If youre curius you can find pic of the color at the official site
(http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visgarn.php?garn=CottonViscose)

(forgive the angle, I was hanging out of the window, trying to get a good shot Cheesy)
Here you can see the lining:

The second part is knittys wisp shawl. It is make of DROPS alpaca, dark gray. I chose alpaca instead of mohair because of warmtharound 130 cm. It is 37 cm wide. It has eyelets around three edges and 4 buttons around the last, so you can wear it any way you like. The two first pic is from when it was a WIP - the edges wasnt properly blocked. Its more even now. The last is a close-up of the four buttons. They are dark purple, and I you could exchange them if you dont like the color.

19  Meet Emmeline, the christmas presant! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by syrlig on: December 08, 2007 07:12:37 AM
I made Emmeline for christmas for a dear friend:

And Im attaching a card saying:

Dear [friend], meet Emmeline.
Her birthday is the 28th of june and every year she gets her mother to make her new hairbows and a big cake in the shape of a penguin (because penguins are the coolest of all animals claims the Cool Girls at School). And every year no one ever shows up and she is given no presents. So Emmeline has to eat her penguin-cake all by her self. But if you points this out to her shell tell you that at least she has her pretty, pink hairbow.

Since the two of you share birthday I give her to you, I know youll give her lots of love.
Love Syrlig
(sorry if the tenses are a bit off, Im translating)

And a pic of the back while she was still a WIP without arms:

Oh and for scale, her head is a little bigger than my fist.

I saw someone creating dolls and attaching a sad history to them a while ago and I loved the idea. I cant remember who or where but all credit goes to them for the little story!

Im quite proud of her. What do you think?

20  What not to do when felting aka a plee for help in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by syrlig on: November 29, 2007 11:37:31 AM
Do -NOT- substitute yarn with something that dosnt remotely match in gauge because "Im going to felt it, itll all even out"
Do -NOT- not pay attention when knitting while watching pushing daisies so one of the mittens turns out 2 inch bigger than the other and then dont unravel it because "Im going to felt it, itll all even out"
Do -NOT- amateurisly embroid something and expect it to be okay because  "Im going to felt it, itll all even out"
Do -NOT- let the colors of aforesaid embroidery be yellow on a black mitten and expect it not to felt into eachother causing a dirty yellow
DO swatch and felt the swatch even if "Im going to felt it, so I can streach it how i want"

What caused this realization?
This:

*sight*
Yes, the colors are acurate. And the mitt is to short, and too wide at the same time. Yes, I am that good. And the thumb is so many kinds of wrong I wont even start.

Now ignoring the horrible batman-image, does anyone have any knitting patterns for felted mittens for a grown man, worked with sock-weight yarn? This is a christmas gift for a friend and I really wanted to give him this, but I cant even find a decent felted glove pattern Sad
