1  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Bento for Dummies? on: May 15, 2008 10:47:23 AM
Hi folks. I don't usually post in the cooking forum, mostly because I've been afraid of screwing up in the kitchen for a long time. However, after a few recent culinary successes, I've decided to get over my fears and dive into cooking, as I enjoy it immensely and I love good food.

One thing I've wanted to try for years is Bento making. I think it's an awesome way to combine creativity with yuminess, and would love to start up.

However, there are SO many accessories, products, recipes, etc. that I have no idea where to start. I've been watching Bento TV, and while it's good for teaching, it's really confusing to know what tools I should invest in, what recipes to try out, what foods to buy, etc.

So, does anyone know of a good Bento Primer around the web? Or does anyone have any advice they could give to a first-time Bento-er?

Thanks in advance! Hopefully I'll be able to make you all proud with my first Bento!
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / A few questions for you business-y folks... on: November 17, 2007 11:25:37 AM
Hi all! I'll try to make this short and sweet, but I really could use some advice on a few things.

I decided to name my shop "Flaming Panda", but my brother said that's too aggressive and people will think that I'm into murdering endangered species (Quite the contrary, panda's are my favorite animal). I thought the name was something that would stick in people's minds. Any feedback on that?

And I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for getting promo materials printed up? I'm a bit lost in this department, honestly.

Oh, and one last thing: What's the best way to organize business figures? Would it be best to do it by hand via a ledger or on the PC?

I've got a million questions, but as I said, I'm trying to make this quick. Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it!
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Crafting Addict err...Enthusiast on: November 15, 2007 05:42:01 AM
Hi all!  Well, I'm not sure what to say, so I'll just mention a bit about myself and what I do. (Note: After the first few paragraphs, I'm just babbling about what I'm up to craft-wise, so you can just ignore it, lol).

My name is Amanda, though most people online all me Mattie (short for Matdredalia) or Manda. I'm a 20 y/o poly-bi artsy-gamer-girl-craft junkie who is trapped in the Arkansas portion of the Ozark Mountains due to ridiculous life circumstances, lol. My life pretty much revolves around gaming, reading, writing, music, crafting, and my family (my two hubbies, my little brother, my mother, and a hyperactive cat from hell).

I'm a crafting enthusiast, having been raised by my mother with the mentality of "why buy something if you can make a better version yourself for less money?"

As such, I've always made little things here and there. Money was tight for a long time, and as such, I created all kinds of ways to keep myself happy.

However, I haven't really done much creatively that I'm proud of, other than some writing and pixel art, much to my distress. There are so many creative endeavors that I would like to get into, and the truth is, it gets overwhelming when I stop to think of all the things I'd like to do.

Thus, I'm currently creating a project list for myself so that I can keep a variety of projects going, without getting burnt out on any one project, but still keep improving my skills along the way. Right now, I'm learning to knit (making several scarves at the moment) and make jewelry (I'm currently learning hemp jewelry making, and I'm going to progress to standard beaded jewelry soon).

However, with Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Years coming up, I think it's the perfect time to start another creative project I've been plotting for quite some time:

Cooking. *shudders*

The one down side is a lack of money and the fact that I currently have to use my mother's kitchen. This is a down side because while my mother is an excellent cook with some amazing recipes in her repertoire, she sticks to tried and true family recipes and doesn't experiment. Personally, I think cooking is an art which means you leave room for personal creativity.

Or maybe I just take food too seriously.

Anyways, that's my life in a nutshell for the most part. () I may post my "List" up here in a few days, once I figure out what I'm going to be doing with it, lol.

Sooo, I'll see you all around the forum!
