I received from Crescentfresh!

What a lovely swap partner - I am enjoying all her crafted items!

So, first up is a group shot:

She sent a reusable shopping bag, a hoop, and a fantastic painting!  The bag is a great brown/ruby corduroy, sturdy and washable and perfect for bringing home the heavy things like all the jars of pickles I love to snack on!   Wink

Now, just look at this wonderful happy colorful hoopla:

I LOVE THIS!!!!  Bird! Colors! Happy! Love love love. I have it in my office and every time a professor stops by with another (last minute) request, they say "Oh! That's wonderful!" and tell me if I ever don't want it any longer, I can give it to them to hang in their office. AS IF. This puppy is MINE MINE MINE!!!!!

And THEN. Then I got a painting.

I am telling you, she got me SPOT ON.  Autumn! Birches! Sunshine! It reminds me of an aspen grove that a friend and I hike to every year in the Yakima River Valley - we try to go multiple times a year in order to see it in all the seasons, and this makes me think of all those happy trips (including spotting a hawk on a nest in the grove one year!). This is getting a cute little frame this weekend, and will also hang in my office (which, while lovely in that it is an office and not a cubicle, consists of four bare icy blue walls - so all this color is so so perfect for brightening it up!).

THANK YOU thank you thank you.  Perfect swap package!  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

2  Re: October 2012 Birthday Swap - Discussion and Gallery in The Swap Gallery by camelama on: November 07, 2012 04:40:25 PM

I'm so sorry for the delay, folks ... these illnesses are kickin' my tushie, I'm still not back at work full time and I fell asleep in the middle of eating a sandwich the other evening. Woke up to find the cat stealing the turkey out from between the bread - she had a look like "if YOU aren't going to bother eating it, I WILL!" LOL

So! I got two lovely packages for my birthday!!!

First off, I got a lovely package from Whysteria - she sent me some great little fingerless mitts and a cat toy for my floofy Phoebe!

Well, I have a photo of the mitts ... but the cat toy was SNATCHED from me the instant I opened the envelope, and Phoebe took it with her to bed and it's in the blankets now! I'll grab a photo tonight - she LURVS her new toy, and I woke up one morning recently to find her sitting on my chest, dangling it in front of my face - "play with me!". The toy was all drooly and quite the startling sight at 5am. LOL

So! My lovely soft comfy gray mitts - just perfect for me! And the lovely card she sent.

I am going to enjoy wearing these when it gets coooooold in my drafty little cabin this winter!!  Thank you SO MUCH, I keep petting the mitts as they are so nice and soft. And Phoebe has deemed your toy worthy of nesting with in the blankets, so that's a big two kitty-thumbs up!  Grin Grin Grin  THANK YOU!!!!!!

Then I got a box from ChevelleZombie, who really spoiled me!

Group shot:

She knitted me a scarf (will see that in another photo) and some nifty little coasters/mugrugs for me for at work (I eat lunch at my desk, I'm surrounded by biological labs ... the desk is the safest place!), and made a traveling tea kit for me!!!

The lovely mug she sent - oh I love the dots, so Mod! It's now my official afternoon tea mug. And it's sitting on the scarf she made, which is already around my neck. My office has been dubbed "The North Pole", it gets so freezing cold in here - so the scarf is a welcome addition!

Now it's Tea Time!

Teas, sweeteners, lemon, mug rugs ... it's wonderful!!

THANK YOU!  I love my birthday package. (You'll notice only one packet of candy is pictured - the rest were hoovered up by me in a fever-induced sugar craving episode! YUM!!!)

Bless you both, and TroubleT, for your patience with me as I struggle back to feeling human again ... I've put myself on a swap moratorium for quite a few months, until I'm back to 100% health and caught back up at work. You two really made my birthday month - I was having quite the pity party for myself, I still haven't seen my parents and had my birthday cake!!! So your packages were VERY welcomed. You made me have an actual birthday!   Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss

Bertrum's off back home and I thought I'd take a few minutes at work to finally photograph the goodies Lulu brought home ... I'm never at home when there's daylight! Always at work... the other night I even slept here. Sigh. Wink I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, though!

So, on to the goodies!

First, Lulu came back with a wardrobe!!!  She is wearing a fantastic black and white furry viking vest. Grin (I forgot her helmet & braids at home, doh!) Then she also has a neon green vest, and a cute little flowery skirt.

Then Megancrafts made me this fantastic Pittsburgh hoop! I LOVE IT. I think I want to start an entire wall of just skyline hoops!!!

And then a felt badge! Megancrafts and I had each other as partners in a felt badge swap, so this made me SO HAPPY. I luuuuurv ketchup, and felt, so ta dah!

Wooo, more! Some great stickers - 3-D tea stickers and these *adorable* little kitty stickers. I never knew I needed miniature cutesy wutesy kitten stickers in my life, but now that I have them, I KNOW I NEED THEM. And I want to put them on everything. Report to the Dean? KITTEN STICKER! Budget status to the Chair? KITTEN STICKER! Supply request to Drug Services? KITTEN STICKER! I'm serious, I truly want to put them on EVERYTHING.

AND she sent me a local treat that I just *adored* from our felt badge swap - but I have no picture because um, I might have consumed it all within 24 hours of receiving. Oops. It was a bag of these great jelly beans called "Perfect Pectin" - my friends HOWLED at the name but loved the jelly beans and now they keep asking me when my "supplier" in Pittsburgh is going to send me more! HEE!

A few favorite photos from the photobook:

The Lolita Girls photos are some of my favorites, I'm fascinated by that dress-up form. Wink

THANK YOU Megan! Lulu had a FANTASTIC time and I just love everything you sent!  YOU ROCK!

So I had to take a trip today to take care of some work stuff, so I took Bertrum along for one last adventure! (I've been stuck at work for weeks, seriously insane schedule - weekends, late nights, etc! But it ended today, first day of the second week of classes for the new school year! YAY! So I finally have time to finish up Bertrum's book and mail him off on Wednesday!)

I call this shot, "Dinosaur in Beret with Sunset".

Where were we? We were on the ferry "Spokane"!

Bertrum is quite happy that he is a guest, not a pet!

"Dinosaur nose with sunset and ferry"

Bertrum said the stacks made him feel like he was on an old-fashioned Cunard ocean liner.

Woah ... look out, it's a long way down! Four or five stories down to the water...

It was cold enough outside that we were the only ones not huddling indoors - WIMPS!

Bertrum made sure he knew where all the safety equipment was.

Though he was concerned that there weren't any dinosaur life preservers on board...

More sunset

Mount Rainier, the Seattle downtown skyline, and the WA state ferry "Puyallup".

It was truly a gorgeous evening, I'm so glad I had Bertrum on this trip.

Bertrum took this photo from the safety of my totebag. He got tired and cold.

So Bertrum is lingering with me for a couple more days due to my insane work schedule.  Why did I never listen to friends who said their home remodels went on FOREVER? This remodel job at work is taking FOREVER! (all three of my labs are being remodeled this summer - let me tell you, I am SO sick and tired of moving text books and syringes!)

When I took a break for a brown bag dinner on Sunday at work, there was a bit of sunlight left, so Lulu and Bertrum joined me for a nibble out in the courtyard. They were entranced by these Canada Geese, who came up from the Montlake Cut (canal joining Lake Union and Lake Washington, my building is just up from the water) to eat the grass. Lulu kept daring Bertrum to go pull a tail feather from one of the geese, but Bertrum was wise and did not tease the geese.

Bertrum is ready to come home, and Lulu is helping him pack up - and she's making sure he takes home lots of fun memories!

Bertrum and I squeezed in one last adventure tonight, as I had a 15 minute break for dinner!

You can't come visit Seattle without going to ... THE FREMONT TROLL!

The Fremont Troll is a statue that was created underneath the Aurora Bridge (Highway 99). Fremont is (well, WAS) a very hippie, free-thinking, artistic type of neighborhood (it's getting yuppified, alas!). More info on the Troll:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fremont_Troll

Bertrum was very polite to the Troll, he didn't even mention that he could see up the Troll Nose...

The Troll is clutching a VW bug:

If you turn around from the Troll, you look down this little street that is under the Aurora Bridge.

And look - they named the street after the Fremont Troll!

Wink  I think Bertrum is part of the reason we've had such lovely summer weather in Seattle - 49 days without rain! Then we got 0.01 inches of rain on Monday morning (just enough to officially break the streak, and then it's been dry again since. SO I can squeeze in a few last minute outings!

Wheeeeeeeeee! We had a great day out on Saturday, Bertrum and I and my pal Mr Cow.

Here are a few teaser pics - the rest are for the photobook or to post later. Wink

Where were we?  Why, we spent the day up on MOUNT RAINIER!

Oh how I love our mountains here. Wink

Bertrum had a great time but is EXHAUSTED now, he did SO MUCH and saw so many new and interesting things!!!

Bertrum and I did a quick little visit this evening after work. We headed down to the water, to Shilshoe Marina, to the Leif Erikson statue!

It commemorates the immigration of Nordic people to the area.  http://leiferikson.org/Shilshole.htm

People can have their Nordic ancestor's name engraved on one of these runic stones.

So here's Bertrum with Leif!

Whoops! Well, now we know what Leif wears under his Viking outfit.  Wink

Hee!  We are having supper tonight at a friend's house and Bertrum fell in love with this teensy tiny organic watermelon:

Ves heill from Seattle!  I convinced Bertrum it would be safe to venture out to Viking Days today!  This is a festival at the Nordic Heritage Museum just a couple blocks away. I come from a long line of Swedish-Americans, and we all can recite where we came from in Sweden and who and when, so it tickles me to live so close to the museum Smiley  Lulu and I have been there often, so I thought it only appropriate the Bertrum visit too!

Here's Bertrum conversing with some Vikings:

He very much liked the little guys, and would encounter more Vikings later on.

He had a great time inspecting the Viking Ship replica:

That's the Nordic Spirit: http://www.myballard.com/2009/08/30/new-nordic-spirit-dedicated-after-inaugural-voyage/

And then - oh dear, what's this?

VIKINGS!!!! Bertrum, where are you? What's happening? BERTRUM!

AAaaaaaaaa! He's been captured by a Viking!

Whew! They made friends and no one was hurt.  Grin Grin Grin

We bought lefsa and waffles and drank beer and cider and we had a lovely day walking around looking at the nordic crafts and such. Fun fun!
