Ok, I made my practice ornament! I'm going to make a variety of cats holding holiday items. Present, wreath, candy cane, jinglebells on a ribbon. Though not making black again. UGH, black thread on black felt! Couldn't see a darn thing!  Grin I've got a whole range of colors for different kitties - tiger, white, gray, siamese, brown, orange, stripey, and spotted.

Some of the felt I have for making kitties:

The final version will be much better, these were just practice runs. And the kitties will be a stuffed a bit, to make them more 3D.

I received from Roler!

She sent a great set of magnets, one of which is already under threat of theft by a friend!

Group shot:

Here's a felt ice cream cone (with our extra hot extra dry summer this year, I have gone through SO MUCH ice cream!):

And this cutie-patootie pineapple that is probably going to end up on a friend's refrigerator instead of mine, she lovess it THAT much:

A purchased magnet - a little Onigiri! Yum!

Another purchased magnet, this adorable Octopus that is her city's mascot:

She really spoiled me with this lovely "iced cookie" magnet kitty! LOVE!

And then her last crafted magnet, this lovely stuffed felt kitty who is reading an author we both enjoy - P.G. Wodehouse. Kitty is reading "Jeeves & Wooster", J&W! Hee!

MY FAVORITE. It's not even going on my refrigerator, it's going on the wall next to my reading chair! There's a screw there that it can hang out on.  Grin

Lastly, she included one more itty bitty purchased magnet (we sorta kinda spoiled each other). This hilarious wacky friend-of-a-bear character, a chick that looks like a little round easter candy:

But is really two magnets, so it can sit on a surface and hold something up:

The inside is hilarious. It's almost like an egg inside, am I seeing that right Roler?

Whatever it is, it's cracking me up. It's currently holding a receipt for a return I have to make next week. I won't lose it now!!

THANK YOU Roler! Such a great package. I love the kitty. And the kitty, lol. And the octopus cracks me up every time I walk past it. And my friend thanks you for the pineapple. LOL!

Caitydid hasn't posted yet, but did receive my stuffy, so I thought I'd post photos. She liked kawaii stuff, and one of her three choices was a cat. I happened to have a book of Japanese craft projects, so figured one of those would be kawaii and perfect - and one was a cat!

Kitty has a scarf for winter (Hey, I had a perfect scrap leftover!).

Closeup!

With the craft book

My kitty did not turn out like the ones in the book, but she's close. Since I don't read Japanese, I could only guess at some steps. I chose to make a tuxedo kitty for her.

I had a lot of fun making the kitty, I just wish I had a better idea of what exactly the instructions said. Smiley

YAY! I got my stuffie today!!!!! Caitydid sent me a lovely gal to join my collection.

Here's my lovely little pouty otter with a little present that came with her:

She wanted to see what was in the present so we unwrapped it, and look! Some of her favorite treats.  Grin Yummy!

SO perfect. The starfish has little bumps! The X on the fish! The shell lines! Hee hee.

She is SO CUTE!

Thank you so much for my lovely otter, she is a dear and I'm going to love having her in my house! And as it's been so long since I posted photos here, I can't get them to rotate vertically. LOL

7  Men's suit coat pattern for a stuffie I've made in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions by camelama on: May 20, 2015 08:48:52 PM

So for a project I'm working on, I made a chap out of felt. And made him clothing too, including winter and summer clothing.

But ... I have made four different suit coats and they simply never work out! Has anyone ever made a miniature suit coat? Any pointers to patterns? Or even doll clothing to buy that I could then copy for his specific size?

When I try searching the web for men's suit doll (or various variations of that) I get so much other stuff. I spent hours the other day trying to filter the results and still never found what I needed.

And the projects I've found on Craftster (lovely Sherlock & Whovian fellows in coats) are trench coats, or jackets without a real collar & front lapels that actually fold back flat against the coat, or it's just pictures and no technique mentioned.

Help!

FYI, here's the chappie I'm working on, with one of his failed suits on (I need to make it out of wool felt or wool fabric, for an authentic-ish winter suit coat):

Thanks all!

8  Re: Apron Swap - GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by camelama on: May 11, 2015 04:33:06 PM
Hi! I angel-ed for Frosty in this swap, and am posting my photos as I believe her camera is still AWOL.

Frosty had said a half apron would be nice, and a favorite color was forest green, and she liked vintage/retro.

I was clearing out my parents' house these past few months, and finally found my mother's 1949-1950-ish Singer sewing machine that had been missing for years. I also found the Christmas hostess apron that she made in 1947 - and I decided to copy it, in green, for Frosty, using Mom's machine. Retro style, retro machine!

The apron is a backing of material (it's actually even, on the green one, I only spotted it hanging strange in the photo after I mailed it off! Doh!), with netting on top, and the beaded&sequined Pointsettia flower on top of it all, with a ribbon band/ties. (And a little red clip-on&pin flower that she can use on the apron or other spots or in her hair!) Mom and her gang of gal pals all made one in high school. I remember her telling me about the beading, she poked herself SO many times! The machine needs some work so there were some issues sewing on it but I hope Frosty doesn't mind - I couldn't get it in to get it worked on before her apron was due. I loved beading the flower, I watched quite a few 3rdRockFromTheSun reruns while working on it and so there is much laughter sewed in to the flower! Mom used red, green, and white beads but I went clear beads for all sections as I thought it gave it more of a 'frosty' look!  Wink

Sewing on Mom's machine:

The beading:

Here's a friend modeling the aprons:

I'm so happy I got to sew this for Frosty. I enjoyed making sure she got an apron! And it really helped bring Mom back to me in a good way, fond happy memories.

I received from Crescentfresh!

What a lovely swap partner - I am enjoying all her crafted items!

So, first up is a group shot:

She sent a reusable shopping bag, a hoop, and a fantastic painting!  The bag is a great brown/ruby corduroy, sturdy and washable and perfect for bringing home the heavy things like all the jars of pickles I love to snack on!   Wink

Now, just look at this wonderful happy colorful hoopla:

I LOVE THIS!!!!  Bird! Colors! Happy! Love love love. I have it in my office and every time a professor stops by with another (last minute) request, they say "Oh! That's wonderful!" and tell me if I ever don't want it any longer, I can give it to them to hang in their office. AS IF. This puppy is MINE MINE MINE!!!!!

And THEN. Then I got a painting.

I am telling you, she got me SPOT ON.  Autumn! Birches! Sunshine! It reminds me of an aspen grove that a friend and I hike to every year in the Yakima River Valley - we try to go multiple times a year in order to see it in all the seasons, and this makes me think of all those happy trips (including spotting a hawk on a nest in the grove one year!). This is getting a cute little frame this weekend, and will also hang in my office (which, while lovely in that it is an office and not a cubicle, consists of four bare icy blue walls - so all this color is so so perfect for brightening it up!).

THANK YOU thank you thank you.  Perfect swap package!  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
