It was a merry christmas for my puppers, thanks to the no sew fleece dog bed tutorial!

Here it is:

Here it is in action, my baby loves her new bed

My roommates dog trying to fit..

I tried to go with red, green and gold because her name is rasta... its the name she came with when I rescued her... and she certainly thinks she is royalty!

3  COOKING / Dessert / Snickerdoodle cupcakes on: November 10, 2010 01:44:47 AM

I had this wicked craving for snickerdoodle cookies the other night but I didn't have everything I needed to make them, so I made cup cakes instead! I used the good housekeeping's recipe for pennywise gold cake  and added cinnamon to taste. Then I made french vanilla butter cream frosting! Yummy
Gold Cake
2 cups sifted cake flour
2 teasp double acting baking powder
1/2 teasp salt
1/2 cup shortning
1 cup plus 2 tablesp. sugar
3 medium egg yoked beaten very thick
1 cup, minus 2 tablesp. milk
1 teasp vanilla extract
cinnamon to taste!
First you beat the egg yokes, it takes a while but they turn a darker yellow and leave "ribbons" when they're ready. Then you cream the shortening and sugar into the eggs. You want them to be light and fluffy, the recipe said 4 min, and honestly I'd been mixing for so long, that at this point I set the timer for 4 min and called it good! This step was tricky, the recipe calls for the flour salt and baking soda to be sifted 3 times and then split into 4ths. The vanilla extract is to be added to the milk and split into 3rds. Both of these are to be added to the sugar and eggs, alternating at low speed, blend until smooth, then fold into a greased and floured pan, or in my case cupcake liners. Bake at 375 20 min for cupcakes or 350 60 min for a regular cake.

Butter cream Frosting
1/3 cup soft butter
1/8 teasp. salt
3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
about 1/ cup milk
1 1/2 teasp. vanilla extract
mix butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy, then alternate adding milk and rest of sugar until the mixture is almost the right consistency, then at vanilla extract!

They turned out so yummy, the top was a little crunchy and the bottoms were super moist, I think this happened because I over filled the cupcake trays, whatever it was, they turned out delish!

4  COOKING / Dessert / HArd Candy Virgin, no more! on: November 10, 2010 12:35:17 AM
I've wanted to make hard candy for a while now, so tonight I finally did it! I googled hard candy and came up with this recipe for lollipops:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup water
3/4 tsp flavor

All you do is mix the sugar, H2O and corn syrup together in a sauce pan until the sugar melts and then you just let it boil, the recipe said to pull the mixture off the heat and add the flavor and color at 295 degree F, (hard crack) but my candy thermometer says hard crack is 310 degrees F. I listened to my candy thermometer and everything turned out all right! I made Cinnamon Hearts, Berry suckers and Watermellon snack shapes. This was the first time I have ever used coloring other than food coloring, the red was ok, but when I tried to make purple for the suckers I used way too much blue and they ended up turning green..eww! They look gross but taste super yummy!
the hearts right after going in the mold

The whole lot of them!

Let the sugar high begin!

7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Flashy Book case (img chunky) on: September 01, 2008 03:51:21 PM
I am so unbelievably happy with how this project turned out! It wasn't planned... but when I went to Micheals to get paint I found Folkart metallic aquamarine and fell in love! I painted two plain shelf units from targe and then sketched tattoo flash inspired pictures on the sides. I used a box lid and a candle holder for the heart and stars, but the rest was all free hand. I took the anchor image from an embroidery pattern but the heart was all from my head.

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / ok, I know christmas is over... but (img chunky) on: January 23, 2008 07:40:14 PM
SO every year my work has a stocking decorating contest. A lot of people moan and grown about it, but I secretly love it! I won last years contest, and so the pressure was on for this year... so here is my stocking, I'm quite proud of it. I guess I should also explain that I work in a coffee shop and I am a coffee master and the resident tea expert... it might make more sense to know that  Wink

it was a dollar tree stocking. I hand stitched the colored blocks together and then hand sewed them onto the stocking, my name and the cups are felt that I embroidered around. I am very proud of this because I am way new to embroidery. It is also complete with coffee stains! I of course spilled my mocha on it when I was leaving work
