1  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Embroidery magazine on: April 08, 2006 09:45:07 AM
A while back, darlingcompanion asked if anyone new of any good embroidery magazines that were a bit edgy.

I came across Fiberarts magazine last summer and was blown away by an article on embroidery artist Anna Torma who won Best of Show last year (2005) at Quilt National. (www.annatorma.com) Her work is very inspiring and she is quite a prolific embroidery artist.

Fiberarts magazine bills itself as "Contemporary Textile Art and Craft". While it is not "edgy" it is definitely contemporary and artsy and VERY INSPIRING. There are NO ducks in bonnets or holly hobbies in this magazine!

I just today got the April/May issue and the cover story is "Growing as an Artist -- life after school, marketing your work, gallery know-how". There is also an article on embroidery artist Pat dipuala Klein.

I highly recommend this magazine. You can check it out online at www.fiberarts.com.
2  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Re: Day of the Dead wedding hankies. on: May 12, 2005 02:18:11 PM
Your hankies are BEAUTIFUL. Miniature heirloom pieces. Your wedding party is very lucky to receive these little treasures.
3  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Re: Embroidered portrait of The Twins on: May 12, 2005 02:08:48 PM
(I didn't realize Jenny had moved "The Twins" over to her Sublime Stitching board. The portrait was inspired by Jenny's portraits and it does contain her birds -- from her Tatoo Your Tea Towels pattern. She is SO incredible!)

Can you believe I finished embroidering this last fall and have not yet put up for display? (Yikes!)

The plan is to put it on a dowel and add some kind of cord and tassels. One of these days...

Right now it's neatly folded away in one of my dresser drawers. Along with some vintage embroidery made by beloved aunts who have passed on. Sigh...

Thanks for the kind feedback.

Very lovely and sweet. Whoever gets this quilt is going to be one lucky person. I love "red work" and your idea to combine it with pink makes it even more charming. You most post the finished quilt.

You're right -- we are here to add our own twist and you did a great job. Very nicely done!

6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Embroidery Artist's Website (Adult content warning!) on: April 14, 2005 01:48:24 PM
Thanks SO MUCH for posting this URL. I went to the site and my jaw dropped to the floor. What incredible work! I especially love her use of vintage embroidered linens -- the way she combines the quaint needlework of the past with her modern nudes. Incredible and very, very inspiring.

Thanks again for posting this URL!

Those are really GROOVY jeans. Takes me back to the late 60s/early 70s when I used to embroidery my jeans. Big sigh...  Very very nice work!
