1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Handmade book which looks like, but isn't, leather on: April 26, 2010 07:10:11 AM
I've just finished making my very first book, which I'm going to use for photos, sketches etc for inspiration with my crafting. The covers are made of fabric, lace, scrim, PVA, gesso, acrylic paint and gold rub 'n' buff.

This is a pic of the detail of the stitching and tape on the spine. I used a toning ribbon and perle thread.

This shows the endpapers (from scrapbook stash!) and stitched pages.

I had such fun and mess making this and can't wait to make another!  Grin
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Embroidered Garden journal on: April 06, 2010 02:00:18 AM

I made this for my sister. The inset picture is embroidered on silk, and I used veg and flowers that I know she grows. I used loads of bullion knots and French knots in this project. The basis of the book is foam board and I had huge problems covering it. In the end I found this sticky backed green flock type stuff and used that. Then I stitched dollshouse garden tools in place. The pages are cartridge paper folded and stitched into place.

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Embroidered sweet bag on: April 06, 2010 01:54:58 AM

I made this Elizabethan sweet bag when I saw the instructions in a magazine. I stitched it on to fine linen, with gold thread to outline the pattern. The flowers and fruits are largely in stumpwork. My favourite bits were the blackberries, with a few added beads, and the snail which is a 40 wrap bullion knot! The bag is lined with silk.
