Details of swap:

So it’s that time of month. For some it’s a use a sick day and cry to our bosses and lay up in bed all day hugging the heating pad and midol kind of thing. For others it’s a sigh of relief that’s it’s made an appearance at last, but that doesn’t make it any more comfortable. And for most it’s a yell at anyone who get’s between you and the chocolate week. This swap is about making that time of month a little more bearable. Feel free to use your imagination and craft something you’d like to take out when Aunt Flo comes for her lovely visit.

You will be making a minimum of:

1 medium item
4 small items

If you’d like to make or buy more please discuss with your partner.

Please keep me updated on your status at least once a week, either by PM to me or by posting in the thread. Please PM me and your partner when you send (with DC#), receive, and if you’ll be late sending. This is to help everything go much more smoothly. Thanks!

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Shopping Cart Cover on: May 24, 2009 06:31:52 PM
I'm not really sure where to put this, feel free to move as neccesary.  Smiley

I made this using the Simplicity 4225 pattern as a basic idea. I made this one reversible. My manager's baby turned 1 recently and she asked me to make one. She bought the fabric for me. It was a really easy pattern. My boyfriend had to help me not over-think making it reversible. It has pockets on both sides and ribbon to connect it to the cart. A lovely box modeled. I really like how it turned out and my manager loved it.  Grin

4  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / Angel FOUND for Dollar Store Swap on: May 19, 2009 09:48:00 PM
erinmarieZ needs an angel for the Dollar Store Swap. The main thread is here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=295929.msg3368393#msg3368393

Info from erinmarieZ's questionnaire:
What type of crafts can you do?: crochet, glass etching(beginner), glass painting(beginner), knitting, sewing, clay(beginner), stenciling, etc.
What type of crafts do you especially admire?: all that I am able to do, art/graphic art/calendars/etc, sewing, puppets/poppets, clay scupltures, jewlery,
Favorite colors:black, pink, green, orange, white
Least favorite colors:pastels or too bright neons

Details of swap:
Yes, it is back! AGAIN! The Dollar Store swap.  Here's the rules from last swaps with some of my own tweaks -

RULES:
1.  It's easy to go nuts in the dollar store, so there is a spending limit.  No less then $6 and no more than $12 (before tax).
2.  There are fake dollar stores out there. You know the ones, The 99 Cents (and in really itty bitty letters) and up stores.  Well, for this swap the store has to be at least 90% of just dollar stuff, there are some stores out there that have a "roped off" section of items that are more than a dollar, but to store has to be almost all dollar items.
3.  No going to other stores like Micheals or WalMart and going to their dollar section.  The store has to be at least 90% dollar stuff.
4.  No thrift stores.  I know I know, but they are so wonderful! I thought a while about this and I think it would be fun to just keep to the dollar store.
5. You may use less than 25% of your stash to make your items. Example: thread from your stash to sew something together with fabric you found in a table runner at the dollar store. Your items should absolutely feature what you bought at the dollar store. If this isnt followed it will be reflected in the comments on your feedback.
5. Think outside the box and have fun!

Please PM me if you'd be interesting in angeling! Thanks a ton!

6  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / Pet Lover's Swap Angel FOUND on: April 05, 2009 11:38:29 AM
I need one angel for mangomerle. She has two birds.

Here is a little blurb mangomerle wrote to me that gives most of the info.

She had agreed to making a cotton cage cover and some shredder/preener toys that were made without dyed parts since the old man bird who needs them is allergic to a lot of dyes. Purchased toys are fine, they're just harder to find non-dyed. For a non-bird crafter I'd say google for shredder toys (minus the TMNT ones  ) or shredder toys for examples and that they'd have to be crafted with untreated natural materials since bits of them will invariably be ingested. I'll have to re-measure the cage for dimensions. We rearranged our bedroom and crafting stuff on Wednesday so I'm not certain where my measuring tape is at the moment, though.  I have 2 quaker parrots who were going to be crafted for. There are pics of them on my blog if you need some reference or inspiration (littlegreenchicken. blogspot.com). My old man bird is named Bird (he knew his name already when he came to live with us) and is somewhere between 25 and 29 years old and he's been my buddy for the last 17 of those years. The other cutie is named Lily and she's been here for just over a year. We were told she was about 7/8 years old when she came to live with us. They are both rescue birds and Lily has made fantastic progress in the last year as far as interacting with people and learning that not everyone is out to hurt her and that not all of that weird green stuff that gets put in her food dish is poison; some of it's pretty tasty, with the exception of carrots, those are still just gross.

PM me if you can angel! Thanks a ton!
7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Challah (Jewish braided bread) on: March 14, 2009 07:39:23 PM
I was browsing the recipes on my favorite cooking blog http://smittenkitchen.com/ and found a recipe for Challah. I've never had it or made it but it sounded yummy and I wanted to learn how to do a 6-strand braid. I over-cooked it a smidge but it still tasted really good and made wonderful french toast. I made a round braided loaf and a long braided loaf but I gave that one away before I took a picture. Heres the recipe I used: http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/09/best-challah-egg-bread/ Oh yeah, the smell while it's baking is absolutely AMAZING.

8  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / First full- sized quilt on: March 14, 2009 07:35:27 PM
This is the first full-sized quilt. I made it for my mom for Christmas. I don't have a picture of it quilted, but these are the in-progress pictures. My cats wouldn't leave it alone, that's the lump in the first picture. The second picture shows the fabrics close up a bit better. I'll have to take a picture of it quilted the next time I'm over there. I don't like how it turned out but I know what to do in the future with the quilting. My mom really liked it so I guess that's what matters.

9  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Tie Quilt on: March 14, 2009 07:29:42 PM
My mom found a box my of dad's old ties in the garage and she figured after two moves he didn't want them anymore so she gave them to me to do something with. I decided to make him a lap quilt. It was rather frustrating. I zig-zagged the ties together then quilted them to this awesome fabric then trimmed the ties into a square. I had to add some satin on the ends and pleat parts of it so that it would lay flat. Over all I'm rather pleased with it, and my dad loved it.

What to craft:

2 smalls and 1 medium

Additional rules to ensure everything goes smoothly and we all have fun (adapted from pinupmommy)

I am reserving the right to refuse any crafter who has poor communication and/or late send-outs for previous swaps!
-When sending PM's, please include "DSS" in all subjects.
-Please post an update in the forum weekly once partners have been assigned.  You don't have to write more than your crafting progress (Medium 50%, Small 0%) if you don't want to.  People who post weekly are less likely to flake, and no one likes flakers! Also, talk to your partner! Have fun and make a new friend.
-DC#'s must be purchased when you ship. Please PM me with "DSS- Shipped" as the subject and copy the message to your partner.  If you will be shipping late, you MUST notify both myself AND your partner.  I understand sometimes that darn thing called life gets in the way of crafting, and I’d MUCH rather have someone who sends a little late than someone who flakes.
-When you receive, please PM me with "DSS - Received" as the subject and copy the message to your partner.
-I will set up a gallery once the first person has shipped.  Please post pictures when your package arrives.  Your partner put a lot of work into crafting for you!  They deserve a little recognition!! Your feedback may be delayed if you don't post pictures promptly. If you stated in your questionnaire that you have access to a camera and don't post pictures that will be noted in your feedback.
- Right after you post pictures, PM me with “DSS- Pictures” in the subject and what page your picture are on to ensure you receive timely feedback

If you have any questions about any of this feel free to PM me
