3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Singers and Brothers and Vikings, oh my!! on: April 15, 2008 01:32:36 PM
The only good Singers are the vintage all metal ones. New ones are garbage...

My mom swears by her Janome and I might go that route when it comes time to replace my vintage Singer.

I wouldn't say garbage, but then again I don't know any better :c
I've heard bad things about Singer and tension problems, and I was pretty mad at my mom when she got me that machine (above post) instead of the Kenmore because the lady talked her into it and my mom is very easy to persuade. Especially by sales people.
The Singer hasn't given me any problems and everything works as it should. Maybe time will prove me wrong, but I think that it is a pretty good machine for the novice sewer Cheesy

When I went to JoAnn's, the lady immediately showed me this machine:
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3199&PRODID=prd38174

It's worked great for me so far (since Christmas) and I love all the stitches (and it's the easiest machine ever!) The only thing that worries me is that the outside casing is plastic. But seeing as though I don't need anything heavy duty, I think it will be good for me c:

Oh, and I had my eye on this machine for a long time before I got the Singer. I would  have gotten this instead if  my mom didn't get me the Singer for my birthday Shocked

Hmm..
Try these:

I don't know how well they'd go over commercial paint, but you could try painting thin coats with a small brush c:

I've heard great reviews on this stuff when it comes to painting fabric.

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Dying Denim **NEW QUESTION** on: April 13, 2008 07:47:46 AM
New-So, my pants are soaking RIGHT NOW, and I just realized I don't know what to do after they are done in the dye bath.
Do I rinse them in cold water?
Throw them in the dryer?

I am lost.. D':

preg_replace('/(.{49})/', '$1 ', '___________________________________________________')
I need to know what brand has the -best quality- home-use fabric dye and where to get it.

I want to dye a pair of my jeans purple for my friend's Sweet 16 [her color for it is purple c: ] and I don't know what to buy Tongue
My jeans are similar to this wash already:

How do I make sure they turn out purple and not pink??

**ps- I ended up buying Rit liquid dye ;P
