1  Re: Fiber Friday Sept. 2 2011 in Spinning: Completed Projects by Antsy on: September 03, 2011 12:44:42 PM
So I've mostly been knitting, but I did get 5 skeins done (only 875 yards total).

2  Minty Fresh in Spinning: Completed Projects by Antsy on: September 01, 2011 04:27:14 PM

Once again I started with natural merino roving from R. H. Lindsay

Which I spun into singles and dyed mint green (my camera is showing it blue, but promise, it's mint green)

Plied my merino with cobweb bamboo singles (the colors look different for some reason, second is more true to color)

Knit it (my first lace, and biggest knit item yet)

Blocked it

Here is the end result

3  Shunshine Shawl in Spinning: Completed Projects by Antsy on: September 01, 2011 04:02:59 PM

So I started off with natural merino roving from R. H. Lindsay.

I dyed it in the Microwave with yellow food color (I don't have a picture of the dyed roving by it's lonesome, but here it is while it's being spun)

Here is the spun yarn which I left as singles

I crocheted it

Blocked it

Here's the end result

Worn

Special thanks to my mom for modeling wool shawls for me in 104F heat.

4  July 15 Fiber Friday in Spinning: Completed Projects by Antsy on: July 14, 2011 09:56:53 PM
I haven't had a whole lot of time to spin lately, and with the weather being as hot and humid as it is I don't really want to spend the time I do have trying to draft wool with sweaty clammy fingers- ick. I did however, get this skein of merino singles spun up. I dyed the roving, spun it, and now I'm thinking about what I want to make with it. I'm leaning towards a shawl or shrug.
682 yards of merino singles

So I actually spun more than this this week, but I've already used up the yarn .
450 yards of Merino singles. I dyed the roving with red and blue food coloring.

And the 500 yards of merino singles crocheted into a shawl (which I already posted in the finished objects thread but oh well)

So I spun up 500 yards of Merino singles and then crocheted this shawl http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/elise-shawl I'm not 100% sure I like it since I feel a bit like an old lady when wearing it, but it's soft and light as a cloud. I don't have a picture of the yarn before crocheting, but since it's just natural merino singles I'm sure you all don't really need one to get the idea. I still need to block it.

7  June 10th Fiber Friday in Spinning: Completed Projects by Antsy on: June 09, 2011 06:23:55 PM
My first time starting a Fiber Friday!

So I went 2 months without spinning anything but yesterday I really got back into it and dyed and spun up 4 skeins.

My very favorite yarn- Merino and bamboo. 175 yards of the softest squishiest prettiest yarn I've spun yet. I don't know that the picture does it justice.

Mint Merino. 200 yards of Merino singles. This is the same as 1 of the ply's in the previous yarn.

Handpainted Merino 2-ply. 175 yards This was really really hard to get a good picture of. It's more of a teal/blue/mint color than it wants to show on camera.

Domestic Gray/Fawn and Bamboo. I have no idea what sort of wool the gray/brown is but it's super scratchy. I love the contrast of dark scratchy wool and silky soft bamboo. 100 yards.

Angry Hippie- You think she's awesome now? look at her back:

Dorathee Rohlfs
Entingham, 1904

She's amazing for spinning cobweb. Haven't spun on both flyers at once yet though.

I love love love love love love love your yarns. As always. Just stunning.

LunaWillow-
How did you like the lincoln? I have a lbs of it here somewhere, but I've been so distracted by the merino and bamboo that I haven't gotten around to even feeling it yet. You did a great job spinning up that skein.

AstorMorray-
I just love the colors of the second skein. So pretty together.

OspreyWife-
Your yarn makes me crave marshmellows. You know, those little pink white and yellow marshmellow twists? just like those. mmm.

Jexxican-
Such beautiful colors! Glad you started the thread.

So I actually spun more than this this week, but really it was just more of what I've already posted.
I finally got my camera back (it only took 10 months) and so no more crappy webcam pics!!! I did a mini photoshoot with all my wheels last weekend when it was sunny and gorgeous so I'll show you them too (I just love to show off Wink ).

So this is the Merino spun relatively thin still on the bobbin.

This is after I hand painted the skein with food coloring.

This is the end result (maybe, I think I'll probably go ahead and make a 2 ply of it, if I do you'll get to see this again next Friday). Around 400 yards of handpainted  merino singles.

This is Lorraine, the wheel I spun the above merino on.

This is Dottie, my double flyer. She has bamboo on the right flyer and some awful scurfy, semi felted, vm filled (especially thorns and stickers) mohair on the left flyer.

This is Layla. She has more of the teal mystery yarn on her bobbin. This pic is much closer to the real color of the singles than the pic I showed 2 (3?) weeks ago

Don't think I've put this up here.

200 yards of cobweb bamboo.

It's not the best picture but oh well.
