These are pixel art paintings of one of the Super Mario World Bonus Games . These were my bf's christmas present, although I didn't finish them in time. The company I work for just went out of business, so I've been pretty disheartened and unmotivated to do much of anything artsy lately
I painted a few of the items taking up the entire 8x8" canvas, and others where they were half-way in the canvas so it looks like a screen shot of them spinning. I'm really not sure how many people will understand the image I was trying to go for, but it's okay.
There are 9 panels, each canvas measures 8x8"...I rested one of our wiimotes above the Starman in the bottom right corner so you could get a better understanding of how big this piece is.
They're acrylic on stretched canvas. I used a flat-head brush to try my best to paint straight lines...I'm not much of a painter honestly, I think it's one of the mediums I'm very uncomfortable and unfamiliar with...I usually crochet or sew things. I think these took about 6-10 hours total, I'm really not sure. I was being extra lazy with them and spanned the progress over the period of 2 days.
The FireFlowers' leaves are a brighter green, but in this photo the lighting is so terrible that they look black or a very dark green : \ Any comments good/bad/suggestions are more than welcome! I bought a giant bottle of a glossy varnish type-dealy, but I'm not sure if I want to use it. I have a feeling I'm going to mess up terribly and just make a mess.
Blooper is that squid guy that is found in the horrible underwater levels of the Mario series.
I hate the underwater levels so much. They managed to make things worse by including Blooper, who shoots out of absolutely NOWHERE and has unpredictable diagonal jetting motions. Even worse– they have Bloopers with a trail of Blooper babies that take up half the swimming area in those levels! GAH!
But I’ve learned to love this guy, even though he’s followed me to Mario Kart Wii and squirts black ink all over my screen to block my view of the race track. Despite all these annoying traits, he is rather adorable, haha.
This Blooper measures 9” and has a blank stare, leaving you to believe he’s as shocked as you are at how ridiculously adorable he is. He took about 5-6 hours. I don’t have a pattern for this guy, along with most of the things I make. I really should try to make a habit of writing the pattern down as I’m making something, but I improvise a lot and I am also a very lazy person.
Edit: The Power-Up panels in the background were another project and can be found Here
Here they are! The Super Mario play set that includes 7 characters! All together I think these guys took about 8 hours to make. So much fun! I kind of wanted to make a stop-motion video of all the characters to classic Super Mario music, but someone adopted them before I could do so
- Mario (4") - Goomba (1") - 1-Up shroom (1") - Power mushroom (1") - Bob-Omb (1/2") - Bullet Bill (3") - Starman (2") **modified AprilDraven's Twinkle Star**
Bonus! Penguin Suit Mario from New Super Mario Bros Wii! This guy took about 4 hours I believe...he measures 4.5" and has cute penguin feet and tiny yellow buttons on his overalls
I haven't written out a pattern yet, but I can try. I'm just REALLY bad at doing so (take for example, my Piranha Plant Scarf pattern...really incomplete and nonsensical!). Thanks for looking, any comments and suggestions are very much appreciated!
They all thought I was crazy. I tried to explain it and it just got worse.
Haha, I know what you mean! I showed my friends, and they said "I don't get the boot..." and I was explaining "You know...Mario hops around in it...it's got that wind-up dealy in the back?" ...blank stare.
From the MarioWiki: A Goomba's Shoe (previously known as Kuribo's Shoe) is a large, green-colored boot with a wind-up key sticking out of the back of it; it is also one of the rarest of all the power-ups in all of the Mario series.
The green Goomba Shoe makes only 1 appearance throughout the Mario games in Super Mario Bros. 3, Level 5-3 Skyland. See a video of it's amazing capabilities in action here! (at 0:25)
When I first played Mario 3, I had no idea you could sit in the shoe for a ride!
Boot-er luck next time, Goomba! (props to the bf for thinking up the hilarious caption )
All is forgiven-- we can share the boot! Over the weekend I sewed on 2 very tiny yellow buttons for Mario's overalls, but forgot to re-take the pictures!
Mario: 4.5" Goomba: 2" Green Shoe: 4"
These were made with my own crochet pattern. I didn't write any of it down though, I am really terrible at writing patterns!
I scribbled a quick Mario background to take some photos, haha! I hope you enjoyed them! Any comments (good/bad/suggestions) would be appreciated
Hi everyone! Here's another Mario related project of mine...actually I just noticed that the only projects I've posted here are Mario inspired! I saw a project similar to this one on Ravelry and just had to have a go at it. This is a Piranha Plant scarf that I made for my bf's younger sister. She's either a Junior or Senior in high school.
Our apartment kind of has a Mario theme going on...even the bathroom's decorated!
I'm kind of worried that she's too cool to wear this out. Geek Chic is in though, right? That kind of sucks if you're a real nerd-- because that's not cool. It's only cool if you're pretending
I used Lion Brand Jiffy Solids. Originally I doubled up on the yarn when I made the green pipe, but it came out too thick and stiff. So I started a 2nd green pipe without doubling up and it turned out soft and cozy.
Here is the pattern for the Piranha Plant itself for those who want to have a go at this. Please do not resell the pattern or the finished product, thank you!
**pattern removed, long story. please pm if you'd like me to email it to you!**
Hi everyone! Over the weekend someone asked if I could make a Yoshi netbook sleeve for their gf. I didn't really know how to go about doing that, but I think it turned out okay? I used vinyl on the outside and pink polka dot fabric on the inside. They didn't have a bright green vinyl at the store, so I had to use a forest green for Yoshi...
Yoshi and an apple
Close up of Yoshi
Close up of apple with yellow apple print ribbon
Back of netbook sleeve
Close up of egg
Inner lining
Please let me know what you think! I really hope the recipient is happy with the outcome. I also made her a giant pillow in the shape of Yoshi's egg
Hello everyone! This is my second project I've posted on Craftster. The first was a crocheted 7x7ft Raccoon Mario rug that sits in our livingroom. I wanted to keep the Mario theme going since our bathroom has these wall decals already, so I decided to make a large Question Mark Block ottoman slipcover!
What's inside! Coin? Extra life? Leaf? And how does a leaf turn Mario into a Raccoon, and how does it make him fly...
Close up to show that the shadow is cut out from the yellow background with black showing from behind.
Ottoman and Rug side by side
This project was moderately easy but was difficult at times, because I have never worked with vinyl fabric before. I bought a non-stick presser foot for my machine especially for this! I hope it turned out okay. I actually threw it in the trash because I wasn't happy with how it was coming along. But the bf rescued it and said I should finish it since I was almost done with the project. So I fixed the imperfections that drove me insane and finished up the slipcover for him
Any comments are welcome, I'd love to know what you guys think! Thanks very much for looking.
when i get to the point where there's 4 squares being sewn together, that little space between all the squares... i dunno what to do. =*( how did you sew this together?
I mapped out all the pixels first, then divided it into 4 sections, like this:
I began from the bottom left section, and sewed 4 black granny squares together. Then continued sewing the rows separately, like this:
And once I got the bottom left and right sections complete, I began sewing those separate rows together (this way, the point where the corners being sewn together won't make a gap). And I did the same for the top half for Mario's head, and just sewed his head to his body once the two halves were complete
I hope I explained it okay. Basically you sew long rows of granny squares, then sew those rows together to avoid a wonky looking gap in the connecting corners of the granny squares
Hello everyone! This is the first project I've posted on Craftster (he's on my Ravelry page now). It is a 7x7ft 8-bit Raccoon Mario rug! This is my bf's birthday present
He's made of 386 granny squares, each one representing 1 pixel (3.5" each) that makes up Raccoon Mario. I learned to crochet in February by watching youtube videos and recently watched another video for granny squares and got started on this project right away. I had originally thought that it would take me over 1 month to complete if I made about 10 granny squares per day.
Flying through our livingroom!
We're playing Mario Kart Wii upside down here
Bottom left corner complete with remaining granny squares lined up above.
Box stacked with granny squares...
I finished him in 15 days (approx. 120hrs put in)! It took 13 days to complete all the individual granny squares, then 2 days to sew them all together. I made an Excel spreadsheet with columns and formulas detailing the number of granny squares needed for each color, then used this to track my daily progress (like a true geek, haha) and motivate me to keep out-doing myself.
The bf loves it! I hope you guys do too...I was afraid to post this because I just saw Gege's Super Mario Obsession blanket, and this one's no where close to being as RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING. Thanks for any feedback and responses you guys may have. I hope I still did a good job though...
07/30/09: Changed first picture to show my question mark block ottoman
01/22/10: The rug's been featured in February's issue of Nintendo Power!!! AHHHH!
