1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / new western shirt! on: May 27, 2010 04:25:47 PM
Just finished this shirt. The fabric is baby blue (color doesn't translate well in the photos) with dark red piping and applique and red pearl snaps. The shirt was designed by me, Jerry Lee. Let me know what you think!

Just picked this up off Craigslist for $30. Does anyone know what it is used for?

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / cuckoo clock embroidery on: March 27, 2009 09:04:56 PM
Here's an embroidery that I finished recently. It's another original design and was worked in chainstitch on white cotton. Thanks for looking!

4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / typewriter embroidery on: March 21, 2009 06:07:19 AM
This is an embroidery of my own design. The image is a circa 1900 Oliver typewriter from my collection of antique and vintage typewriters. The embroidery was worked in chainstitch on wool gabardine fabric.

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / pinstripe dress on: February 22, 2009 07:08:22 AM
here's a quick dress i made yesterday... no pattern, just draping on the dress form. i'm going to take it apart and make a paper pattern after i make some adjustments. the entire dress was made in about three hours, so it's a little rough but i wanted to get an idea of what people like and/or don't like about it (keeping in mind that this is a very preliminary design). your feedback is greatly appreciated!

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / embroidered Japanese inspired western shirt on: July 13, 2008 07:29:33 PM
I was commissioned to make a shirt with Japanese inspired embroidery for the drummer of a local rockabilly band. He wanted a Japanese demon mask on it as well as a drum symbol. It turned out really well despite the odd cultural mash up.

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / totally rad corduroy blazer with star pockets on: April 24, 2008 01:51:37 PM
I just finished this. I drafted the pattern and designed it myself. The star shaped pockets are piped and all of the top stitching was done by hand.

thanks for looking!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / New roller derby uniform w/dragon embroidery!!!! on: April 19, 2008 08:17:11 AM
I just finished this today. Western style Naptown Roller Girls (Indianapolis) uniform for Kitiara who will be making her derby debut at this evening's bout. The dragon was embroidered on my free-motion chainstitch embroidery machine and took about 6 hours to complete. I did the embroidery on a seperate piece of fabric then appliqued it to the shirt.

9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Plastic handwheel on vintage sewing machine? on: April 18, 2008 02:43:53 PM
A friend of mine gave me this lovely White sewing machine from the 40's that he bought at an auction for $5. It doesn't look like it's been used very much and works great (after applying quite a bit of oil). The most interesting feature is the plastic handwheel. I've seen plastic handwheels on more modern machines but was surprised to see it on something this old. At first I thought it was a replacement part, but it's also shown in the original manual which came with the machine. Here's the machine:

10  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / CTS embroidery thread... has anyone used it? on: April 10, 2008 12:43:36 PM
http://www.ctsusa.com/_e/dept/22-002-001/Polyester_Embroidery_Thread.htm

I want to buy some of these industrial size spools for my embroidery machine, but the price is so low I'm a little weary of the quality. So far, I like the Isacord brand of embroidery thread, but it's kind of expensive. I've tried the Sulky rayon embroidery thread and it breaks too easily and I've also tried the Coats & Clark trilobal polyester embroidery thread but it's really crummy too. I've emailed CTS and asked about thier embroidery thread but naturally they say it's the strongest and the best... I need some less biased reviews! Thanks!
