1  my first embroidery attempts. in Needlework: Completed Projects by sunshineburning on: March 24, 2011 06:14:21 PM
None of these are my own design. I'm still searching for links to them, I'll post them once I find them!

My first embroidery.

This is more true to color but the other shows the stitches better, which I'm proud of.
PS: I did this one while watchin my guy play Dead Space... I have no idea how it turned out so bright and cheery. Tongue

This one I tried to do mixed media, I'm not overly proud of her though. I'm thinking about attempting her again.

2  My mother's a hobbit and needed somewhere to sleep. (5 biggish pics) in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by sunshineburning on: June 25, 2010 04:39:14 PM
My dad, myself and brother are all nerds.  My mom somehow resisted for 25 years until she had surgery last summer and was in bed for a month or so.  We somehow convinced her to read the Lord of the Rings triology, when she was done she said she was a hobbit

So as a late mothers day gift I made her a hobbit hole.  Its just regular clay that is supposed to be kiln dried but I have no access to one so its thouroughly air dried.

The flowers are actually dmc floss dipped in tacky glue and stuck on after the paint was dried.

This is more true to color and shows the detail of the painting better.

On the right is my mothers wood pile for those cool summer nights.  The wood shed is made out of toothpicks and the logs are tubes of clay.

On the left are her watermelons. And yes, they are average sized watermelons, thats why they are almost as big as the door. Smiley  The fence to keep the pesky dwarves out is made of toothpicks and hemp rope and was a PAIN.

And here is my poor neglected daughter waiting for me to finish so she can come out of her pen and play.

3  21st birthday dress! (3pics) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by sunshineburning on: March 24, 2010 04:36:18 PM
Well its technically inspired by those Herve Leger bandage dresses, but its a recon so its going here.

Another story....

My bf understands that as a woman I have days that I do not like myself.  And to fix this he has always given me pep talks, these talks often include him comparing me to Athena/Kim K and calling me his future wife.  Grin The comparison to Kim K comes about because I just really like her and he knows this.  Well I'm turning 21 and haven't quite reached the goals I wanted to by this point in my life, and became somewhat depressed for a couple days.  After a pep talk from my bf I made this...

-ignore the vpl and awkward pose.

-ignore the lining seam, its from the flash of my cam.

Its my Kim K inspired 21st birthday dress!

I so so so lucked out at finding the fabric I did.  It was originally a 3xl polo shirt that I found at goodwill, luckily with no stains.  Just think BIG, I didn't get a before pic.  I totally winged the dress and could not be happier with it.  Its basically a very high waisted pencil skirt with two right triangles on top, and then darted where needed.

Definitely needs ironing and one last wash to be sure I'll be able to breath in it.

4  christmas ornaments. made on time, posted really late. in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by sunshineburning on: February 04, 2010 02:48:32 PM
Same concept for both.  I took clear glass(bad idea) ornaments and put either sand or cut out glitter felt (to look like snowflakes) inside.  I then cut out a christmas tree and a palm tree. The christmas tree has red beads for lights.  After stressing I got both trees into their respective ornaments and tied them so they dangled from the lid.  I used white fabric paint on the outside for more snowflakes on both.  The palm tree says Christmas in paradise[made for my future mil who loves living on the coast] the christmas tree says Merry Christmas[for my mommy].

Palm tree christmas

regular christmas.

Btw, talk about a pain to photograph...

5  Team [MY BOYFRIEND] in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by sunshineburning on: February 04, 2010 02:36:11 PM
I was once a team jacob person, before it was cool.  Then I met my boyfriend, whose name is heath.  Well heath likes to dare me to do things.

He dared me to make a team heath shirt and wear it.

I did, and when he saw it he nearly cried.  Grin

Just a plain two dollar tee from dollar general. You can't see but I rolled the sleeves and changed the neck to be more of a scoop neck.

7  Tan twirly dress. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sunshineburning on: May 02, 2009 11:56:06 PM
So I saw the fabric with the dots at joanns and had to have it... BUT it was a remant and was less than half a yard.   Undecided

So I decided to make a dress using it and two yards of super soft fabric I've been hoarding for years and years. Its the first 'freehand' project I've done too. I'm very proud.  Grin

Not the best pics. My camera was grumpy.

The strap across the back works kinda like a bra strap since the tan skirt fabric has no structure and therefore no support.  Grin

8  'Gamer' plushies? (pic obese maybe) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by sunshineburning on: January 12, 2009 08:00:48 PM
A sad story first.
My brother loves WoW. He was hacked a few days ago and was heartbroken. He lost 2K gold(thats alot fyi) and lost hope in mankind.  He's still waiting for his claim to be looked at but in the mean time I made him a Hacker Attacker. He is ferocious.

And yes, he has a mohawk.  Grin
*fleece with 'real' doll eys, fabric paint, and black yarn for his awesome hair.

Next was my brothers X-mas present. A Hearthstone pillow. I'm going to steal it back if he's not careful.

*fleece with blue fabric paint

9  B&W Beaded Ornament in Beads: Completed Projects by sunshineburning on: November 09, 2008 01:48:02 PM
Made this my sr. year of high school.  It was actually featured for a short while in an art gallery.

The beading technique is basically victorian netting I think.  I don't really remember anything more specific than that.  Grin

10  Denim wrap dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sunshineburning on: September 24, 2008 12:32:26 PM
I have a pair of heels I love.

But I had nothing to wear with them.

So I made this.

I used bits and pieces of different patterns and tutes except the top. I drafted that boy by myself.  Lol. Never again.  Grin
