1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / owl pillows on: November 22, 2010 11:27:27 AM
in 2006 my grandfather passed away and it was very hard on our family he liked owls and in our eyes pretty much knew everything like a wise old owl so that has pretty much been an on going theme thats associated  with him. for this christmas being short on funds i decided to make all of my cousins small owl pillows and for my daughter since she has just turned two i made her a pillow case to go on her very first pillow

here is the small pillow un stuffed there are six of them and they all look alike just with alternating fabrics i just made up the pattern

for the larger pillow i made the base out of one of my grandmas old dresses cut into squares and patchworked (not sure what to call it) and appliqued the owl on

i would love to know what you think!! have a nice day!!

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / mother earth simplified on: November 04, 2008 03:49:48 PM
so after having searched for about a month for a costume that would flatter my larger than life figure yet not have to settle for the stereotypical "bun in the oven" costume i came across this post http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=129919.msg1261693#msg1261693 by DAYMOTH and let me tell you i fell in love with her costume. knowing i would never be able to do hers justice i  consider this my "tribute"

at thirty six weeks i knew i wouldn't feel comfortable in anything revealing or restricting so i went with a simple tube with a drawstring at the top and a belt to create a mock empire waste and show i was plump and preggo and not just extra plump so i went from there. the fabric is a mystery gray like soft on one side and smooth on the other like extremely cheap sweatshirt material in a way. all of the leaves came from dollar store fall garland and i at one time had a leaf crown but my brother had one too many drinks and decided he was a zombie that needed a leaf crown. there were accessories such as a  necklace with matching bracelet and earrings but they aren't very visible in the pic i can supply pics if anyone wants.  the shawl thing was pinned to the top of the dress so i didn't have to mess with it and my shoulders didn't get cold. my machine has been broken for ages so everything was hand sewn including the leaves ONE BY ONE haha. i didn't wear shoes because 1. i was in my parents house and shoes are a nono 2. i figured mother nature would prefer to go au natural and 3. my feet were so swollen any respectable pair of shoes wouldn't fit
so there you have it now i present mother nature

please excuse the face i was laughing not in a great deal of pain as it appears

and a semi close up kudos to my little sister for letting me use her room to take the pics and being my photographer!!
well don't forget to vote and even if it's not for me let me know what you think please!!
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / low budget nursery on: September 27, 2008 11:21:22 PM
ok so this is more of a WIP but im so excited to get something done im posting what i have so far... well being as we aren't very well off right now and the doctor said i can no longer work we are cutting costs wherever possible this means in our soon to be peanuts room too so with about $15 at walmart and about $3 at the craft store i managed to add some personality to her room

first i got these wooden letters and 2 sheets of scrapbooking paper at the craft store along with thumbtacks superglue and some rubber cement i came out with these.... the bow i tied from a piece of ribbon that came on a blanket from a shower gift ... should i even the ends it is kind of bugging me but i also think it adds character this is all going to be above her dresser that we are getting for free from my mom tomorrow!!

then i went to walmart and got these baskets why are they purple and black and the room is in pooh colors you ask ...well because they were 3 for $5.50 thats why and i added some more of the paper to them to make matching lables... also i would like to point out my $30 changing table that i got so cheap because it was the display model

thanks for looking and comments would be greatly appreciated!!

EDIT: ok so i got the dresser and i knew it would be in rough shape but i didn't know how bad it would be and i didn't think the not matching would bother me but it did so i had to so something about it
i put fabric that matched the rest of the room on the drawers since changing the finish was out of the question and i used contact paper to cover the questionable water marks on the inside of the drawers

and this was a little embellishment on a gift bag i got and i just us cute thumbtacks to put it on the closet door

again i would really like some feedback i have a hard time knowing weather my craftiness is a good thing or a bad thing because no one seems to pay much attention to my posts... er sorry
