1  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Crockpot Meal Ideas on: April 23, 2004 08:28:32 AM
I am in need of some crockpot recipes that are not your traditional crockpot fare.

Does anyone have any favorite recipes that are not the standard crockpot recipes of the last 50 years?

We like different ethnic foods in my house, and don't eat a whole lot of meat. That's pretty much the opposite of most the crockpot cookbooks I find.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Standard Measurements on: April 22, 2004 04:51:32 PM
I'm trying to knit a hat for a 1-year-old cousin, and am just making up a pattern.  (Shhh, it's a surprise.)

However, I know babies' heads are not all that small, but this hat doesn't look like it will fit?  Does anyone know of an online source with average body measurements for kids?  Or if you have made a hat for a one year old, what was the circumference?
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Bad Arts (or Crafts) Night on: January 20, 2004 02:11:41 PM
For a couple of years, a friend of mine organized a Bad Art night, similar to this:
http://www.thegreenguide.org/arts/centers.php

The basic premise is that you focus on creating, having fun, enjoying each others' company, and playing with materials. It was a blast.  Toward the end, a lot of my creations involved marabou feathers and sequins.

At one of the easter themed parties, my friend and I created a "Peep" Show out of Peep bunnies and chicks.

Other themes includes Thanksgiving, flipflops, aprons, white elephant Xmas (we exchanged white elephant gifts and then decorated them), easter eggs, and father's day neckties.

Schedules got to be too hectic for people in the group, but it's a fun idea for people who have a lot of supplies on hand, and who need a break from being focused on always making a project that is 'good.'
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Futon transforms into .... on: December 01, 2003 07:36:51 AM
We replaced our futon mattress, and I still have the old futon.

I'm planning to make some floor cushions (for extra seating when I host knitting circle).  I bought several blue XL men's shirts and women's dresses for the cushion covers.

I'm also going to make a cushion for my hope chest, so it will be a window seat.

Has anyone done a similar project? Any advice? Otherwise, I'll jump right in and hope for the best.

5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Paper Sample Books on: November 28, 2003 11:13:18 AM
I've managed to accumulate several paper sample books that print shops supply to customers.  Basically, it's a 5" x 8" booklet with sheets of paper in assorted colors and weights.

Most of the paper is in the 4" x 5" range.  And just one sheet of any given color.

I'll probably make a few origami items for the xmas tree.  And some of the nicer, more festive papers I'll probably use cookie cutters as stencils to make into simple ornaments and gift tags.

Any other ideas?
