1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / HELP!!! Graduation Party 4th July/Boston-theme: Location?? on: April 09, 2009 10:18:59 AM
Hey Craftsters!

My idea for my graduation party is to have a 4th July/Bostonian theme (I'm from Singapore and went to Boston in the summer for an immersion program-- i study early childhood education).

I was wondering what would be a suitable location to hold a graduation party for about 30+ people? (The house isn't an option  Sad ) Most of the venues that are available house larger parties (100 and above). Do you think that having a party at a restaurant is suitable? Are there any other locations that's fitting for 30+ people?

Please share your ideas, I've got a little over a month to settle the venue (party's in June)! I hope to hear from the ever-helpful crafters soon!! Thanks!

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Giant Shopping Totes! Flask, Blender or Rice Cooker May Fit! on: November 11, 2008 01:46:30 AM
Hey Craftsters,

Just wanted to share 2 totes I made recently for a swap, since my partner's received I thought I'd post it up. They're really huge and spacious with a drawstring close. Real easy to make, I think they took a total of a little over an hour to make. And here onto the photos!!  Smiley

Made them extra large, I'm pretty sure the flask, blender or rice pot may fit!  Cheesy

And here they are folded.

Thanks for looking!

4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Polyester and waterproof on: October 08, 2008 08:47:04 AM
Hey craftsters,

I was at the fabric store this afternoon (there was a 20% sale on all items!!) found this amazing cloth that's begging to be made into a raincoat. All the tag said was: 100% polyester. I'm not sure if it is made to be waterproof. Is the raincoat still possible to be made? Will the rain seep through the polyester cloth? I'm thinking of lining the cloth with a layer of plain cotton or perhaps calico. Help please! Any ideas?

5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Clothing: Child Boards (Tops/ Bottoms) on: July 25, 2008 03:46:19 AM
I wonder if there could be child boards in clothing, eg: tops (blouses/tanks/tees/tubes/shirts/jackets) and bottoms (skirts/shorts/pants/overalls) since there's already a shoe board? this way it'll be a lot neater and easier when searching for any projects. just my 2 cents.  Wink
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Vacation Photograph Swap on: July 19, 2008 05:05:46 AM
Hey everyone!

I was wondering if it's of interest to anyone to have photograph swap of your holiday/vacation trip? The idea is to share with the partner sceneries of a holiday destination that you've been to, say swapping about maybe 20 to 30 photographs? Had that idea from participating the disposable camera swap.

Let me know your ideas!

7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Macro Challenge: Sound of White on: May 13, 2008 07:33:04 AM
Hello all,

There are no edits for this photo other than the border and text. I hope you'll like it. There's a story for this photo, here's some lyrics to help you understand a little more about the story:

The Sound Of White- Missy Higgins

Like a freeze-dried rose, you will never be,
what you were, what you were to me in memory.
But if I listen to the dark,
you'll embrace me like a star,
envelope me, envelope me...
If things get real for me down here,
promise to take me to before you went away -
if only for a day.
If things get real for me down here,
promise to take me back to the tune
we played before you went away.

And if I listen to, the sound of white,
sometimes I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
Yeah if I listen to, the sound of white ..
You're my mystery. One mystery. My mystery. One mystery.

My silence solidifies,
until that hollow void erases you,
erases you so I can't feel at all.
But if I never feel again, at least that nothingness
will end the painful dream, of you and me...
If things get real for me down here, promise to take me to
before you went away, if only for a day.
If things get real for me down here, promise to take me back to
the tune we played before you went away.

And if I listen to, the sound of white
sometimes I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
Yeah if I listen to, the sound of white
sometimes I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
And if I listen to, the sound of white.

I knelt before some strangers face,
I'd never have the courage or belief to trust this place,
But I dropped my head, 'cos it felt like lead,
And I'm sure I felt your fingers through my hair...

And if I listen to, the sound of white sometimes
I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
Yeah if I listen to, the sound of white.
The sound of white,
The sound of white,
The sound of white.

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / HELP needed- secret santa gift? on: December 19, 2007 09:01:05 AM
Hey crafters!

I'm in need of serious help for a secret santa swap at my work place. I work in retail, a really cool shop that's catering to the young- full of colour and awesome clothes. I've got a problem of thinking of a gift that's unisex and costing between $20-$30.

Here's some idea of the coworkers I work with:
-aged between 17-20 (and managers: 25 and 30 y/o)
-equal number of males and females
-most are school drop outs, only several in school still
-none married (except for the 30 y/o manager)
-everyone's got a different style: there's some gamers, some into music (the whole rock scene), some are shopaholics.
-the only thing that is in common is that all of them go clubbing
-not all drinks
-only handful can drive or ride
-i dont know any of them very well

My problem is, i'm running very low on cash (i just bought tickets to see incubus  Cheesy). I was wondering if there's anything anyone can suggest that is quick to craft, and does not look cheap. I really do not want to fall into the voucher/ cold hard cash category as it doesnt seem personal enough, and looks like i didnt put in any effort.

I can sew fairly well, stencil, work well with recycled items. I am also into photography, my photoshop skills are limited tho. However, I cannot for the life of me, draw or paint.

Please, my fellow craftsters, i need your help! I've looked through the boards and really, because of the vast difference in all my co-workers, it's really not easy to find a gift that could cater to all. HELP please, i'll be eternally grateful!

Thank you in advance!
