2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / First attempt at snaps, piping, a zipper, a lining and button hole making!! on: February 28, 2008 11:06:20 AM
Hi guys!

I'm so proud of my latest creation! It was my first try at a bag and i love the results. Basically, i wasn't using my backpack in school because the fabric on the back was making all my pretty clothe pill, so i decided to make my own! The other problem that i had with my ex-bag was that everything didn't have a place! It would all fall to the bottom of my back and if i wanted to get at anything i would have to dump everything out and that was a real pain! So i decided that i had to have a specially sized pocket for everything that i own! I Well anyway, I really love toile and so when i went to Fabricville and found this beautiful but expensive toile i new i had to have it! ( i got the lining fabric at a really great price!) anyway, by the time i got to the zipper stage i didn't have the slightest idea how to put it in with the lining, so i went to the seamstress that my mom has been going to for 28 years (she's like a grandma to me) and she explained to me how to install it (after she offered to do it for me, with i quickly refused because i wanted to do it all by myself!) so....here it goes!

Oh and BTW, i took these pictures in the library with my web cam....i had to be discreet, sorry!

Okay so this is the over all bag with the outside pocket (with snap!!!  Grin)

My first attempt at piping!

Zipper and straps:

Lining with pockets that are specially sized for every item i have:

I also make a laptop case that matches: first automatic button hole!

AND MY AMAZING NAILS (so i can show them off..tee hee):

Thanks so much for looking

4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Poppet eyes- embroidery on: January 18, 2008 08:37:39 PM
Hi!

I'm almost finished my first poppet..all she is missing is eyes! It makes me really sad to see her like this, but I already attempted one eye, and it wasn't successful. She's a bunny...does anyone have any good ideas?

Thanks!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / T-Shirt for the Spice Girls Concert!! WIP (almost done!) on: January 07, 2008 09:30:35 PM
Hi! Well, I was so excited about how this came out, I couldn't wait until it was done to show it off (who can?) It's basically 5 dresses that represent each spice girl! The only thing that's missing on the front is Ginger's little black undies (because they always showed whens she wore that dress) and on the back I'm going to write SPICE in the same fabric as the pink dress (Baby Spice)

This is what I originally had planned, but Sporty and Scary got cut off when I tried the shirt on

This is the final placement of all of the dresses.

From left to right (top) is Ginger, Baby and Posh (bottom) Scary and Sporty!

oh my gosh, I hate to gloat but I'm just so proud! It's so cute! (It took forever!! they are all sewn on, not glued!)
6  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / fraying ends question on: December 21, 2007 09:01:46 PM
Hi!

I found this great quilt in a quilting store that used the technic where you let the ends fray. It was made with quilter's flannel. The lady who made it explained to me how to make it and told me to only wash it when i was done because that helps the seams fray. The flannel that she used was very expensive so i went and picked some up at fabricland (in canada) which is a normal, alround frabric store. I was told that i have to pre-wash the less expensive (and therefore lower quality) flannellette because if i don't my squares will shrink and go all wonky.

Has anyone ever used this technic with a lower quality flannel? Does it work out well without a pre-washing?

Thanks a bunch!
7  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Van Gogh's Starry Night Inspired Quilt on: November 16, 2007 06:59:14 AM
Hi! I'm in great need of some help! My room is in need of a huge make-over and I decided that I am going to make my own quilt. I wanted it to be inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night. I know that this is a huge undertaking, but I have a lot of time on my hands and the sewing machine that my parents got me for my birthday is itching for some breaking-in!

Has anyone seen a quilt like this before? Or a pattern to execute it?

Thanks quilting gods!

(Oh, and don't worry, this isn't my first quilt!  Smiley)
8  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Fussy cutting on: November 14, 2007 06:02:38 AM
Hey! I was wondering if anyone could tell me what fussy cutting is! The term is used a lot but I'm never quite sure what people are referring to. Thanks!
