21  Singer 758 questions! Updated with issues!!!! in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by twisted5whispers on: December 17, 2011 09:21:43 AM

So I recently became the proud owner of a gently used Singer 758. I found it on craigslist, and the woman selling it gave it to me for free because she said there was something wrong with it, but didn't know what (she originally had it up there for $75) I took it too my local Singer sewing machine repair center, and the gentleman running the place said it had a bad motor, but other than needing that it was in good shape. I paid $140 for them to service it and replace it with a used motor. There is a 1 year warranty on the stitch quality and if the gears go in that time, I only have to pay for the gears no labor.

My question for my fellow craftsters... Did I get ripped off? I'm not a total newbie when it comes to sewing, I took home-ec in high school, and have spend many hours sewing with my grandma. It has all the original parts, manual, stitch wheels for different stitch patterns, I believe all the different feet and stitch plates(I believe that's what they are called) are there. It even came with the original cabinet. I just haven't put it back in there yet.

Have any of ya'll used a Singer 758? Is there any advice for me? I have yet to sit down and use it. I just picked it up today. And need to get some scrap fabric to practice on.

Thank you for any advice and comments!  Cheesy

22  Baby Blanket! in Crochet: Completed Projects by twisted5whispers on: October 28, 2011 05:10:55 AM
So I started this baby blanket at the beginning of Sept I believe. I just finished it last night and boy am I glad to have it done! The baby shower is sunday and I cannot wait to give it to the mom! It is for my db's close friend who just got married and is having a baby at the end of the year. I originally posted on here to find the pattern for it, I saw a pillow at a few local fairs over the summer and I reallllly wanted to know what it was, I fell in love with the pattern that is for sure! Off to pictures!

In comparison with a cd... This shows the stitch detail on one side...

This shows the stitch detail on the other side...

This shows how different the sides are...

And this shows how on the one side it looks like ridges..

I am SOOO happy to have this done. It was a labor of love for me. I usually procrastinate and don't get things done on time... Well I managed to get it done 3 days before the shower! Yay!!

C&C welcome!  Grin

24  Looking for pattern for blanket! in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by twisted5whispers on: September 09, 2011 05:13:31 PM
So at one of my local county fairs this year I was looking through the rooms with all the different crafts people have made and entered for the contests. I saw a few different items made with this pattern and I was wondering if anyone knew of the pattern for it? I want to make a small baby blanket out of it!

Any help is greatly appreciated!  Cheesy

25  Re: WIP Wednesday - July 7 in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by twisted5whispers on: July 09, 2010 01:02:39 PM
I've been working on the 12 pointed star afgan for about 2 weeks now! I love this pattern! found http://project-angel-kisses.150m.com/roundripple.html I'm using a size J hook and Vanna's Choice yarn...
I actually messed up one of the points because I was confused on the pattern but didn't REALLY notice it till the second chunk of color and since it is for myself I didn't see the need to frog it...

I had to stand on my bed to get a good view of the whole thing...

As you can see I JUST started the blue... this thing is eating the yarn! I had to make another trip to Micheal's to get more yarn! After the blue I have some yellow I'm going to use then do a few rows of brown then if I have enough yarn I want to do one row of each color just to make it a little larger; but it really depends how big it is after I am done with the blue yellow and last 2 rows of brown.

I am doing 7 rows of each color except for the purple which has 9 because of round center, and 2 rows of brown between each color...

I reallly love it  Grin

26  12 pointed star afgan issue! in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by twisted5whispers on: June 28, 2010 01:23:46 PM
I am having an issue with the way the rows are coming together on the pattern from this website http://project-angel-kisses.150m.com/roundripple.html

the point that is before where the rows get single crocheted tog isn't as tall as the other points and I am getting this weird gaping that doesn't look right. now since this blanket is for myself it's not a big deal but i plan on making more for other people...

this is what the other points look like...

according to the pattern after you do the double v or single v stitch in the 2 sc space you are suppose to skip last 2 sts, join. now i have been doing that but this is what I get...

the green yarn is where i am starting the next row.... any help??!

thank you! Smiley

29  fingerless gloves... that actually turned out wearable! in Crochet: Completed Projects by twisted5whispers on: January 31, 2008 12:10:37 PM
so i found this pattern for fingerless gloves... http://www.crochetandknitting.com/mitglov2.htm and bf wanted a pair(i promised him these back in december!)

well i made a few practice pairs, and they were too small for his hands. so i tried them with a bigger hook.. still too small in a few places.. so i altered it! the picture makes the fingers look like they bulge out and they do.. but you can't tell when he has them on cause his fingers are big but he wanted the glove tight..

close up of the stitching.. its all in sc. basically i increased 3 rows before i was going to start the fingers. two rows of *2 sc in one, 3 sc, 2 sc in one sc* repeat till end of row. i did that for two rows, then just did one sc in each stitch. i ended up having 41 stitches instead of the indended 26 like the pattern wanted. boy likes them so i'm happy!

boy wasnt home.. so they are like eating my hands!

they still aren't done. i have to get some white embroidery floss and stitch on "str8 edge" on the fingers, boy is very straight edge. but i will post those pictures too when i'm done!

let me know what you think!!  Grin i'm a proud parent!

30  help with bernat baby blanket!!!! edit.. pattern included! in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by twisted5whispers on: January 06, 2008 08:26:59 AM
i found this really cute pattern for a beautiful baby blanket on the back of a label for some baby yarn, and i want to make it for my aunt. but i am so confused! it says...

with RS of first motif facing join to left top corner of 1st motif as follows: ch 3, Ss in 4th ch of corner ch of 1st motif. ch 3, 2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts. Ss in 3rd dc on side edge of 1st motif. 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in ss. ch 3, ss in 4th of next chorner of 1st motif. ch 3, 1 dc in same ss, ss in top of ch 2. fasten off.

i have no idea what RS means, but i tried anyways. i ch 3 and ss in 4th ch of corner ch of 1st motif, and then i ch 3, but i dont know where to do the 2 dc. and then im kinda confused from there....

help?! please! i need to have this blanket done by the end of the week!!

here is the pattern!
