11  Re: Tea Cozy from SnBN! in Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller by melidomi on: February 21, 2005 10:05:03 AM
Ok, here it is, this one I did the 8 in duplicate stitch (I knitted in the first one, and I think I like how the knitted in one turned out better, thought this one is more circular, because I stranded too tightly on the first) and embroidered the "TEA" and triangle as well.  In an airport.  Waiting for the first of two hideously delayed planes.  But hey, when you're working on a Christmas present on the way to your Christmas, delays can be helpful Wink

You can kind of see how I changed the decreases in the pic of the back.

12  "Leftovers" vest from knitty (Winter 04) in Knitting: Completed Projects by melidomi on: January 25, 2005 07:32:34 AM

I'm doing the TKGA Master Knitter program, and for level 2 you're required to knit a vest with picked up stitches around the neck and armholes.  I'm not too crazy about sweater vests, but I think this one turned out pretty ok looking.

In the true 'leftovers' spirit I used 2 yarns from my stash - the dark purple is Cascade Lana d'Oro (50%wool, 50% alpaca, discontinued) the light is Briggs & Little Regal in 'Fundy Fog'.  I modified the pattern a little - I changed the shoulders to a 3 needle bindoff over 6 sts (so I skipped the final row of shaping) and I made the bottom ribbing shorter (because I was afraid I was going to run out of the dark purple yarn)

Tempting has infected my other knitting!

Why crochet cords to tie something closed when you can use RIBBONS!?

Yeah, abinka, I have to say, I found it really depressing how much slower it gets after you add the sleeves.

Oh and Andrea, you know what might be cool?  If you did the sleeves the same color as the body, then the yoke in a different color, and used a ribbon that matched the body.  That way the new color would all be above a certain line (the armpits) and the ribbon would sort of bring you back to the body color.

halfbakedcake - the bows on the sleeves sound so cute!

Here's my level 2 vest - I mostly used the 'leftovers' pattern from the winter 04 knitty, but I made some changes (to the shoulders and shortened the bottom ribbing).  I think it turned out surprisingly ok looking (it is a sweater vest, after all).
I've done at least a first pass on everything except for 1 of the 4 book reviews.  So I need to weave in ends, make sure everything's acceptable, write that last book review, and then mail it off.

15  Re: Completed Spiderweb Capelet in Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller by melidomi on: January 24, 2005 10:32:59 PM
I just had to jump on the bandwagon!  Here's mine:

I did it in Paton's Divine on US 17s (12 3/4mm) and inspired by Lothruin's shell capelet over in the crochet boards I wove a ribbon through the top to close it instead of making the ties and pompoms.  I think it makes for a more formal capelet.  Sorry for the bad picture (and apparently filthy mirror)

At long last, Tempting #2, Son of Tempting - this one is to be a gift for my cousin, the color is more cranberry than it looks, and I'm showing it with not one, but TWO ribbon options!

The black ribbon is 1 1/2" wide, it makes for a fuller bow (silver is about 1")

I did the 8-ball tea cozy.  I changed it a little - I made the decreases at the top mirrored so that it's more like wedges at the top (beach ball style) and I left the cast off stitches unseamed so that the lid handle ball thing pokes through.  But isn't it adorable!?!  I made this and bought the teapot for a housewarming/christmas present.

here it is!  That's me in the sweater and my friend Joel who just successfully defended his PhD next to me.  I was a little late to the party, but I finished it!  I'll try and get a better picture where a) i'm not drunk b) you can see the sweater and c) you can see the shoes!!  But both shoes and sweater are packed now, so you'll just have to wait.

20  Re: knit one below? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by melidomi on: November 26, 2004 08:08:56 AM

Ok, here's a pic I made for a 2-color shaker rib tutorial.  You'll notice that the stitch on the needle is black, and the stitch from the row below is green.  See how the needle is inserted into that green stitch (instead of inserting the needle into the black stitch, the way you normally would) and then do the rest of your knit stitch (wrap the yarn around the needle, pull through, slide it off)

when you slide the stitch off the other needle, you're sliding the top stitch off, and it will collapse onto the knit stitch you've just made, so there will be sort of 2 purls on top of each other on the wrong side (so it will look kinda like a K2tog, without the actual decrease on the WS) and the row below stitch will now be double high.
