1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Sally Doll - Nightmare Before Christmas on: October 14, 2015 05:30:01 PM
Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies! I designed this Sally doll for a friend that is also a big fan of the movie. Let me tell you, this was quite a challenging project! I created custom hand painted fabrics using butcher's paper, and then pieced together the patchwork clothing manually. I hand embroidered all her visible stitching which I think adds a fun tactile element to the doll Smiley

2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Back to the Future Dolls - Doc and Marty on: October 07, 2015 05:52:52 PM
It's been a while since I started a new topic on Craftster, goodness! I somehow missed posting these Back to the Future dolls I made for a swap partner a while back Smiley This was pretty much my first foray into doll making as an adult (I definitely made some sock people filled with beans and stuffing when I was little hahaha) and it turned out to be something I really enjoyed! I bought a base sewing pattern for the body on etsy and modified it substantially to suit each character, designing some clothing and accessories based on the characters!

I present to you Marty McFly and Doc Brown Smiley Also fun fact - the date they travel to in the future for the third movie, Oct. 21/2015, is coming up very soon! Smiley

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / My Little Pony Christmas Stockings! on: January 03, 2013 04:09:38 PM
This Christmas I was inspired to design some new stockings for two of my friends that are hardcore My Little Pony fans. I personally love the show as well and the characters on the reboot My Little Pony Friendship is Magic translate well to my stocking design style. I present you with Applejack and Fluttershy!

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Doctor Who Themed Travel Wallet on: March 29, 2012 09:14:22 PM
I've been a fan of Doctor Who since before the 2005 series started. I love it! I started making a designing a travel wallet pattern for a swap and after seeing my partner's love for The Doctor decided to do it in a DW theme Smiley Everything was stenciled using butcher's paper that I cut out by hand. I even did an Adipose print on the inside! There are a ton of pockets, some clear, and also a zippered pouch that runs along the entire inside of the wallet.

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Junko Mizuno Inspired Corset on: March 24, 2012 09:01:58 AM
Junko Mizuno, an amazing Japanese artist I love, opened her second solo Canadian gallery show last week. I was lucky enough to have my friend ask me to make her a corset to wear while she was working at the gallery and for a burlesque performance later! This design was inspired by Junko's "Fire bird".

I designed and constructed the corset from scratch. All the patterns and graphics on the corset were digitally illustrated by me based directly on Junko's piece. After that I silk screened the flowers on the fabric for the side and back panels and screened the animals. For the animals also the grey shading by hand. I am so proud of how it turned out and Junko herself complimented the corset to me which was the icing on the cake! *squee* (the shape of the corset looks a bit wonky here because I photographed it with the animals completely flat which isn't the natural way it would sit)

6  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Cuts of Meat Dress! on: March 04, 2012 09:13:49 PM
I made this for a swap partner inspired by a tunic we'd both put on our Pinterest wish lists! I used butcher's paper and cut all the graphics by hand. Freehanding the dashed lines was FUN *rocks in corner* lol I was immensely happy with how it turned out though! Yay! Smiley

7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Shadow Box Bras - Pre-Reduction Memories on: February 10, 2012 09:06:31 PM
A year and a half ago I had reduction surgery which you can imagine changed my body drastically. Although it was something I had been thinking about for a while, I couldn't wait any longer at that point due to the negative health effects the ladies were causing me that were close to becoming permanent damage. It was the best decision I ever made and I have never regretted it one minute! To honor my pre-reduction body I decided to frame some of my favorite bras (the ones that were slightly worn out or that didn't fit my friend who I passed all my usable bras off to). Bras at my previous size were insanely expensive so I always considered them like artwork anyways Smiley I finally got to finish these today and thought I would share!

The fabric backgrounds in both was left over from other projects (working through my stash yay!). The bras were all sewn so the back bands were firmly held against the front and the straps were positioned how I wanted. Then I used pins to position them in the frame. I opted for a temporary method just in case I needed to use them for something later.

8  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / "Congratulations you've won!" - invasive ad on here on: February 10, 2012 07:17:28 AM
Anyone else experiencing this? "Congratulations you've won!" blaring over their speakers?

Unfortunately I left the my compu browser open to Craftster last night and the advert was blaring through my speakers at 4am :/ I just now realized it was actually coming from this website when I saw the corresponding ad that accompanies it (top right corner ad space). Anything we can do about it?
9  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Many Hats! - Kaps for Kendall on: February 08, 2012 12:05:59 PM
While I was visiting my family for Christmas I decided to cannibalize the leftover fleece from the presents I made last year (adult footie pajamas haha) and put it to good use. I had heard about a charity called Kaps for Kendall, which provides hats to kids and adults that have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, and thought this was the perfect thing!

My mother had children's hat patterns stockpiled from our childhood so I found a variety of different styles and used as much of the fabric as possible. I honestly don't think I've ever made anything child size before so I think they worked out pretty good Smiley

10  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Monster High Cosplay - Toralei Stripe on: January 25, 2012 11:39:27 AM
This was my latest Monster High themed cosplay! Original costume design based on Monster High series character Toralei Stripe! Entire costume created from scratch, wig custom mod by me, f/x done by me. All the textile graphics were created using hand cut butchers paper and silk screen ink. On the tunic/dress garment this meant each strip was hand cut with wavy edges to match the characters outfit and each stripe took 4-5 coats of ink. It was madness I tell you! lol I followed my progress from concept to finish for a graduate project and you can imagine it took A LOT OF WORK! I'm just posting the finished product here because its WAY too much to put all the process work in one post Smiley
