2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Vintage Halloween Swap Round 2? on: June 08, 2008 12:56:02 AM
I missed last year's round of this swap and I don't want to miss it this year.  Who's interested?  I don't know if it is too early to discuss... but if send outs are in September then now might be a good time to get people interested.  Who wants to organize, co-organize, etc?  Any suggestions to make the second round better than the first?  Let's start talkin', I'm already excited about Halloween!  XD

4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Question about going into art education on: May 29, 2008 12:55:21 AM
I really hope this is on topic enough to fit in here because I really wanted to ask fellow Craftsters about this.  You can help if you are an art teacher, majoring in art education currently, or if you know a lot about this profession.

I'm wanting to start school soon- basically getting my general education classes done at the local community college because it is MUCH more affordable, then transferring somewhere to get a bachelor's degree.  I love kids and I love art, so art education is something that would fit me perfectly.  All my friends and family agree that this is something they can see me doing.

The problem is I let fear get in my way too much...

I fear the cost, but I fear not being able to get a job the most.  I know art education isn't exactly in high demand, but it is something I really want to do.  I don't want to end up spending all this money to get a degree then end up having to work at a grocery store after graduation because I can't find a job.  Do you think I'm just being a bit too paranoid about this?

Craftster has helped show me what truly makes me happy- making things!  Arts and crafts, man!  XD  I want to do something that makes me happy, but I would really appreciate any information you could provide me on the art education profession.  I would really love to hear from those of you who actually do this for a living, know someone in this career, or those of you actually going to school for this right now.

If this isn't on topic enough then one of the mods can delete it, but I hope they leave it up because I really could use some support.  Smiley

Thank you!
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / GHOST WORLD (comic and movie) swap? on: May 01, 2008 01:46:07 AM
I absolutely adore the Ghost World comic and movie.  To me, this would make an awesome swap theme!  I was just wondering how many people would actually be interested in this theme.  Feel free to share any suggestions you might have for a Ghost World swap!  I would love to organize it sometime in the near future.  I was thinking maybe late June.

What do you think?   Grin
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Cookie Tin Swap? on: January 01, 2008 11:15:50 PM
You know those cookie tins that come out around Christmas time that has one packaged cookie in it?  I took a picture of mine:

You know what I am talking about now, right?  There are the Altoid tin swaps, so this one would be similar, but using the round cookie tins.  What do you think?  It could be fun!
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Chocolate Pretzel Mugs! on: December 21, 2007 04:54:35 AM
I work at the front desk of a hotel and I wanted to make something nice for our housekeepers this holiday season.  A while back I came across this- http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=140952.0- and I was inspired to make my own.

Here is one of the finished mugs.
Each mug contained the following:
7 chocolate covered pretzel rods, some with white chocolate zig-zags, all with red, green, and white sprinkles!
1 cocoa cone (makes one cup of cocoa!)
2 candy canes

After putting the mugs together I wrapped them in clear wrapping paper you can get at Big Lots.  Works well!

They make lovely gifts, and the pretzels are easy to make!

I put the pretzels in these cute Christmas treat bags I got at JoAnn's for a dollar.

Here is a finished cocoa cone.  I made my own cone bags out of gallon sized freezer bags you can find at the Dollar Tree.

All the stuff I used!

You can see the whole table better here.

The pretzels!  ... plus mod podge and easy cheese.  I didn't put those on the pretzels, don't worry!   Tongue

Some of the finished pretzels.  Hob-nom-nom.

Comments are greatly appreciated!

8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / quick domo-kun finger puppet on: December 21, 2007 02:56:41 AM
I was bored at work after finishing the stuff I needed to make for a swap I am angeling for.  I had scrap felt pieces, from doing Christmas things, and decided to make this!  Took only a few minutes, so it's not perfect, but still cute!  DOMO-KUN, with green eyes instead of black because I only had green and red beads around.  Comments are greatly appreciated!  I might make a serious attempt at another later on. :3

The last one is a bit blurry but I think it's cute.  He's trying to eat a gingerbread cookie, and I just love the way the picture looks. Cheesy
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Need ideas for flapper girl buttons on: December 06, 2007 12:19:18 AM

I just bought these buttons, thinking I could make something cute with them.  I'm open to any ideas other than clothing.  They're supposed to be flapper girls!  I WAS thinking of doing an updated vintage style purse, but I'm not sure what to go with.

Suggest away!  Post pictures and links if you have them.  Cheesy
10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Everything Purple swap? on: November 20, 2007 02:43:57 AM
I searched the forums and could not find an "everything purple" swap!  I think a lot of you probably love the color purple, so it would make a fun swap!  Anyone interested in participating in a purple swap and/or organizing one?
