11  Sweet Charlotte Baby Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by ritapizza on: August 12, 2009 09:22:37 AM
This baby quilt I finished for my friend's first baby girl who was born in February this year. I sent it to her in Boston a while back but haven't posted about it here yet. It's soft and girly and sewn with love <3 Its made from a charm squares pack of Urban Chiks Sweet line and sashed with some yummy peach solid fabric. And the blue wavy binding turned this quilt from something I liked to something I LOVED!! And I embroidered some birds and her name on the quilt too for a special personal touch. I hope to visit my friend in Boston someday so I can see her little angel enjoy this quilt! Smiley

(Domokun I made for my bf is modeling the quilt~<3)

Here is the best picture I have of the full quilt before I sent it to little miss Charlotte, the adorable newborn recipient~

I love quilt because of the beautiful soft colors and the simplicity of the design with a couple of embroidered embellishments. The simple design let me focus on things like the free motion quilting of roses and leaves and add embroidered birds to add some whimsy and charm. When I quilt, I dont want any wrinkles in the quilt top which could come from my embroidery hoop so thats why I quilted this first then I embroidered the details afterwards since the quilt is already pretty and crinkly from the quilting. I think it worked out nicely because the birds fit in perfectly wtih the flow of the quilting without any distortion of the quilt top Smiley It's about 42" x 42". I talked a bit more about how special the quilt is here.

Some more detail shots~

Thanks for looking~! <3

Aaaaaaaaand I received your tiny house today! It's so darling and cute! I really love all the hand stitched details and the beautiful flowers and the roof of fabric leaves~~~~ She was inspired by my idea of a fairy house. Isn't it just perfect! I took pictures of it with a tiny bird I had on hand Smiley

And here are some close up shots of my embroidery of dazedllama's bathhouse Smiley

15  Re: Lap Quilts For All Swap- Round 4! CLOSED! in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by ritapizza on: November 21, 2008 10:43:42 AM
Everyone's fabrics are so great! can't wait to make you all some blocks!

Because I can never make up my mind... I may be sending this set of fabrics instead... the solids are the same but the prints are different...

And I realized that "non-traditional" and "contemporary" may mean different things to different people. I just would love my group to be really creative, try different techniques, let the fabrics inspire you, add embroidery or applique or 3D elements (buttons, ribbon, rick rack...) but really anything would be great!

John, I wish I could have your eye for choosing fabrics! I love every set of fabrics you're sending out! the sets with blues in particular Smiley

Gordongirl, I love your selection too! I adore your pastel palette~

Yay! partners! I gotta catch up and sent out some fabric!

Here are the fabrics I'm sending. I'm sending everyone the 3 solids  on the right (Teal, seafoam, and gray. They're really pretty together. I love the teal especially, looks better in person Smiley) and a print from my leftovers from the last swap Cheesy

I would really love contemporary, non-traditional blocks made mostly from the solids with only a bit of the print.
I'll cut these up and send them out tomorrow! I'll get started on making some blocks for myself too.

18  Re: Lap Quilt Swap III: Fall Edition (USA and Canada) GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by ritapizza on: November 11, 2008 01:06:12 PM
I updated my setting idea for my blocks from this swap! Thank you all for such amazing beautiful blocks! You are all so talented and I'm so overjoyed to have made blocks for each other!

I still need to make one more block to replace the one that ajanderson didn't make/send.

I'm quilting each block individually and then stitching them together using the quilt as you go method and here's my progress as of last week~

I'm still trying to convince myself I'm not too busy to join round 4! I really want to because this last round was awesome!

Finally received from demekah! I have bad luck receiving packages from overseas because this one came to me in a destroyed envelope wrapped badly in a plastic bag! Stop opening my packages, post office people! demekah sent me a very cute cupcake set with a cute half apron, pot holder and tote bag filled with cookies and stickers and cute little porcelain dutch shoes! Thanks so much!
