1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / my scarf edge curls but only on ONE side?! on: December 04, 2007 06:05:39 AM
Hi!

I started to knit the Cherry Leaf Scarf from this pattern: http://www.kidsknits.com/free/cherryleaf.htm
After the first pattern repeat, I noticed that one of the edges was curling quite a lot while the other one lies nicely flat.  If I look at the right side from the scarf, the left edge is okay and the right one curls very much towards the wrong side of the scarf. I tried to take a photo, but the curling wasnt visible there
Does someone have any idea what might cause this effect? Oh, and I modified the pattern a bit by adding one knit stitch on each edge, both on right and wrong side rows. Could that be the reason? Actually, I was convinced that a knit stitch at the edge could only help prevent curling, not the opposite  Huh
I was wondering if it could help to purl the edge stitch at the edge which is now curling, instead of knit. But I have no idea if that would have any effect at all. Or should I try to knit those stitches tighter or less tight? Im completely lost, and happy about any advice!  Smiley
2  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Hi there! :) on: November 13, 2007 05:21:23 AM
Here is another long-time lurker who finally wants to get a bit more active. I have known Craftster for quite a while, and it is so inspiring. In fact, I learnt to knit and crochet mainly because I had seen all the great projects on here! Smiley I do some other things from time to time as well, but those two really are my favourite crafts now.
In my "non-crafty life", I'm a languages student from Germany. My real name is Katharina, by the way. I like the version Katherine because it's so versatile, like a mix of French and English. Those are my two main languages at university. And my birthday is in April. I had difficulties deciding on a username and in the end I just picked that one. Cheesy
Well - I'm happy to be a part of this great community now!  Smiley
