12  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Mittens on: October 30, 2011 02:57:05 AM
My 20 month old granddaughter had difficulties getting her thumb in the mittens I made for her,

so I did some redesigning and came up with these:

13  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber & Loom Rooms on: October 30, 2011 12:38:57 AM
(Who says empty nesting is a bad thing?)

There is still some boxes to sort through and furniture to change rooms, but at least there is progress.  The yellow loom room (former fiber room) has been a place that has been used to not only store my fiber, but everything else that we couldn't find a place for it.

Here is how it looked 5 years ago after oldest son moved out & I made it into my fiber room on the Left and what that same corner of the room looks like now for the loom room on the Right:

(The pics on the right were taken at night, the ones on the left taken in the afternoon, thus the color differences!)

Notice the big box in the corner of the first pic on the left and in a different corner in the 2nd pic on the right??  Yup, same box!!  It's my Harrisville-Design T6 loom.  Still not set up.  That will change!

Where the bed is in my loom room now will be where the T6 loom will be set up.  The bed will go into the guest bedroom and the futon from the guest room will go into the loom room making space for the T6.

And yes, there is overflow fiber 'stuff' in the guest room which is also used as storage for (and sometimes Paul)'s Civil War accouterments hidden in the closet, trunks & dresser.

15  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Sp far this week .... on: March 29, 2011 07:56:11 AM
Here we go ...

(I dyed this last week)

I pulled the blue off a blue/white mill end from Sheep Shed

I also dyed this last week. Spun bulky and plyed with purple metallic thread

And all three.

The blue-ish turquoise is some I dyed last week (peacock & turkey hen in background)

And this is wool/mohair that I pulled off the white from blue & white mill ends from Sheep Shed:

Some gratuitous shots of my peacock and turkeys that came up to see what I was doing.

16  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Things I've done the last 2 weeks on: March 04, 2011 08:04:56 PM
I hardly ever get over here to the knitting corner of craftster ... most times you can only find me in the spinning corner.  I've been doing a lot of knitting these last few months, but I'll only bore you with what I've spun/knitted the past two weeks.

Custom order  shawl to match a hat I spun/knitted earlier last year.  I had to start over with hand dyed & natural colored yarns, carded together.  Spun & plyed baby-weight.  The finished yarn was much pinker than the original hat, so I overdyed with walnut.

The small skein in the 2nd photo is the original color of the yarn on top of the finished shawl.

Light brown (walnut husk dyed) socks, woolen spun, 2-ply yarn ... worsted weght.

Yellow/Grey, woolen spun, 2-ply, worsted weight yarn.  grey is natural color, yellow is goldenrod dyed.

I just got in a pound of cotton that I will be carding together with flax, and some with wool so I can get started on some spring/summer items!

17  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Natural (and un-natural) Dyed Rovings on: September 10, 2010 02:24:34 PM
Just a couple rovings I've been working on these last few weeks.

The first is yellow onion dye with vinegar mordant and Faulkland wool:

Which is spinning into this:

Next, the rest of the onion dye with Goldenrod flowers added and alum mordant

And the resulting roving:

Then I punched up the color on a couple of skeins of roving by adding red & orange acid dyes:

On to some acid dyed roving:

"Cabin Fever"

"Flower Power"

"SummerFire"
18  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday 09/10/2010 on: September 09, 2010 04:23:19 PM
Okay, I'm a few hours early in my part of the country, but I know it's 09/10/10 in other parts of the world.

First is some dyed rovings .....

"Cabin Fever"

"Flower Power"

"SummerFire"

This is using yellow onion skins with white vinegar as mordant..  I love the color so much I started spinning it right away:

Which is spinning into this:

You can see the subtle varigations of yellow to peach.  When it is plyed together, the varigations will be less noticible, but when knitted or crocheted, they will come out again.

I'm real excited about this yarn!  I probably have about 6- 8 oz of this dyed up so I'll have a few hanks of finished yarn.

This next is using the rest of the onion skin dye but I added goldrod flowers and alum as a mordant:

And the resulting roving:

Then I punched up the color on a couple of skeins of roving by adding red & orange acid dyes:

19  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / botanical paper??? on: April 30, 2010 11:00:18 PM
I have a local Fiber Arts friend that has been asked to make wedding invitations.  She is very creative and has envisioned the wording and font on a paper that has flowers and/or botanicals in it.

Anyone know where she could get paper like this???

TIA!!
