11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Embroidered and appliqued postcard. Not so P.C. on: June 02, 2008 06:49:46 AM
Thanks, everyone.  I'm glad you all like it (so far).  I was afraid what Emkay said would be true.  I know it's not for everyone.  The fabric is all scraps from a quilt I was making and I chose the subject matter because the black dotted fabric reminded me of a disco or techno and I had lots and lots of flesh colored fabric and it just worked.
12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Embroidered and appliqued postcard. Not so P.C. on: June 01, 2008 06:22:02 PM
I didn't know where to put this.  I made this postcard today for a friend who's got a thing for fetuses.

The back tells a little story about the fetus. It says:  Harold was a club kid, just like his mom.  He didn't last long.  But it's okay.  He went to techno fetus heaven where he keeps the beat alive.

Silly.

I cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than my post card.  Embroidered the words on another piece with a running back stitch, then machine appliqued all the pieces on.  The applique isn't' so hot, but I like the overall effect.  I then used a quilt spray adhesive to attach the postcard to the fabric and stitched around the whole thing with a leather needle.

Kthanxbye!  Hope you like it!
13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Project Runway Patterns Question on: January 25, 2008 07:21:34 PM
Does anyone else find it ironic that Project runway would endorse a line of patterns when the premise of the show is original designs by up and coming designers? Just a thought.

17  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Re: Doc Martin Roller Derby Recon! (5 pics) on: November 28, 2007 06:59:55 PM
So, how did these turn out to skate it?  Honestly, the idea of this really scares me. It seems terribly impracticle and hard to build up your ankle muscles, or pick up your legs for skating.  Also, are they balanced correctly?  So... I'm curious. But they look bad ass. I play derby.

19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Reversible 40's Style Apron, Ready for Thanksgiving! on: November 27, 2007 06:40:37 PM
That is awesome, I've been thinking a lot about aprons myself lately!  I'd like to try a "Friday night" apron, which are apparently more formal aprons with frills everywhere.  I just think that would be hilarious to have.

I love the fabrics you chose - the colours work beautifully together!

OH!  I didn't know there were special fancy aprons for Friday night... hmmmm.... Smiley

For those who care, we, as in Jerry and I, also collect sewing machines.  We have 11 now and want more!  Why do we have to love to collect old and heavy machinery?

And taxidermy.. and playing cards.. and state memoribilia..etcetcetc
