1  Re: Craft with a Fat Quarter Swap Gallery (SO 4/18/11) in The Swap Gallery by Slingmomma on: April 11, 2011 05:58:02 PM
Today I got my amazing FQ package from sloth003!!! I'm so excited to show you guys! She made some awesome items outta the funnest fabrics!

I literally squealed a little bit when I saw the fabric so I was even more excited when I saw what she made with it!!

First up is a picture of it all packaged!

Then there's this super cute clutch!! (I'm so excited to go out next weekend just so I can match my outfit to this!! Its shape fits my cell phone, small wallet and camera with room for lipgloss and such!!) Then a book cover, to hide the covers of the trashy novels I read! Now I can read them at work with no one knowing whats inside lol

Then this awesome pendant! Again so excited to wear it!! And a little needle book with scissors!

And there's also this awesome little bowl (I've had the pattern bookmarked for a while so now I'm excited to have one!) And my very first mug rug!! I'm taking this to work so I can mark my spot on the counter!

Then there's this little cozy for my cell phone but she sent it wrapped around a box of smarties! I'm tempted to keep it as my chocolate bar cozy.... I'm a chocoholic Grin

And last but definitely not least.... my Fat quarters!! The top yellow one is the one she got from Australia! And the other is from Fabricland.... which I have seen there before and have been looking for a reason to buy it.... now I have it!!

Thanks you so much again sloth!!! You did a wonderful job! I hope you like your goodies when you get them!!!

2  Magic Yarn ball of Doom- (A spinners MYB!) in New Swap Theme Ideas by Slingmomma on: April 05, 2011 03:55:54 PM
SO you've seen the Magic Yarn ball swaps.... and there even was a Magic ROVING ball swap once... now its our turn!

The idea of the swap is that you spin up some yarn for your partner then wrap it up just like a normal MYB but here's the catch! Everything in the ball is spinning related. SO dyes, rovings, little bits of unusual fibres (firestar, silks, angelina etc), spindles, curly locks, labels, even threads, beads and other little things you can use to spin or dye with! The possibilities are endless!

All levels of spinners would be welcome, and there will even be a question of who you would prefer to be paired with in case you are new and want to swap with someone else who is new to spinning!

Now the only questions are how much yarn should be swapped (I was thinking 2-4 oz.?) and who wants in on the fun!

I can organize as soon as there's enough interest and everyone is ready!

I LOVE that bowl and the embroidery is awesome!

I received from sweety28303 on Thursday and got an awesome package! I'm sorry for the delay in pictures but I have had internet issues for about a week now.... but its all fixed now!

Here's the pretty shawl and matching hat she made me

It's so thick and warm! I love it!

An awesome crochet cabled scarf

Its so thick! I wore it today and it was the perfect thickness and perfect length! (and also the perfect addition to my scarf collection Grin )

Some treats

All of them are dark chocolate...mmmm so good, the Raisinets are AMAZING!

And not pictured is a colouring book and crayons for my son.... he LOVES to colour so they were used immediately before the pictures were taken! He literally has the whole colouring book coloured already! If I can get a chance, I will post some pictures of what he coloured!

Thanks so much again! I really love it all.... even if a few items didn't make it in the box Wink

4  Re: Fridge Magnet (4 for 4) Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Slingmomma on: March 11, 2011 01:35:23 PM
That peacock magnet is  very pretty - my mom would flip for that!   And I love the little toast - so cute!!

My partner should have gotten her goodies yesterday and hopefully mine will get here today!!  Excited to see everything!!

I got it today!!! Crazy Canada Post and their silly ways lol

Here's the magnets that were part of the swap:

A super cute scarf magnet, a cross stitch frog, Amy Butler fabric, and the cutest orange triptych seen up close here:

Then we (our group of 3) decided to swap extras:

My name in scrabble tiles! (I'm excited about this because of my spelling I can never find my name on anything!) Another froggy magnet and the cutest little fishies... look at their grins:

They are so cute... and the magnets are crazy strong for being so tiny!

Some Gerber daisies, and an awesome saying... "All Stressed out, Need someone to choke!" I may take this to work and put it on the fridge in the lunch room!

And lastly the cute little card!

Thanks so much whats_her_name I love it all! You really did your stalking well!

Well I'm a little behind on commenting on the gallery but I have a love for so many things that have been posted! My son has been really sick so I haven't had time to comment very much, if at all in a little while!

I did however get my package from deadbathducky yesterday!!! She sent me a wonderful package that I love!!

Here's everything laid out after opening!.... and yes kitty would leave us alone while we opened it up! I don't know what it is about this package but he is really obsessed with this one and the box for some reason!

Some stickers for my son! He immediately put them in his sticker book! It really brightened his day after all the crappy things he's been dealing with!

The coolest candles/torches and frog stickers!! I LOVE frogs so these are awesome!

This is probably one of my favourite things... mostly because I love scarves! I really want to know how you made this! I have some yarn that would look lovely turned into this! (again kitty's feet trying to get my new scarf!)

The coolest fuzzy scarf, some fun charms and a delicious smelling chocolate bar! It's so cherry I could smell it as soon as I opened the package!

A super cute Australian towel! Some yummy soap (what flavour? it smells sooooo good!) and some Chinese new year decorations and bracelet!

And my other top fave, a Russian doll book! This thing is so cute! I love it! here's some shots of the other "pages"

And the fabric that everything was packaged in! I have so many ideas for it all!!

Thanks so much again deadbathducky! You did a wonderful job on my package! I hope when you get yours, you will love it as much as I love mine!

6  Re: January 2011 Birthday Swap - Discussion and Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Slingmomma on: February 18, 2011 04:06:12 PM
sunspotted... I think its funny how going north of me it takes a package a week yet I can send something overseas and it can take 3 days! It does not make any sense! I just hope it arrives safely and doesn't get snowy or wet on its way!

Here's some of my own pics of me wearing my new cuff bracelet!! Not nearly as pro as Retro's pics but it is my arm Grin

I love love love the colours and size of it!! I especially love the beading on it!

And because I am greedy... I had this cuff wisted for quite a while but I got one that is almost an exact as the one on my wist from littlebluegirl in the 10 minute swap... well I love it so much that I wanted another Grin SO I was pretty pumped when I opened it up! And to show off my cuff bracelet love here is 2 shots of them together!

Oh and its really hard to take a pic of both hands by yourself on a self timer... that's why its blurry  Roll Eyes

And my most fave part about this bracelet is this:

Her little tag!!

Thanks so much again!! I can't wait for a day off of work to wear it out to show it off!!

7  Table Runner and Centrepiece of Love! in Valentine's Day by Slingmomma on: February 03, 2011 02:07:32 PM
Here's my entry! I hadn't intended on entering this challenge but it hit me today that my table and seasonal flowers needed something!

I googled heart quilt blocks and settled with this one... haven't really dabbled in quilting so this is really my first post of something quilted!

All of the patterned fabric is fat quarters from Michaels, and the teardrop shaped one is from Fabricland, the rest of it is thrift store finds or given to me by friends! I kinda cheated for the backing and used pre-quilted fabric Roll Eyes Grin

All the flowers are from Michaels and arranged by me and picked out by my son! The vase was even decorated by me for my sisters wedding this past summer!

Here's my pictures of my entry!

Full shot!

Some closeup shots! I quilted around each heart and then did 2 seperate outlines!

The backing! You can kind of see the outline of the hearts!

My flower arrangement!

And the arrangement with the table runner!

So what do ya think! I put the whole thing together today! It went a lot smoother than I was thinking... even if the bias tape isn't perfect I love it, and hope you do too!

8  Re: Rapunzel Yarn Swap Gallery!! in The Swap Gallery by Slingmomma on: February 03, 2011 01:53:39 PM
Alrighty... so for the delay, here are the pictures of my scarf! There is still a little bit of the rinse away stuff left so you can see my stitching... when I get board one day I will pick the rest of that stuff out!

Side 1!

Side 2!

And some close ups of the ends... which I intend to tidy up the fringe a little bit to make it look a little cleaner!

It shrunk a little bit so I will have to use a shawl pin to keep it around my neck, which I am totally ok with because this thing is so incredibly thick its going to be so warm!

Thanks to all my lovely partners!! Whatcha think of it!?

From Thenutmeg200:

I'm hoping to get my scarf pinned together tonight and sewn tomorrow most likely!! I love all my fibers! They all will look so great together!

Also there seems to be some interest in another round?! So once this swap is close to done, we can toss that idea around!

Details of swap:  This swap was organized so everyone can get something crafty for their birthday!  Please read the guidelines carefully.

1. This swap is list style, like the Ongoing Wishlist Swap.  However, it is NOT chain style. You can choose any birthday Craftsters list that is posted, rather than only being able to pick from the last one posted like in the OWS.

2. This is a medium item swap. A medium item is defined as a craft or recon, etc that takes you two hours to complete OR $20 worth of store bought items. (If bought from a thrift store, estimate what it would have cost new.) However, you may also substitute a few small items for a medium.

3. If your birthday is in swap's current month, you can post your birthday wish list for this month. To do that, you must first PM me with the swap questionnaire filled out and wait for approval. While you're waiting, be sure to post in the discussion/gallery thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=371791.0

4. Once you have been approved, you may post your list of things that you would like to receive. This is the format for your lists: First post your location and a short bio of yourself, then a list of crafted items you would like, then craft supplies (if any) and lastly you can put a few extras that arent crafted, things like candy or tea. Remember, the more items on your list, the more likely you are to be chosen. The minimum of items to post is five.  Also including your wists, etsy favorites, etc. is a good way for people to get the idea of your likes and style.  If you have any allergies please type them in red in your bio section. Please see "Tips to Creating a Good List" below.

5. Please post lists only in this thread. Discussion can be done here in the combined discussion/gallery thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=371791.0  Please be sure to post here so that you can be part of the discussion and receive. You will not be approved until you have posted in the discussion thread.

 6. Every birthday participant must make at least one claim. You may have up to two claims at a time, unless you are an FOC or a first time swapper, and then you can claim again once your items are received (not when you mail out). New swappers may only have one outstanding claim; they may claim again after their first claim is received. FOC's may have 3 outstanding claims at a time. Claims need to be made from the "crafted" and "craft supplies" sections of a person's list. The "extras" are just that--extra items you may want to throw in if you are feeling generous, but claims cannot be solely extras. Keep it crafty :-) (I'm asking that if you are sending mostly supplies, that you craft a little something for the bday babe, even if it's a handmade card.)

7. You may get claimed more than once, but your minimum amount to claim is one.  It is possible you may not get claimed at all. In this case you will not be provided a swap angel; angels are only if you get flaked on. However I do my best to make sure everyone gets claimed by keeping track of how many times each person is claimed. If possible try to pick someone who has been claimed 0 times versus someone who has been claimed 3 times.

8. If it is not your birthday but you would like to send a birthday present out you may do so.  Fill out the non-birthday swapper questionnaire and send it to me for approval.  Birthday swappers who receive a present from a non-birthday swapper must send a snail mail thank you card.  You will not receive feedback until I hear from the other swapper that they have received a thank you card.

9. When you choose to fulfill a birthday wish, PM both the organizer AND the chosen Craftster.  At that time, please request the address from the receiver for where to send it.  After that, you have 2 weeks to get the item out the door.

10. It is super important for everyone to keep good communication.  It is REQUIRED that you PM me when you've sent and of course, don't forget the DC#.  It is REQUIRED that when you receive, you PM me and publicly announce in the gallery (even if you don't have pictures).  If you do not send the appropriate pms you will receive poor communication feedback."

11. When one of your items is chosen, please cross it out so that it is easier for others to see what has been chosen. (It wouldn't hurt to thank the person at this time either.)

12. If you are sending late you must PM me by your send-out date.  If your send-out date comes and goes and you dont PM me, you will receive poor communication feedback.  It should not be my job to hunt you down and find out what is going on.

13. *New Rule* If you are flaked on in this swap you will receive an angel, but only in the amount of packages to which you also sent out. For instance, if you send out 2 packages, and are claimed for 3 packages but are flaked on once, you will not receive an angel because you already received 2 packages, which is equal to what you sent. If you send 1 package and are claimed for 1 package and you are flaked on, you will receive 1 angel.

Please make sure to put February Birthday Swap or something equivalent in the subject line on all communications. The most important thing to me is communication. Please PM me when you send and receive, and please reply to my PM's to you in a timely manner.

If you format your PMs like this:
Format for PMs:

Proper label:
"February Bday Swap" and either "Sign-up," "Claim," "Sent," "Received," or "Question"

When sending sent and received pm's include the send-by date, listed in the second post of the main thread, your user name, their user name and the item. Just copy and past the info from the second post if you want!:

Send by January 14
kaz814 to Troublet -- pretty purse

Outstanding claims allowed:
FOCs: 3 at a time
First time swappers: 1 at a time
Everyone else: 2 at a time

TIPS TO CREATING A GOOD LIST
It seems that every month there is someone whose list languishes for a while. I want everyone to get picked so here are some tips for a well-round list:

--Make sure your items are actually mediums and smalls. Quilts are not mediums. Large painted portraits are not mediums. Hand knit sweaters are not mediums. This isnt to say that you cant have any large items on your list (some generous soul may have the time and the inclination to choose one of those!), but the majority of the list should be smaller items
--Listing A surprise plus a well filled out Craftster profile and a link to your wists (with a decent amount of items on it) is always helpful in getting chosen
--Make sure to post a variety of crafting techniques. If you list appliqud t-shirts in five various themes and count that as your required five items, that is more like one item for someone to choose, not five. Having various crafting methods (sewn, knit, crocheted, paper crafted, jewelry, etc.) is going to make it easier for people to choose you.
--Check out other lists in past Bday swaps and the Ongoing Wishlist Swap for ideas for things you never knew you wanted!

If you want to SIGN UP TO POST YOUR BIRTHDAY LIST:
