1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / What to Embroider? on: March 02, 2010 04:11:28 PM
Hey, ya'll, this is my first time posting in the Needlework section. I'm a semi-new embroider-er. I don't embroider very often, but I'm still in high school, so I need to fit it in between school work 'n all.

That being said, this year, I'm a senior (I dunno if I should say it or not but eh, this is a crafting website) and I'm taking this "Medical Occupations" vocational ed class. While I'm new to the whole voc ed thing (my classmates and I get a bus ride to the bigger school in town for voc ed), so is my teacher. The last year teacher of Med Occ (as its called) retired and so I think ya'll know where I'm headed. I wanted to give her something nifty maybe for her room to remind her of how cool we are and my mind shifted towards embroidery. The only problem with embroidering is what to make? I don't wanna give her a pillow, that's kinda random. I was hoping maybe for some suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

My teacher is actually a used-to-be RN turned teacher. I could only think of a coffee-cozy but that doesn't seem very personal to me. I figure something cool for her room would be appreciated.

Anyway, thanks!
2  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Deliah*s dress... on: December 24, 2009 06:46:41 PM
Okaaaaaay so I got the latest Deliah's magazine in the mail and I found this really nice dress I want.

I don't usually order from them but I do gotta admit, I really want this dress. The only problem... of course... is the price. Its $39.50 (without taxes and shipping).

So... instead of spending MORE money I don't have.... my thinking is to save up my money and progressively work towards getting the dress made from Goodwill and other nearby thrift store fabrics. But... how do you guys suggest I go about doing it?

My thinking is to take a grey tanktop and other various shirts for the bottom and middle band. But I've never done this kinda thing before.

Help is much appreciated!
3  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Condom Wrappers... on: July 24, 2009 05:33:23 AM
Okay, recently, my boyfriend and I have ummm.... replenished our stock... we went to Meijers and bought some big packages... Embarrassed But when we took them out to look at them, I loved the packaging on some of them.

I really want to reuse them (of course washing them and all first), although I'm not entirely sure how I should. The only idea I had was to make change purses out of them. Once my sister comes back (probably in a few days) I can post pictures of the wrappers if anyone wants.

Thanx!!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Dress + Stitch Q = HELP!! (plz) on: November 23, 2007 03:33:28 PM
Howdy, I'm a noob diy-er but I'm looking forward to jumping right into it.

When you make a dress, do you add a lining to it, so the wear-er isn't feeling semi-scratchy fabric (I'm not using cotton as you can tell)?

I'm making a gift for my boyfriend's mom for Christmas and I don't want to make it uncomfortable.

Never mind about the stitch question, I figured it out ^_^.

Oh and I'm making a shirt for my boyfriend's sister, so... should I get her arm measurement or should I use mine? She generally wears the same size as I do.

5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Buying a Sewing Machine on: November 20, 2007 01:06:12 PM
I just got paid and I've been wanting to buy a sewing machine for recons and other clothing projects, come to find out, I don't know how to look for one. Can you help me find an adequate, inexpensive sewing machine?? (I'd be buying it online so searching amazon.com would be a good idea)
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Stuffed Kitty for my best friend. on: November 01, 2007 01:12:15 PM
I made this kitty made of an old tshirt (and a white shirt for the ears) for her birthday.

Although she's turning 21, every girl loves stuffed animals (or at least they do in MY mind).http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t41/pixichick1212/th_Picture325.jpg

First one is of the back, the second of the front. It was my first Stuffed animal project.
