1  COOKING / Dessert / The BEST cake EVER! on: June 15, 2010 03:17:42 PM
Grin I made this cake for my daughters grade 8 graduation.

My girl

My girl's best friend and fellow grad

We homeschooled the girls for the past two years for different reasons, so to ensure they didn't miss out on their special night, we hosted an intimate graduation at our house. The girls love thier sweets...so, this cake was born! I assumed most people would simply scrape off their candies...however.. .Much to my surprise, even the grandparents ate all their candy treats!

The cake is two 9x13's ( one cherry chip Emily's fav, and one chocolate...Ronnie's Fav!)
Plain icing
And covered with yummy goodies! ( sour jelly beans, gumballs, gummy worms, butterflies and rattlesnakes          (around the pictures), runts, sour blueberries, zingy zaps, chocolates, mini jubejubes, jelly belly's and more! ( and we almost ran out!!!)
The letters white chocolate, molds and free hand piping for the girls names and hearts.

2  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Batting HELP! on: May 03, 2009 12:30:19 PM
I am making  a memory quilt for my brother in law and his family who are moving to the Philippines.
I am in need of some advice as to what batting if any I should use.
They are a tropic climate, so it has to be as light as possible. And of course easy cleaning. So I am looking at a lot of light earth tone cottons.

But the batting?  Huh
Any one have any advice?  Huh
3  COOKING / Dessert / Last years cakes on: January 19, 2008 04:16:06 PM
Well the time has come to make this years round of birthday cakes. We have a birthday in Jan, Feb, and March!
So I was looking for some inspiration and came across last years pictures so I thought I would try to inspire someone else as well!

This one is my "little buddy's" second birthday cake. He just loves giraffes! The spots are made out of melted chocolate cooled and cut into diamonds

This is my little bugaboo's first birthday cake. We went through three batches of icing to get the colors right for this one!  We were up REALLY late for this cake.... but he is worth it Cheesy
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / A New Technique on: January 19, 2008 04:08:49 PM
This is also my first thread!
It uses four fabrics sandwiched together and cut into strips. Then used to outline or create different effects.
It is great for making a simple panel pop!

I made this one for a dear friend of ours. They are expecting their first baby boy in the next two weeks!

I used a solid blue, baby foot print fabric for the backing and binding. I finished this panel in three hours from first cut to the final stitch.
