21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / A bunch of dresses =] And LOTS of pics! on: June 16, 2009 08:02:28 AM
A couple of months ago, my bf offered to take pictures of my un photographed dresses. And I couldn't refuse =] BUT I made myself a promise...that I would finish three dresses before letting him take any pictures. Well, two months later, I finally got around to taking the pics... I had made the dresses in a manner of weeks, but med issues kept me from posing. With no further ado, my dresses!

Dress #1 (made my my old curtains...that I made, too, lol) It was meant to be a mock up for a dress I wanted to make, but fell in love with it. I LOVE the sweetheart neckline and the way it fits juuuuust right =]

Dress # 2 ... My Easter dress =] Funny story about this dress... The day before Easter, I was looking for a dress, and found a super cute dress at Macy's on SALE! =D BUUTTT =[ The zipper was dead. I asked for a discount on it because of the zipper, but they didn't agree with me. So, 15 min before Joannes closes, my wonderful bf, who took me dress shopping in the first place, took me to pick out some fabric. I stayed up till 3 AM making this dress!
Anyways, it's a cotton floral (tiny, tiny flowers) fully lined with -sigh- Egyptian cotton.
I used a pattern for this one, but I can't remember which. If someone wants to know, though, I'll dig it up =]

Yes, that's my baby by my feet =]

Dress #3 Made out of some weirdly stiff-ish cotton fabric. I am quite pleased with this one. I used the same pattern as I did with my Easter dress, but altered it for the halter. Took maybe 2 hours =] And it's NOT see-though =]

Wish I had a better pic of the bodice... But you'll have to do with this:

Dress #4 My NEW little black dress made of stretch satin.. I made this to wear to a theatre performance the day OF the performance. And it was a hair too small =[ So I sewed in these super skinny strips of fabric on both sides. I actually like it better like this than before =] Everyone loved it =]

Dress #5 I've already posted this dress on craftster, but the pics weren't 'artistic enough', so I'm giving you guys some better ones, lol. Made this dress out of some remnant fabric... It probably took less than 30 min to make, measuring, cutting, and all. It's my bfs favorite =]

Welll... That's all! Comments?
22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Mayhem outfit on: June 07, 2009 05:06:46 PM
My favorite band EVER, Marilyn Manson, will be performing at Mayhem Fest... So, of course, I want to go! But...I have no idea what to wear. I like pink, and bows, and pretty, frilly things. I'm very girly. But I know that if I go dressed up the way I normally do, I will get a lot of crap from the other people there. How can I support my fav band without looking too goth and still keeping my girly style?

ANY help is appreciated =]
23  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / A perfect lbd? on: May 02, 2009 12:40:01 AM
Recently, one of my guy friends asked me to wear my LBD to a party of his to make his ex jealous. So I pulled out my pretty LBD ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=253357.msg2821805#msg2821805 ) and realized that I couldn't get it to even go over my bum! I have put on about 15 lbs, which is good, actually, but now my favorite dress doesn't fit me. I let it out and it fits realllllly tight over my bum and barely over my chest without a bra. So. It will not do.

I just ordered 3 yards of stretch satin online (3 yrds...just in case I mess up) and was wondering if anyone could give me a few tips on sewing it. I hate working with cheap satins, because they fray like crazy. Will this be the same?

Also, I would looooove you guys forever if you could help me find a cute, simple design, preferably straight (like a pencil skirt) and right at the knees.
24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / help! problems with uniquely you dressform! >.> on: April 19, 2009 03:10:50 PM
I followed the fitting directions perfectly...every last detail. It took a combined effort between my father and I to get the cover on the dummy... We finally got it on after about an hour and a half. We were both tired, sweaty, and...disappointed. The form is something like a foot too small now! I don't understand =[ I did everything the directions said and it turned out waayyyyy too small. I really don't want to deal with taking the cover off and guessing how much I need to let it out.

Should I just pad it? What do you suggest? Has anyone else had a similar problem?
25  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / tell me that you don't want something like this... on: April 19, 2009 12:14:52 AM
I was looking up unique beds, and stumbled across this nifty site that had all sorts of creative space-saving beds. Some of them were...weird and ugly, while others were awesome. I took one look at this sucker and KNEW I couldn't possibly live my life without one.

It looks simple enough. A base, a mattress, and a heavy cushion. But this brings up the question, could I find/ create a mattress that bendable? Would it be a pain to turn back into a chair? Is it truly practical?

Either way, I MUST have it! And making it would be the most incredibly awesome nonclothing creation I could ever achieve! Please, help me out on this one. =}
26  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / One hour dress on: April 14, 2009 11:59:51 PM
So, I made an Easter dress, any my boyfriend offered to take pictures of me in it out at his house (he lives out in the country). Of course, the idea of a photo shoot sounded great! BUT I didn't want to have one with only one new article of clothing. I told myself that when I have three new articles of clothing, I'm allowed to go out on the photo shoot =D

Long story short, I made this dress in about an hour, and I couldn't wait till the photo shoot to post it =] Tell me what you think!

Soon, hopefully, I'll have better pics up
27  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / help with plaid on: March 12, 2009 11:57:57 PM
I ordered some wool plaid for a winter coat...but the plaid print was a lot bigger than I expected. My bf says it messes up the design I had in mind, but I'm not sure. Are their any definite rules of how NOT to use plaid? Any certain styles that make plaid ridiculous?
28  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / What to do with this fabric?? on: March 04, 2009 07:31:28 PM
I just made dress ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=295185.0 ) and have about  yrds of it left over. It wrinkles and frays like crazy, so I don't think I want to make another dress or skirt. What else could I make out of it? And what kind of top would look good with this kind of fabric?
29  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / preeeeeeety silver wrap dress on: March 03, 2009 09:57:39 PM
I've been itching to made myself a silver wrap dress for a really long time. I kept telling my bf, I'm going to make a silk wrap dress SO pretty, I'll have nowhere to wear it. Well, for church, we went on a temple trip, and I HAD to have a new dress. Unfortunately, silk was above my budget, so I chose a pretty satin. Which frayed horribly and wrinkled as soon as it touched my skin. Oh well. It had beautiful shape, flowed nicely, and worked quite well for what I wanted. It was meant to be a rough draft for the real thing. I used pattern Butterick 5030 which I will NOT be using again, now that I know how the pattern is pieced together.
Everyone complimented me on it, and couldn't believe that I made it the day before!
On to the pictures...
I'm really not that dwarfish, btw.

30  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Quick NYE Dress =D on: January 03, 2009 12:40:45 AM
So, a friend invited me to a party. Of course, I had to have something new and pretty to wear... So, the day before NYE, I rummaged through my fabric bins, and found some pretty lame light blue fabric. Which was pretty see-threw. As I kept looking through the fabric, though, I found this sheer, nylon stretch fabric...about 9 yrds of it! I layered the nylon over the lame, so that it wasn't see-threw, but you could still see the sparkles from the lame (even though you can't really tell in the pics) I whipped this little number up in a couple hours.

And a close-up

Everyone liked it, and a couple of people asked me where I bought it. It was comfy and fun to dance in =] But the best part is that my guy friend couldn't stop staring and telling me how pretty I looked =]
