1  Re: Miyazaki All Year 'Round Craft Along in Craftalongs by loireag on: August 08, 2009 06:20:58 PM
I forgot to come back and post the miyazaki swap stuff when I finally finished it. I'm pretty proud of this one, but he was a huge pain in the butt to make. Howl was very vain and pushy and it took a lot of work to get everything up to his standards. He actually demanded to be made over again when I was halfway done with his body the first time because he didn't like his shoes and said "his hips were too narrow". He was right about the hips but the shoes were perfectly fine. Vain!

Here is the rest of the swap stuff photos. There was a painted totoro box and a little white totoro and some other bits and bobs.

2  Cyclops Kitten in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by loireag on: July 05, 2009 03:48:51 PM
I finished this little girl about a week ago. I'd had plans to make a one eyed kitten for a long time but took forever to get around to it. This was free formed (knitted) as I went along so there is no pattern and you can't tell from the way she is posed but the shaping on it is kinda wonky.  Still came out pretty cute and I used a really soft yarn so she is all cuddly and soft.
Her name is Una

She's fairly small about 7" from nose to the tip of her tail and I didn't take any pictures but she has little pink pads embroidered on her feet. If I do another I'm going to remember to put some wire in so its easier to pose. And possibly use a different yarn this stuff was a major pain.

The eye is 12mm and hand painted.

3  Happy monster and some sort of thing. in Needlework: Completed Projects by loireag on: July 03, 2009 06:00:22 PM
I'm new to embroidery, but it's quickly turning into a favorite craft. These are both based on sketches I did a year or two ago. They're pretty rough but I thought they came out ok for first attempts.
Happy monster and his little red balloon.

And whatever he is supposed to be.

Thought I'd share since it's all the awesome stuff here on Craftster that got me interested in embroidery to begin with.  Cheesy

4  Jareth in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by loireag on: May 27, 2009 09:21:20 PM
I was in a swap on another site that just finished and for it I got to make up a package based on the movie Labyrinth. Which I was deliriously happy about because it gave me a reason to make this.
The Goblin King in all his glory.

The other fun thing I made was some of the eye lichen.

This specimen was pried from a decaying section of wall near the northern edge of the Bog of Eternal Stench. The particular wall lies downwind and is seldom visited, for obvious reasons, especially by the repair-crew goblins.

There has been a longstanding belief that the eye lichen only grows on the southern sides of walls and that at sundown all the lichen in the Labyrinth collectively looks towards the castle. Regional variations on the belief state the lichen looks towards the exit, and occasionally, lunchward. This is clearly false and has led many travelers farther astray. Of course it’s their own fault for believing such a stupid thing when clearly the lichen never looks collectively at anything.

Here's the rest of the Labyrinth photos on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/27986578@N04/sets/72157617064703397/ there's lots more of Jareth.  Wink

I had such a blast making this stuff. I had to share.

ETA There's no pattern at the moment. I took some notes as I worked but I left a lot out, I'm planning to make a Jareth for my very own eventually so hopefully I'll flesh out the notes then and try and put them into a format that other people could actually read (my brain works in weird ways). But it's not gonna happen soon. Too much other stuff to work on.

I got some Miyazaki stuff finished lately that I thought would be fun to share. And I've got several more things in the works. Some stuff for an off-craftster studio ghibli swap that's still a secret right now. And then a Noh Face and the Radish Spirit both in the beginning stages. Here's some of the finished stuff.

And one of the Radish Spirit because I really like him even though he is not done yet.

6  LOL WUT aka Biting Pear in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by loireag on: March 23, 2009 05:07:44 PM
This is based on a painting by Ursula Vernon called The Biting Pear of Salamanca. And was mostly an experiment to see if I could make the design work. He is about five inches tall without counting the stem.

His tongue can stick out of his mouth a bit or be pushed back so his teeth can close. I didn't think to take pics of that. Pretty happy with him though he is really lopsided in person. Wink

7  GIR with room for cupcakes! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by loireag on: March 23, 2009 12:08:40 AM
This was a xmas gift for my father. He started out fairly simple and then I had the bright idea to "make room for the cupcake!" So GIR got a hollow head and a cupcake to keep in it.
Here he is with his cupcake

and keepin' it in his head

I've got more photos on my flickr page. Including some with his rubber piggie. I suck at posting things to craftster so adding any more is too hard/time consuming.

8  Go Team Venture! in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by loireag on: August 13, 2008 07:36:06 PM

This is Dean Venture.  He's is the second doll I've done from the Venture Bros cartoon. The first was Dr. Orpheus but he's not totally finished, he doesn't have hair yet. Hoping to make the entire cast of main characters from the show, and maybe a few of the more interesting minor characters Cheesy Dean stands about 8 1/2 inches tall.
