1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / 1960s Mary Quant-inspired "mod" dress and accessories on: November 04, 2008 04:26:01 PM
My fourth grade daughter had to dress in 1960s theme for school. She wasn't that impressed with the hippie style (thank goodness, as I knew that is what most people would do) so we researched a bit online and she just fell in love with Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton's mod look. I am a product of the 60s and I loved that look, too! So, I sketched an outfit, a jumper and a long sleeved close fitting t shirt, with tights and go-go boots.

So, here is my interpretation. I didn't use patterns, but had plenty of inspiration from the many pictures I found online. I don't have any in progress pictures because I didn't see this until after Halloween. I got the red fabric for $1.50/yd at JoAnn, the white pleather was about $6/yd. I had the clear vinyl. We bought t shirt, tights and shoes. I made the jumper, belt, hat and tote bag. The belt was a real challenge, as I couldn't think of a buckle that would scream 60s. It needed to be round and plastic. Finally, at the 11th hour I came up with making it from Sculpey, which proved to be perfect. My sister found the flat white patent and clear vinyl shoes for $10! They were huge, but we stuffed them with cotton!! ;0)

I have made every costume for her since she was a baby. Each year we have a ton of fun doing it!! Last year the Geisha I made for her came in 1st prize in a hometown contest.

Thanks for looking!!

I was trolling around and found a site that showed a tutorial that somehow put a bunch of regular plastic bags together, then a tote was made from the resulting fabric...please help me! Was it on Craftster?!

Thanks in advance!
