21  COOKING / Dessert / Where the wild things are cake on: March 19, 2011 12:16:27 AM
I got so excited when they announced that we were having a cake auction at our church. I immediately went online and was highly inspired by this cake: http://cococakecupcakes.blogspot.com/2009/04/where-wild-things-are-cake.html that I had to make one of my own!
This is my version, though I do admit to copying the first one a lot, but only because it is awesome!

I took photos of it literally as soon as I put down the icing bag, so please excuse the mess! I did clean it up before it was auctioned off!

Side view to show how high it was. I used 2 x 20" chocolate cakes (more specifically, 'Dana's chocolate cake' from Destitute Gourmet) and put delicious dark chocolate ganache between the layers. mmm...

I had a lot of fun making this, and am looking forward to the next opportunity to make something similar. Smiley
22  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Tshirt to Baby Tshirt recon on: February 08, 2011 09:03:12 PM
Ive had this tshirt for years and never really knew what I wanted to do with it until now!

Showing the snaps on one side of the neckline

I used one of his existing tshirts to make a pattern and although some of the sewing is a little shoddy (sewing + teething baby = shoddy sewing) I'm pretty happy with it!
23  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Baby romper/boyleg onesie on: February 06, 2011 02:47:43 PM
Having a tall baby is a bit of a pain as he has outgrown nearly all of his onesies/rompers in such a short space of time! I used one of his almost-too-small ones as a guide.
This is my first attempt at making a romper/boyleg onesie- I hardly ever make clothes and havent had much experience sewing stretch fabric so there are definitely things I'll do differently next time!

and action shot

It really is too big for now, but that's ok as he seems to be growing so fast!!
